Suicide by SWAT
- Chicago police officers shot and killed an armed man Wednesday after he barricaded himself at home near the University of Chicago and fired shots outside. A man called police about 10:15 a.m. to report that his son, who had bipolar disorder, was armed and distraught at a home in the 1300 block of East 61st Street in Woodlawn, Chicago Police Lt. [...] said at a news conference. He asked for police to help.
Officers arrived and negotiated with 22-year-old Myles Frazier, who was barricaded inside, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. During negotiations, he fired at least five gunshots from inside the home, Valdez said. Some of those shots went outside.
A SWAT team was called to the scene and entered the home after Frazier refused to come out after at least 45 minutes of negotiating, Valdez said. Two officers shot him during an “armed confrontation” inside the residence, Valdez said.
And predictably, guess who knows better than the police?
- Someone who lives a few houses down from the shooting said he didn’t known Frazier, but questioned if police could have waited longer to enter the home, or used less lethal means.
He said that sending people into the home is what escalated the standoff and made it fatal. “They could’ve thrown a robot into the home or something,” he said. “Who cares if a robot gets hurt?”
Well thank goodness the unnamed citizen was there to tell everyone how a mentally ill offender throwing lead around the neighborhood, with a previous charges for UUW, VOOP and THREE different Domestic Battery charges should be handled.

Who was that genius, a graduate student or a professor from the U of C? It always amazed me how many people feel it is ok to advise the police on how to do their job or how they want to tell you a story of a traffic encounter they had with the police years before. Now just think if someone came up to a crew digging up the street and told them how they should be doing their job. I am sure that person would end up in the hole bruised & beaten. Would they tell a dentist how to do his job, not with that drill in his hand! How about a restaurant worker, not unless you want your food tainted. I would advise a media reporter though. Safely cared for in institutions, I certainly wouldn't trust the state of Illinois to do it right. You remember the abuse in the old mental hospitals. From an article from last year, "More than 100 psychiatric hospitals have remained fully accredited by the nation’s major hospital watchdog despite serious safety violations that include lapses linked to the death, abuse or sexual assault of patients, a database investigation by The Wall Street Journal has found". The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)says that people who are in a mental health crisis are more likely to encounter police officers than get actual medical help. That's certainly true. As far as Bipolar 1, a number of these people really struggle with life daily, the meds can make them sick or have other side effects. So they stop taking the meds and then often lose it altogether. It's very frustrating for them and the docs are simply pill pushers. The book trained only "counselors" haven't a real clue, they placate with their condescending tripe. I feel very sorry for people dealing with it, it's a tough road. Up to 50 percent of BP-1 patients attempt suicide at one time or another. And while some seem to do OK on the meds, others tire of the number of side effects and try it without drugs. That never works out well for them either. Meds don't work the same on everyone and there have been no real improvements with regard to meds for BP-1 or 2 or for anxiety, depression or PTSD.
I'm not questioning what SWAT did but I do wonder if things would have been done differently if it had been some celebrity type. That too seems the Chicago Way.

I agree! I’ve never thrown a robot before, but if it’s a new unit opening, sign me up boys! I’ll throw the shit out some robots. But I do find it funny that apparently citizens of Chicago think we have robots. Sometimes the wheels fall off our cars, but these people think we have robots. And even if we did have robots, what would this hypothetical robot do in this scenario? How does a robot help in the way this person wanted it to help? I only know of one police robot incident, and it was in Dallas. That little robot, may it Rest In Peace, told the officers “beep boop sit back boys and girls beep beep, I’ll lay down my life for you guys, beep, and blow this mother fucker up, beep boop”. And god bless that little hunk of metal with a bomb strapped to its ass, it completed its mission and blew that bag of dicks to pieces. The police should have sent a robot into the house to shoot the asshole.
It's kinda like the old TV show NYPD Blue. On a high risk entry,

SWAT would be BEHIND him in full battle gear, and long guns.
I'd bust out laughing, and my wife would ask 'what's so funny'.
