"Hemorrhaging" is a Good Word
One of those articles we mean to bring to everyone's attention, but falls by the wayside during the week:
- CHICAGO — It’s known here as The Exodus.
People are leaving Illinois in droves. Republicans blame the state’s high taxes and its unfunded pension liability, which tops $130 billion. Democrats believe it’s the state’s lack of investment in education and infrastructure.
One thing is certain: Illinois’ population has declined by 157,000 residents over the past five years, making it one of only two states — West Virginia is the other — to lose people over the past decade.
The article relies on a lot of tired old saw, but hits a few other points that aren't brought up nearly enough.
We're just filling space here prior to the holiday week.

Come the 2020 U.S. decennial census, Houston will replace Chicago as the nation's third most populous city.
And Texas saw more than 360,000 move in last year alone...nearly a thousand a day. The dems are the stupidest people on the planet.
To everyone (mostly police officers) who read this blog, please do NOT fill out your census form in 2020. The state of Illinois has a 25 million dollar budget allocated for the 2020 census. They are so worried that words going to get out about the mass exodus they have all hands on deck to try to fudge thoes numbers. This is our opportunity to not participate and watch them squirm when the real estimates come out about how this state is loosing residents. I’m telling all illegals I come across when I’m on jobs that Trump and ICE are paying attention to the census forms and they will be collecting data. Anything to shed light on this crisis I’m willing to do I’m sick and tired of the lying and deception by these politicians. ☠️
Sort of secret meeting at the West Loop Chamber of Commerce. With Lori taking away the aldermen's veto power, the liberal West Loopers were outraged at the thought of new public housing being built anywhere near the West Loop. They even informally petitioned getting rid of the section 8 housing across from the academy.
Speaking of the academy. The big push to get the new one built in Garfield Park is because the West Loop wants to turn the old academy into a new local high school. The liberals who preach everyone is equal shit a couple bricks when they found out that their kids would have to go to Wells. Some of them didn't know what Wells was and it had to be whispered into their ears. The looks on their faces was priceless. I didn't tell them I send my kids to private school. These transplants don't want to pay for that. It would take away from their Starbucks and their Mixed Berry Flavored Beer money.
State and City are being run into the ground by morons who could not balance their own check book. I have a young child but can’t wait until I can move out someday. May come really soon - will miss the State that I remember when I was a young kid, but this place is getting fucked up fast!!!!
Financial problems of the State and City are never simply filler. There should be a blog on SCC every week to discuss. Super important as the financials are getting fucked up fast. Tribune stopped allowing comments and I can’t find anywhere else to discuss the libtards running the State and City into the shitter.
When you move to another state, don’t try to change things that work for them. Respect their communities and lifestyle and you’ll get a warm welcome. If you try to bring Illinois or California to a conservative state, you won’t gain a damn thing.
The People's Republic of Illinois is full blown stuck on stupid. The socialist Democrats in Illinois are going to tax us to death. No reason to stay when you have Lightloaf that hates the police and is incompetent, Jabba the Hutt that only knows 1 word: TAX. and one of the highest gas taxes, property taxes and sales taxes in the country. Thanks goodness the Socialist Democrats have everything under control...LMFAO!
Add my family of six to that list. We will be moving to another state early next year. The Democrats are lying and hiding their heads in the sand and ignoring the truth. We’re leaving because of the high taxes, corruption, pro criminal mentality and free handouts to the deadbeats and thugs. Illinois is anti-honest citizen and working class. No one is leaving because of “infrastructure and education.” They’re all leaving for the same reasons we are. Our neighbor left 3 days ago to another state too.
Did you watch the two Democrat debates. If any of those dangerous nuts became POTUS, moving out of Illinois would be a moot point. The question then would be, why are so many people moving out of the United States.
Are housing prices still going up or have they started the decline?
Notice who are leaving?
It isn't the homeless bums and the chronic unemployed.
They are the young and the successful, and will be successful in a new city and a new state.
Stop the hemorrhaging by stopping the spending and get back to the basics by paying whats owed. How much is this weekend of festing costing the city? Fests for everything. What's the draw for today? Manpower that could be put to better use in the killing fields.
Taxes or education... Lol.
Democrats are idiots...
Baby boomers retiring.

I hit 20 years last year. I am now 44 years old. We moved down to Florida and I have a new, non law enforcement job that is Monday - Friday, 8a-4p and I make 144k a year. Great insurance and beautiful house with a nice unground pool and I ground hot tub. Crime is non existent almost in our sub division and I have 7 palm trees on my property. Illinois and Chicago, including all of the people, politicians and even most of the coppers can go blow a big one. There is life after that job and life outside that city. In a few more years bring on the pension and my full time job and we will be rolling even more than we are now. Get out early as possible. I drove a junk car, sent my kids to public school and we were very cheap. We built up a huge nest egg and now we made the move. My kids are in excellent schools down here and the people are great. I laugh at all the coppers driving Benz, bmw and big 50k jeeps and trucks. Enjoy that note and that VRI getting wasted. Now, I’m driving a better car and have a better life. Get out.
Maybe if people voted for something other than the Madigan Crime Syndicate instead of moving, this would be a better place.
Just what was the road tax used for before doubling it?

Is it time to think about selling the house and renting instead?
Lock in the capital gains now, and create options for when the city really goes to sh-t. Look at the Leadership (snicker!) of Lori and the Fifty Alderthieves. Add in the Fine Crime Fighting of Kimmy and Special Ed. Madigan and JB the Hutt in Springfield. More Taxes, fewer services, higher crime.
Remember the stories of block busting in the 1960's?
Detroit demonstrated City Busting in the 1980's.
Illinois will lead the way in State Busting in the Roaring 20's.
Will the last Taxpayer please turn out the lights when they leave?

It is against the law to not fill out the Census.
People have the government they deserve , here in Ill/Chicago the voter just isn't paying attention, Pols lie to your face wrap themselves in the dignity of their office, "the watch dogs" (media) are in reality just lap dogs after all your future in that bis will go nowhere if you don't get access. When is the last time you heard a news person ask any hard questions? If the voters were educated it would put a stake through the heart of the current crop of pols perhaps they should rethink that, infrastructure good idea build a wall around Ill to keep people in
Hey Democrats!
Its about money and taxes, stupid!
Good Bye to Chicago!
They vote for Dems. Taxes skyrocket and the state is ruined.
They move and you ask them why?
“It’s the weather,” they reply.

What part of Florida? Neighborhood? How much are property taxes?
"...I got 20 years last year..."
Can you leap tall buildings in a single bound?
Going to make a move for sure, but have to decide. Florida, Texas, and Arizona will soon be Blue states thanks to the idiot liberals moving there to get away from high taxes, only to elect clowns that will do the same thing there, along with abolishing gun rights. Tennessee seems like the logical choice. Pro police, pro life, pro God, and pro gun. No tax on pensions and a general lower cost of living all around. Beautiful state to live in also.
Kelly Cassidy and her crew will get anything they draft passed and signed by Gov Clown. Watch them go after the guns next. Liberal Democrats are in Ga Ga land right now, because they can turn this state into a liberal utopia. Translation, Police hating, high tax, high crime, Godless shit hole. Poor people south of I 80 have their nuts cut off because of a few counties around Shitghetto. Soon to be a Nation wide show if a democrat gets elected in 2020. And I guarantee you 30% of the Coppers will vote Democratic in 2020. God help us.
People are leaving because Illinois is a welfare state the demorats are giving this state away for the price of a vote.

Sure like to know what expertise you have and why you became the police if you are so qualified to make that kind of money? You should have went to the private sector in the first place
Let democrats stew in their own fecal matter. Life is too short. Escape and enjoy life, brothers, you've earned it. From one thats been there.
Add two more tax paying,law-abiding, civilized people to the list shortly.
The courts threw out the citizenship question on the census form. Being a sanctuary state, Illinois could lead in undocumented population, and gain democratic seats in congress....
Chicago is not dying. Stop with the doom and gloom and look at the big picture.
The middle class is being shrunk and blacks are leaving faster than ever. Immigration has slowed at a tremendous rate.
What's booming is the wealthy, whites, Indians and Asian.
There are mega projects being invested in. These are the people who will not let Chicago die.
In retrospect probably would have been better off with Rahm. Or who the business people wanted, another Daley. Lightfoot is a blip on the radar as most of the projects won't be finished until she's gone.
Stomach these 4 years, we'll be okay in the end.
The number is higher, I see for sale signs everywhere by me and several of my neighbors have already left this year alone.
FLEE!!!!

Why train workers and attract industry when you can mint patronage workers for FREE! FREE! FREE!? You get a tax, and you get a tax, and you get a tax!

You are an idiot. Why would you laugh at other officer because of what they drive. That is their business, not yours. Why not just enjoy your wonderful life in Florida? No you have to theow the jab and no I don’t drive an expensive but believe officer can drive what they want and spend money as the choose
Question is why did you stay in Chicago for 20 years if it’s so bad and your making 144K a year
Yea the pension
The reasons people live in big cities like Chicago are the opportunities that a big city offers: employment, cultural and entertainment. The reasons people LEAVE big cities like Chicago are the problems: crowding, expense (including taxation), crime and the sense that they have little control over what direction city government takes.
Well, obviously, crime is exploding, as is homelessness and taxation. With the city government stuck at full throttle on “restorative justice”, no rational person expects crime to decrease any time soon. And that blind devotion of the city “leaders” to “social justice” is only increasing the average taxpayer’s feeling that the government only sees them as a resource to be plundered, with their tax dollars spent in ways that don’t improve the average taxpayers’ lives.
It’s all a matter of balance - when the pain of living here exceeds the pain of moving, people will move. And Lori, Kimesha and the rest of the “social justice” idiot league are practically bragging about how they’re going to “turn up the heat” on the average taxpayer...
Don’t think the word exodus or hemorrhaging are the right words. Illinois has a population of 12.7 million residents. A loss of 157,000 over 5 years might sound like a lot but in reality it is about 1,25% over 5 years or a 1/4 of 1 percent a year
Illinois is run by the political mob, but look around. Texas is turning blue, Colorado is becoming a cesspool(my cousin just left, said the last 5yrs turned Denver into the new Cali), Nashville is electing progressives, Georgia & SC too. Hell, Florida was votes away from electing an indicted progressive mayor as governor.
Believe me, you are selling the low in IL and buying the high elsewhere. Illinois still has no state tax on pensions, you'd be a fool to move somewhere that will tax that income.
I hate it. I hate this entire mess. Pritzker is a jackass, no doubt. But the plan all along was to somehow dump the pensions elsewhere, and Jumbo looks like the patsy Chicago needs to get that done.
Madigan will sacrifice the state to payoff the city loyalists. They've been hoovering up properties through shell companies since the 90's. These guys are bottom feeders, and we're near bottom.

That’s great! I’m targeting the Florida area too. Got 21 on and almost 50. I wish I could find a job that pays what you’re making. Not having much luck with that. Any tips on where I can send my resume down there? Florida is a very well run state and will only get better with the governor they have now. You made a very smart move. Enjoy!
Just remember when you get that census form JB "Flounder" Pritzger says Illinois will loose money and influence If there is a undercount.

In six years from Year 2018, when you turn 50 years of age, it will be Year 2024. Having left six years early as far as age, you will receive approximately a 35% pension, but it will be calculated in 2018 dollars. What will a 2018 dollar be worth in 2024? Who knows?
Also, you made no mention of healthcare. Do you have healthcare for you and the family through your new job? If not, who knows what you will be paying for healthcare in 2024?
Admittedly, you seem to be doing well, but I am not sure the addition of a 35% pension added to your current income would qualify as rolling in it. In 2024 that 35% might cover a modest car note.
To the guy in Florida...awesome post! I love it! I did the same thing, and feel the same as you. I can't believe how much more happier we are as a family. I left 3 years ago with my pension and combined with the new job, I alone am making over 200 grand! Life is beautiful when you don't have to put up with the B.S. and the haters who think they know bette!
Studies show that each state gets approximately $1800/year/citizen counted in the census. Over the course of the census every person under counted is $18000. By the time I throw in my fuel savings from not shopping due to my new out of state purchases, I will come out way ahead on the new gas tax.
I did the same as the officer that went to Florida. Get out while you can.
Democrats knew what they were doing when they started this global economy bullshit.
Started way back over 50 years ago.
Menial factory labor elimination in the heart of every Chicago neighborhood was disappearing and popping up in the suburbs and now even that is gone, either further out beyond Cook County if not out of state.
People were content to work even if it were for minimum wage and support local businesses.
All the pop up dollar chain stores and even a MacDonalds won’t be employing many for $15 hr.
Forced business evictions, daily code violations, local EPA regulations and of course exercising eminent domain laws out of greed and the development of residential voter colonization.
If company had the money to challenge the city, they were taxed out, if they had enough (donor) money the were spared.
Every former factory industrial site is now either a residential compound or dollar store strip center.
Can’t sell a decrepit, violence prone lot or it’s too contaminated to build upon?
Put a government building on it like a $100 mil Public Safety Academy or $41 mil Maintenance Facility that we don’t need, save nice lots for Section 8 developers.
And besides all the above come the shameless, incompetent, wasteful and expensive educational system that churns out unreliable, public dependent idiots. Oddly, CPS isn’t seeing a decline in registrations or budget but then again they’re not really audited.
Eventually even Indiana, Florida and anywhere else that seems pleasant will be overwhelmed by IL feral draining the gubmint coffers.
The Democrats New Global World Order of Free Stuff is a force that needs to be stamped out.
One more thing that escapes logic is why is there so much trash along the streets and roads in poverty depressed areas.
You would think there would be that having less means throwing away less, or it’s from folks leaving in a hurry.
Most are forced paying $9.50 a month to put garbage IN a can.

I just watched channel 7 news on line and one of the videos was 'city taking precautions to keep pride parade goers safe.' Why have a parade if the attendees may not be safe? The video showed cta trains wrapped in pride flag colors as well as police car. They showed the crosswalks are paved in bricks with the pride colors. I am wondering what all that is costing the taxpayers, no wonder people are leaving the state for getting gouged. Why is so much money allocated to this particular group? Next other groups will want their symbols on trains, buses, police cars and crosswalks. Where does it stop? The other story says so far 47 people have been shot and four are dead. Maybe all that 'partying' money could be used to do something about all this violence.
I retired in 2003. Moved to California. Left because of taxes and the liberal nutjobs. Moved to northern Colorado a couple of years ago. Live in small town of 10,000. It's like living in Mayberry. Very little crime. The cowboys are OK. When I go to the big town nearby to shop, I see a lot of farms, oil rigs and horses. Trump is a god here. Life is good. Hang in there, you do have a future away from Shitcago.

CHICAGO's solution to a hemorrhaging of people:
Increase taxes to pay for a study to determine why its taxpayers are leaving Chicago and Illinois.
Sums it up pretty well. Only thing missing was the State and city debt problems which will insure the Exodus continues no matter what the fools and tools in City Hall and Springfield do. Aqaa
Besides the best pizza on the planet, why stay.
But Northern Illinois has the most clean water. A luxury most of America cannot enjoy. Look 30 years down the road.

35%???? Are you a dope? He has his 20 years. The pension doesn’t pay based on age. Its time of service. He gets at least 50%. Sounds like he’s doing well. I’m sure his health care is covered. You can stay here and continue to be negative.

“A fool to move somewhere else” you say? So you’d rather stay in a shitty failing state than pay a tiny amount of state tax on your pension, for a much better quality of life? I can guarantee you that you will pay just as much in the new gas tax and vehicle registration tax here in Illinois. Look at the bigger picture. Quality of life and happiness means a lot.

Admittedly, you seem to be doing well, but I am not sure the addition of a 35% pension added to your current income would qualify as rolling in it. In 2024 that 35% might cover a modest car note.

Good point that he left out
Husband and self left Chicago for Wisconsin a year and a half ago - so glad we made the move. It was harder for him (lifelong Chicago boy) but he's adjusted pretty well nonetheless.
The people leaving are from the outer edges of the city where they still get hit with the city taxes, but don’t get much in return. Downtown Chicago and north side are seeing large increases - and high income earners are moving in more than moving out. It’s a good move for the city to keep this trend going. Tax revenues go up, and services for the rift-raff become a smaller burden
Keep up the good work!!
Suburbs are seeing similar migration trends. Not a bad thing if the state has fewer takers and more upper income taxpayers
Stomach these 4 years, we'll be okay in the end.

Are you living in La La land? It won’t get better - once a progressive income tax is passed by Fat Boy, you’ll hear a sucking of cash outta this state as wealthy and businesses relocate (if they can). Second Shitcago is $30-$40 Billion in the hole with Massive Pension obligations - State has $130 to $200 B in obligations depending on who is doing the actuarial study. It’s not panic time because US economy is humming. One recession and you’ll see Shitcago panic BIG time ... especially with more fuckers wanting to continue increasing taxes. Shitcago is fucked ... simple math .... workers are fucked ... just more taxes. All that fancy construction in River North and the Loop is based on shitloads of private debt - don’t let it fool you - it’s a house of cards that will collapse VERY HARD during the first economic downturn. 38% funded pensions will never get to the requisite 80%-90% funded to pay out obligations... simple math. State and City is run by simple minds. You heard it here first ... F U C K E DDDDDDDDdddddd .....

Don’t think the word exodus or hemorrhaging are the right words. Illinois has a population of 12.7 million residents. A loss of 157,000 over 5 years might sound like a lot but in reality it is about 1,25% over 5 years or a 1/4 of 1 percent a year
—————————
This is a big deal when other states are growing in population - some by large percentages. It means slower economic growth in IL and depressed housing values - less people less demand. Less Congressional reps too. Biggest issue is who will pay for all the unfunded pensions at State and City level. 1.25% is a big deal and will likely accelerate.
Democrats do not want normal people living in Illinois.
35%???? Are you a dope? He has his 20 years. The pension doesn’t pay based on age. Its time of service. He gets at least 50%. Sounds like he’s doing well. I’m sure his health care is covered. You can stay here and continue to be negative.

Get out.

Sure like to know what expertise you have and why you became the police if you are so qualified to make that kind of money? You should have went to the private sector in the first place

Pay in Florida, in general, is shit.

Hey congrats, I love hearing stories like this, aside from the fact that I'd rather eat a bag of broken glass than live in FLorida during the summer months God Bless.
Im doing 24 and a day,use your time off to learn HVAC,its in high demand in states like florida! I know a guy who makes 100,000 a yr down there after doing 20 yrs on cfd.

Depends on who’s leaving
They showed the crosswalks are paved in bricks with the pride colors. I am wondering what all that is costing the taxpayers, no wonder people are leaving the state for getting gouged.

They are simulated bricks. They make an impression of a simulated brick stencil in the fresh asphalt and then paint the "bricks" in whatever color(s) is appropriate for the area.

No need to guess. My brother left at 47 years old with just over 20 years. As soon as he hit 50 he began collecting his pension just over 50%. Call and ask the pension office. You are probably the same type that has been in fixed in deferred comp since day one. Uniformed.

A few years back my partner went to school for HVAC planning on retiring in Florida. Never went to Florida but still used the education to have a great side job in Chicago when he retired. Worked out great for him

Not the original poster but sometimes being in fixed is not bad. From day one I was in fixed and remained in fixed for 2 reasons until I retired
Most officers only think of today’s rates of 3%. There were some years were the rates were 9 % or more. Averages out to probably 7% so I probably gave up a few % to be able to sleep night. While I was doing this I also invested in the stock market and mutual funds. Did this for tax purposes. Now from that investment I’m paying the capital gains rate of 20% while I would be paying 28 % rate had I invested it in deferred. So the other side of the coin is I’m saving 8% when I had to start withdrawing at 70 1/2. So investing in fixed is not a bad thing
