- Growing tension between Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot and the Fraternal Order of Police were on display at Wednesday's City Council meeting.
After calling to order her second city council meeting, it did not take long for Mayor Lightfoot to prove that she will not stand for what she considers "unfair criticism."
"What you failed to do mayor is you failed to take and ask the FOP for our input during the public comment part of the meeting, said Patrick Murray, the 1st Vice President of the Fraternal Order of Police, as he criticized the mayor for leaving the police union out of discussions on reform.
"Mr. Murray, any time that the FOP wants to do anything other than obstruct and object to reform I'd be more than willing to meet with you," Lightfoot replied.
So standing up for the rights of the membership and maintaining minimal protections for due process are now obstruction for communists progressives.
We don't know how much clearer it can be - we are not going to get anything like a fair shake in any negotiations with the City. Arbitration is the only option.

2) What is the city proposing to cut as far as protections? Can someone summarize what each side has been fighting for so far?

1) Arbitration is ALWAYS a gamble. We have some end poorly for us and others not so bad, it just depends on the particular ruling. The arbitrator is the sole decider after hearing arguments from the Lodge and the City negotiators.
2) Nobody can summarize what is being fought for because there is usually a confidentiality provision about the negotiations in order to keep either side from negotiating in the media for public support.
Next time FOP sends a representative to the counsel meeting please send someone who can talk without looking at a card and stopping half way thru a sentence looking at the card. Murray is a nice guy but please FOP it was embarrassing listening to him trying to get a point across to a mayor who is challenging everyone to make her delusional points. Consider the advantage that CPD rank and file could then join a REAL union (PBPA, ICOPS, etc.) once the FOP is decertified. Risky, but remember, the new union starts negotiations based on the old contract, not from zero.
The mayor doesn't want to work with us on that contract? The fop should file a lawsuit to lift residency. I want to see her reaction to that

Yes you can lose in binding arbitration. It’s a trade off for not being able to strike. The realities are such that both sides have picks and are able to reject arbitrators . Arbitrators want to be continued to be selected, that is getting paid. Consequently arbitrators work very hard not to be identified as pro or anti labor or management. They tend to issue rulings that please no one or pleases, to a certain degree, both sides. It’s hard to say how arbitrator will rule. With little Laurie crying such a big deficit in the city budget and having to raise taxes she’s setting the stage that the city can’t afford raises. The Fop should introduce evidence or at least attempt to bring up the mayor slush fund not counted in the budget,I.e. the TIF fund, Fop probably won’t. In the current climate nationwide against police,etc. will an arbitrator make a ruling that diminishes your rights and protections. In the past the trade offs for significant economic improvements was offset by the city giving non monetary concessions such as your current protections. The city now pretends that it’s the fop blocking police reforms in disciplinary procedures, when it was the city that granted these protections. The fop should be arguing strongly that police officers involved in shootings have the same rights as federal law enforcement....when involved in a shooting talk to no one for 72 hours. No detective no boss no civilian review people, no one until your attorney makes you available 72 hours later. It’s a crap shoot going to arbitration, given how corrupt the city continues to be and will be under little Laurie, they will probably buy off an arbitrator with promises of future business or a judgeship or the like.

How long will the fop have to go by without a contract till the fop can take self-help. this is called strake. The city will not bargain any other way and will not fulfill the contract unless there are prison time in it for them.
wouldnt hire a real labor attorney to run the union. For what they pay the president you could get a legit law school grad (not John Marshall junior college) to be the president and the rest of the board would still be responsible for all the decision making.

The attack is on ! Election time is coming and hey it’s time to get the knives out . Do you really care if someone works in the office is retired if he works hard for the membership ? Pat Murray was forcibly retired due to his age and this would not have been an issue if there was no age limit . He has worked to make the legal defense for each individual officer better . They can’t attack his work ethic or what he has accomplished so they have to find something else . Would you rather have someone who attack’s the mayor , ensures your rights are protected or someone who doesn’t care ? He called out the Mayor and she revealed her utter disdain for the police . He saved us from spending more money on costly negotiations . May be old but he knows what he’s doing !!!!

No need to argue with an ET sgt. Simply get out of the car and look through the home shiny smooth surfaces. No door handles or cabinet knobs. Most of the time they've touched a costume jewelry box like one from Carson's as an example that's glossy. A glossy shoe box etc. Glass, checkbook boxes, wood jewelry boxes with high gloss finish other examples. Don't assume you're going to be denied educate yourself on the best surfaces to lift prints. Tiffany boxes are not good or anything with a texture. Take a better look around and don't assume you'll be denied.

The only PDs in Illinoid who has residency requirements is Rosemont and CPD. Put that on the arbitration. It can be changed.
Aren't Sgts or Lts already in arbitration?
Other than retro-pay, there is NO reason for us to go into arbitration against such an overtly hostile administration. Current contract STAYS in place until new one is ratified. And it is a good contract currently in.......
Wait......wait and see what CPS gets, wait and see what the CPD supervisors get......don't think there is a downside to waiting with how we see LL currently treating CPD.

He’s right. Only binding on the FOP. once the ruling comes in it has to be approved by the city council. If the city council doesn’t approve the arbitration, the contract is out. That’s the reason it’s only binding for the FOP

I suggested somebody to them with crisis communications experience who used to handle PR for well-known pension consulting firm and also worked on labor and employment law issues. Very supportive of police for years. Not sure what happened.
Cipher how much money you will lose by going 7 years early and you just might decide to hang around.
Leaving with 22 and a day is leaving 7 years early X 2.5% per year = 17.5%. 75% max pension - 17.5% loss from going early = 57.5% pension.
Now conservatively wipe out 1/2 of the 57.5% pension for health insurance until you reach 65 years of age and hopefully you have planned adequately and can obtain the affordable end of Medicare plus a supplemental policy.
57.5% pension - 28.75% health insurance = 28.75% pension.
Will you be able to live on roughly 29% of your current yearly earnings?
Unless you have a thriving side business or you have the connect for another job after leaving the CPD or you have some wonderful investments that are scheduled to provide income for your retirement, you best arrange for a perennial cot at the Pacific Garden Mission. Just saying.

What the CPS gets has nothing to do with us, absolutely nothing. Only 2 issues that that will affect us with the supervisors are pay and health insurance. Did we get quarterlys and 3/4 hour a day?

Wrong........only items talked about previously in negotiation can be considered by the arbitrator. Nothing new can be introduced. If you put off arbitration, the chances of city hall introducing new items regarding our protections is a given.
Declare impasse and go to arbitration.
We should of been in arbitration already! Do not wait another 2-3 years for the same result. Our taxes, fees and expenses have been going up we earned and we need a raise NOW!
