Festivals Fading?

  • Summer festivals are struggling to stay relevant, yet there are more of them than ever. That apparent contradiction plays out across North America every year, never more so than in Chicago, in many ways the unofficial capital of the summer-festival season.

[...] But the slowing sales should prompt a reconsideration of how Lollapalooza is structured. When the festival expanded to four days three years ago for its 25th anniversary, the lineups started to stretch even thinner than in the past and the watered-down talent has taken a toll.
Or maybe concert-goers are tired of being mugged and relieved of their property when leaving the festivals and word has finally trickled out from the Rahm-bargoed news media?

Yet another sign that people are avoiding this city at all costs. Who wants to take their family anywhere there are herds of roving savages surrounding the people who are spending money looking for their next victim. Makes people very uncomfortable knowing their running around unchecked and unsupervised.

The music is fading. EDM/Dub step/Trap is dead. No big rock bands. Rap is lamer than ever. I'm not sure what kids listen to these days.

There is a Great White Shark off the coast of Long Island, and I wouldn't get in the water off those beaches this weekend.

Just like I won't go into downtown Chicago, where a different kind of predator is always looking for vulnerable prey. Not just Lollapalooza and not just in the Summer.

Remember parents let their children go here for a lot of these festivals especially lollapalooza, and when the vacationers the visitors come here and watch the news, listen to the people in actually know what is going on who would let their child come here or their loved one? Crime is a big thing it is on the national level national news, when the president of the United States of America speaks out about Chicago and says what about Chicago pretty much constantly it says a lot. What also says a lot is the president will never come here, when our former mayor the ballerina constantly call Chicago a no Trump zone, It says a lot. Crime is welcome here, illegals are welcome here criminals are welcome here, but the president of United States is not welcome here something is wrong with that and you notice the president has not even come back here. We are in a boat that is taking on water without federal support or very little federal support, this is due to the elected structure that has a total disregard for law-enforcement and the rule of law.

You mean Rob-a-palooza? Where niave suburban teens go with their expensive iPhones and cash but come home empty handed? The theft at that festival is outrageous. And, of course, unreported, so it happens every year to a new group of kids.

Take a look at Naperville also the city council voted to accept more section 8,crime has risen last year they had the rapper pitbull at the ribfest, now this year will be the last ribfest ever in naperville invite the shit in and people will leave.

Say your thinking about coming to Chicago and you say lets look up things in Chicago, and you scour the net, scour the news and you say "no sorry, crime out of control, police are neutralized," and of course not wanting to be victimized you go wheresoever else. we are on a rudderless ship just waiting for that final iceberg where we scurry until we sink completely.

Chicago is toast. Why anyone would even consider attending one of the many city festivals is beyond me. They're nothing more than drunken lowlives aimlessly wandering the broken streets and sidewalks of XYZ neighborhood. The urban predators are no doubt salivating at the thought of attacking these clueless drunkards. I'm sure by summer you'll have the added bonus of trying to dodge needles and feces strewn all over the sidewalks. Knowing the average Chicagoan, they'll think it's some type of progressive art that adds to the excitement of the city.

As the residential millennial I can tell you lot of these acts kinda suck now. They pop off a single - go viral - and then just suck live. None of these promoters want to pay $ to deal with the bullshit that comes with some of these dudes so they try going after these guys who used to be good to fill the gap but their primes are long past them too. The mega festival will go away soon as doing Molly and watching Lill Xan (yes it's a real rapper you dinosaurs Google it) just won't cut it anymore.

If they don’t have the money, how do they spend so much? Go downtown, River North, boys town. Drinks are expensive and the bars are packed
Neighborhood feats are $10 admission and they are packed

funny coincidence. im at the glorious lake house in quiet peaceful wisconsin. just was talking to a nice college student waitress at my usual dinner spot. she is taking an intern spot with a fortune 500 in milwaukee for the summer. we were talking about the cool 3rd ward by the lake she is moving to and all the nitelife options. for her age group the lake front 3rd ward lofts are the bomb. anyway the subject of shitcago came up, i told her about the downtown wildings and shetold me this long story about how lame lalapalooza has become. it was a big deal for wisc college kids to take the train here for years. theyve never heard about the wildings and kids being kids probably wouldnt think it could happen to them anyway. but she did know her music. for what everything cost here, she listed a dozen acts from like the 70s and 80 s that would play here. best was she asked me if i knew who j-lo was. she scrunched up her face and said nobody listens to her any more.hahahahaha. sounded like my old ass lined up the acts lol. world class city my ass.kids go to music festivals. they pay a ton of money to hear cutting edge music they like. sounds more like eddie burke lined up the acts. so there you have it. 200 miles north of shitcago a 19 year old waitress knows chicago and lala sux. good luck with the fucking money losing stupid hood festivals. bring back baby huey and the baby sitters thats more chicagos speed.

Yeah, but the former "illegal" president of the United States (having been born in a foreign country) went on some social media site (facebook? twitter? grinder? I'm not exactly sure) to congratulate our new mayor Lori Groot. Thanks Barrack Hussein O'Bama. Now can you please just go away. Your third term was rejected by middle-America when they sent Hillary packing. You, Hillary, Michelle are all irrelevant! Oh, and by the way, the courts are going to side with "Friends of the Park", just like they did when George Lucas tried to build a hideous monument to himself here, and they are going to reject your hideous monument to yourself.

I’ve always advocated the public use of guillotines to execute those who prey on others. That might prove to be an actual deterrent as opposed to how the death penalty is exercised in America today. Plus, guillotines are energy efficient and don’t contribute to global warming/climate change. They are “green.” Death is instantaneous. Proven technology. What could be better?

In trying to attract a younger audience with the newer acts, they’re pushing out the people who have money to spend on their expensive tickets, who the hell wants to see Ariana Grande other than some creeps and a bunch of tweens? There’s absolutely no one worth dropping that sort of money on to see them at Lolla, they’ve gotten away from their core audience in order to try and get younger kids to be their future patrons
