So the Sun Times has an article up about Lori's new head of security:
- In a break with tradition, Mayor Lori Lightfoot will hire a retired deputy U.S. marshal to run her security detail, with one mayoral aide noting that “it’s a dangerous time in our country.” Police Supt. Eddie Johnson on Monday told the Chicago Sun-Times, “We don’t really comment on executive protection, but at the end of the day the mayor has to be comfortable with her detail.”
Johnson said he believes Lightfoot has confidence in the police. “This is her police department now,” he said.
The retired deputy marshal is James M. Smith, a managing member of a private security company called Silver Star Protection. Smith declined comment Monday.
And buried at the end of the Sun Times article where no one would think to read that far, this little tidbit:
- In 2016, Smith was mentioned in a Sun-Times story about former law-enforcement officials with ties to the medical-marijuana industry.

Back in '96 or '97, when OEMC was created, the P/O's (who got D-2 pay)and were "Dispatchers" were transferred there. Some were assigned there, but a lot were put in Districts. Then they abolished the job and all were back to D-1 pay. They grieved the reduction in pay, and won. They kept the D-2 pay for the rest of their careers, no matter where they were assigned. So there is a precedent for the Security Specialists to grieve when their jobs are abolished. They may keep that D-3 pay pushing a Beat car.
Police reform needs to happen fast and hard. Hopefully they drag these contract negotiations out for years.

Not to be too critical but you go from Cook County Jail guard and to being a United States Marshal, then you are running a security company with a huge contract with the marijuana dispensaries and growers. A 9:48 p.m. Facebook post on 2nd Precinct Minneapolis Crime Watch page said that University of Minnesota (U of M) police were requesting assistance from Minneapolis police (MPD) and Metro Transit police for “a group of 8-10 males chasing people with hammers” and that some people were injured. A Facebook post a minute later on Minneapolis Scanner page said that the three police departments were responding to “multiple [911] calls” about “10-12 Somali teen males armed with hammers chasing people,” also with “several injuries reported.” Both Facebook pages regularly post summaries of police scanner audio.”

Why? That's what the crooked politicians are hoping for. More tax money to waste. Colorado, Washington and Oregon are seeing legalizing recreational pot is not the panacea they thought it would be. And look at the shithole cities in those states. The most crooked state, most crooked city, sure just pass it already, give them more to use on pork spending and stick in their own pockets. Look at the problems they have had with the number of growers and excess product in Oregon. Growers licenses for companies wanting to cash in on recreational pot, another political tool? And the negatives, well those aren't often printed by the liberal press, but they do exist. Illinois can't balance a budget, have more crooks in government than anyplace but the continent of Africa. But you'd trust the sleazy governor and his ilk to set it up and run it right?

I for one could care less if she has her own detail, why in the hell should the detail personnel receive Sgt. or higher pay to guard a politician. Before we complain about losing this to a retired Marshal we should be asking ourselves why they need that pay that is pensionable when they retire. Our pensions are severely underfunded and this is what we are concerned with. They have a clout gig and they get free money that was not even earned after they retire.
SS marketed itself heavily to dispensaries when IL’s medical cannabis program rolled out, no idea how many stores actually ended up using them though due to cost. Quite a few places did what another poster mentioned, hired retired LE. He’s also right about the pay, it ranges 20-25/ hr. Always interesting to connect the dots with who knows who. Who is this "Colorado" that states utter nonsense? I've lived here since the 90s. If you believe that nonsense, I have a crime free neighborhood to sell you on the west side. How is Pot costing the taxpayers? I'm all ears. We have Dispensaries that sponsor roads, you have tolls. We have tourists flocking here to pay huge taxes on Pot. Our population has TRIPLED since 1990 with no end in sight. They can't build enough houses to keep up. My 4000 sq ft house on two acres would cost me $2400 a year in taxes, but since I am a disabled veteran, I pay $1200. Nice huh? Well, it gets better, $100,00 increase in 8 years. Can you say that? Only if you find a hidden compartment with cash in it in your flooded basement.
Do you know who is in those lines at the Medical Dispensaries? Mostly, the elderly. That's right. Retirees that have arthritis pain or whatever. They avoid the Doctor and the copays, avoid messing with their insurance, buy some pot, and go home and garden. You should try it. We may be stoners, but every single one of us that left Chicago is smarter than you, Bud.
My parents lost half the value of their home on the Southside, I took that as my cue to leave in the 80s. I'm sure it will turn around and get better any day now,right?
The Fed’s don’t like “local police.” They never have and they never will. They think we’re poorly trained, poorly supervised and act unprofessionally. Hmmm. Maybe they're to something. Regardless she can have her private security. She can’t stand the sight of CPD and doesn’t trust us we’ll funny because the same goes for most of us. And by the way putting everyone in uniform and cancelling everybody’s days off might slow crime a bit but it sure the hell wont keep these people from killing each other. And in the long run you’re going to burn coppers out and will get even less productivity from them than your getting now. But as a former Fed they don’t understand this. They don’t work weekends or holidays. In fact they get “snow days” and “ work from home” days. Its not even close what Police Officers deal with on a day to day basis compared to what’s expected from federal agencies.
Enough fantasies here, All these politicians lie through their teeth! Some are puppets controlled by the Destroyers.
