You Think It's Bad Now?

  • Last fall, a City Council Committee shot down the most extreme of four pending proposals for civilian police review after one aldermen claimed the proposal was drafted to appease people who are “hateful of the police.” On May 29, proponents of the so-called Civilian Police Accountability Council will try again, emboldened by support from 15 aldermen in a City Council that has taken a sharp turn to the left.

Ald. Carlos Ramirez-Rosa (35th), chairman of the new Socialist Caucus, held a City Hall news conference Tuesday to announce plans to re-introduce a CPAC ordinance that still may be going nowhere, even after the changing of the guard at City Hall.
Get a load of these proposals:
  • Their plan, championed by the Chicago Alliance Against Racist & Political Repression, calls for electing one representative from each of the city’s 22 police districts. They would serve four-year terms with a dedicated staff and an annual salary matching what aldermen are paid.

The elected panel would have an annual budget of $30 million and be empowered to: hire and fire Chicago’s police superintendent; establish police policy; investigate police shootings and other allegations of excessive force and police abuse; negotiate a police contract and pass judgment on police discipline.
It's like Portland 2.0 combined with Baltimore's ongoing death spiral.

His plan also calls for abolishing COPA. I guess he expects the elected reps and their pals, I mean staff, will investigate police shootings.

He also wants to get rid of the Police Board, so I guess there will be no review or appeal of any discipline rulings they come up with.

I heard Lightfoot wants to punish the Department by also ending the 55 and out with insurance agreement. Anyone who applies for this job now and anyone with less than five years on that isn’t looking elsewhere to work should both require a psychiatric evaluation. It doesn’t make sense to me that people would want a job where benefits are diminished and non-existent coupled with the disrespect we receive from both the public and our political employers. Also, can people please stop all chases? Nothing good is coming from them and only worse things will be coming from them with our current elected officials.

Negotiate police contracts? I realize coppers don’t normally vote, but I bet we can find a way to get 12 pro police representatives elected. How about another week of furlough and 14% over four years?

That would be quite an impressive panel. They’d not only be policy makers, but also professional investigators, detectives, experts in use of force, contract negotiators, and disciplinarians. Wow. That is quite an array of duties. I’m sure they’ll be proficient in all of them.

This is a absolutely absurd idea and deadly for the future of the CPD. Already very low numbers are applying for the job and large numbers are fleeing the CPD for other departments. Of course residency is the main reason for this, but coupled with everything else, the job is very unattractive. First, how much more reform, monitoring and restricting can they due? Aren’t we maxed out yet? Second, how much more money does the city want to waste? Chicago was just ranked the number one city drowning in debt. Chicago needs to cut the waste on unnecessary things. Like this dumb idea. Hopefully Lightfoot will see how bad this will be.

Main lesson I remembered from the Military is someone will fuck up well before I ever do. It’s a damn shame, but some people just have to learn the hard way. Unfortunately we’ve hit that mark folks..... Let it Happen.

Ramirez-Rosa is, tragically, my alderman. He's nuts. He's also a deadbeat who abandoned his office and hasn't paid the long overdue - nearly one hundred thousand dollars - rent on it.

No surprise that he thinks 300 million can materialize out of thin air to fund his idiotic whims. So what if the city is broke? Print more money, you peasants!

He also plans to reroute Milwaukee Avenue traffic at Logan Boulevard down SIDE STREETS to make the square a walking-only zone and, hey, that'll only cost 100 million.

Your tax dollars at work, guys.

I don't want Social Justice Warriors to dictate Policy. Emotions have no place in determination of Public Safety. Keep those people on Facebook, where they belong.

Let HeyJackass and statisticians determine which group is doing all the killin' and how to quash. Chicago doesn't run well on feel-good Leaders, times call for skull-crackers. NYC got cleaned-up, we can learn from their methods.

You heard right 55 and out will be gone, because they are losing 'experienced," coppers who will do nothing at all, in this anti-police anti-taxpayer climate of corruption that is so prevalent here. This moron is proposing estimated of 30 million plus to prop up their friends and family to get these lucrative "we hate the police," positions. So not only now do we have the inexperienced of the copa cabana crew we will have the "ghetto folks/peoples," deciding the fate of the police!

If your the police and do anything more than protect the homeland, your partners, the thin blue line.police families your on your own. The ghetto demands bullshit, take your time when it is over here is your Rd number, smile wave drive away advise warrants. Exactly! If they want to destroy Chicago and have crime go unchecked then put this plan in place. No one wants this job already. There’s already plenty of reform in place along with checks and balances. If Lightfoot wants to stop people from moving out of Chicago, then she’ll say “no way! The CPD is already doing much better” Remove residency, fix the pension, and settle the contract. Morale will skyrocket and you will get a ton of police applicants from all over America.

5/15/2019 11:17:00 AM

I truely believe Lightfoot doesn’t have her mind set on destroying the CPD. She’s very intelligent and was a US Attorney. I believe she’s had it with the 30-50 years of corruption in Chicago and cook county and will not be part of it. This should be her focus. It’s the aldermen and Kim Fixx that will be her biggest problem. She stated several times that she’s wants to keep people from moving out of Chicago. Destroying the CPD will not help. I’m guessing she will be pleased with the changes already in place and see the complaint and law suit numbers have drastically dropped. She needs to attract a bigger and better applicant pool to the CPD. A better educated applicant. Get rid of residency, raise the pay and require a bachelors degree. This will make a big difference.

If she got rid of residency some will certainly leave, she wouldn't want to take a chance on how many. Why let overtaxed people out of the cage when the city is crying about needing more money. Raise the pay? Look at the money problems the city has, can't see any substantial pay raises happening. Bachelors Degree required? Her community wouldn't like that, that's not restorative justice, and it would be racist because there was once slavery. Why would smart people want to work for CPD today? Federal oversight that's a nice advertisement. And unprofessional clouted goofs, flakes and whores running the show. The same types will be promoted, the protected classes. And don't forget Lighterfeet is a progressive, a "triple threat" as she calls herself. She loves illegals and all the progressive way.
