Police Week Begins

  • Four fallen Chicago Police Department officers were honored in Washington, D.C. Sunday as National Police Week begins.

CPD Commander Paul Bauer and Officers Samuel Jimenez, Eduardo Marmolejo and Conrad Gary all died in the line of duty in 2018.

The families of the fallen officers can now see the names of their loved ones on the National Police Officers Memorial wall.

Several events were held for the families to commemorate the lives of the officers, including a wreath laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery's Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
If you could, take time out of your week to remember the fallen in your own way.

Just before I came on this job Kilroy and Hauser were shot and killed while on duty in 025. It made me rethink if this is what I really wanted to do. I decided to take the job and it was the best decision I made. The chicago police department will live forever. The officers who made the ultimate sacrifice will be remembered forever.

I am not a Police Officer, but I support you brave men and women whole heartedly. Thanks for everything you do to try to make this crappy city just a little bit less crappy. You are fought at every corner and turn, by the social miscreants and unfortunately by the totally unqualified states attorney and the Court System. I don't know how you can get up the motivation to come to work every day, but you do. I thank you for your courage and commitment to doing what is right. Stay safe and keep your heads on a swivel.

It was raining during Jimenez’s funeral and countless other funerals officers attended. It’s Police Week, no time to worry about some dress blue uniform that can be found in abundance at any uniform store. Special Ed is a major buffoon, no doubt, but at least he’s honoring the nation’s fallen officers. So stop posting like a tard it’s not helping your cause to bash another tard.

To all my Blue Brothers and Sisters. Stay Safe.

We will never forget the unselfish sacrifices made by the men and women of the Department. This is a special week for us and those that value our efforts to serve and protect the citizens of Chicago. Protecting them from murder and mayhem.

Now we wait and watch as to who are our supporters and who are our detractors. No lip service and phony words of concern. We see through Rahm the serial liar. Lorie where do you stand? Are you hollow and empty like Rahm or will you speak and support your Police Department .

Trust must be earned. We wait and watch.

For the Exempts and those with clout it was an all expense paid vacation. Who do you think was in all those unmarked vehicles leaving headquarters.

One who has been there twice and paid his way both times.

I observed it, too. An unadorned, simple, black umbrella, a rain cover for his police hat and a proper fitting, black, uniform raincoat would have made him look much more together and a bit smarter. Wearing the uniform long coat under a raincoat would have made his attire totally proper. I think lieutenant's and above have a long coat as part of their official uniform, but you mentioned him being too stupid or too lazy to have proper attire for the weather conditions. There could be another reason. How about just plain old too cheap? I mean, he only makes what, over $200K a year including a car and benefits. He might figure it would be a waste of money to buy a rain cover, long coat and a raincoat. Come September, he most likely will no longer need them for work, but the umbrella could come in handy while living as a civilian.

I had the pleasure of meeting Conrad Gary's wife and baby recently at a St Pats event. I did not know who she was and when she told me it was a bit awkward at first but she handled it well. She is such a delightful young lady and their child is beautiful. My heart aches for them and their family. I will always keep them and the other families in my prayers!

I would like to mention all the Officers who took their own life. On duty or not. Let's not forget about them too. To all officers who even for a moment thought it may be the only solution, remember: We need you. Your work makes sense. We feel safe knowing you are working out there. Regardless of what some think or say.
Thank you..

I served in combat in Vietnam before joining the CPD. My point is I have been involved in many deadly situations both in Nam and here.

I was working on Zone 10 and responded when the 2 officers were murdered in the garage behind Nordica. May they RIP.
I could not believe how calm the 25th District sgt. spoke when he came on the air with the emergency 10-1 with 2 officers shot dead. Many, maybe even most officers would be shouting and screaming with a garbled radio transmission. He asked for all notifications including the Supt., the chaplain and the K9 dogs as if his blood was ice water .

God bless the CPD. Never underestimate a disturbance call.

Speaking about wearing the star around your neck, I’m here in Washington for the Memorial and everyone’s doing it. Which I don’t mind provided you are wearing it at some Police related function. But I see guys miles away from the events doing things not connected to the Memorial and they have their stars out on display around their necks. As an example, I’m sitting in an outdoor cafe when I see a copper and his wife/girlfriend riding a scooter with the star on a chain around his neck. Talk about a nerd.
