Send in the Scooter Lawyers!

  • Reports of scooter-related accidents and injuries in Chicago are mounting.

At least ten people went to emergency rooms in the first six days of the city’s dockless electric scooter pilot, according to Streetsblog. The most severe accident so far was a hit-and-run on Thursday in which a scooter user on the wrong side of the road crashed into a bicyclist in Wicker Park, leaving the cyclist unconscious and badly injured, reported Block Club.

“So far it’s been a mess,” said Bryant Greening, attorney and founder of LegalRideshare, a Chicago law firm that focuses on rideshare-related liability. “Our phones have been ringing because of both self-inflicted injuries from scooter riders and pedestrians and cyclists struck by riders of no fault of their own.”
  • A scooter rider on the wrong side of the road and “weaving in and out of traffic” crashed into a bicyclist in Wicker Park and then took off, leaving the cyclist unconscious and badly injured, police and the victim’s friends said.

Allyson Medeiros, the bicyclist, was hospitalized after the Thursday early evening crash. A tattoo artist without health insurance, Medeiros was left with fractured facial bones, four broken teeth, a broken nose and cuts that required more than 20 stitches...
We have reports of groups of kids numbering ten at a time flying down streets, taking up both lanes of traffic, and not a single one over the age of 12. Anyone know how they're "renting" these things?

The countdown to the first fatality continues.

When you get hit and injured, remember to sue both the individual and the scooter company. Who knows, maybe you can get some money from the idiot too if they have insurance.

Can you sue the city too? Are lack of regulations, lack odf supervision and failure to enforce reasonable safety rules actionable?

This has been a disaster in every city, so its only natural that a liberal run city would give the green light.

I bet the groups of 10 and 12 year olds are 'renting' these things the same way that Car2Go vehicles were getting hacked to use for crimes.

Remember it did not take very long for people to figure out how to take a divi bike with out paying for it. These scooters are no different. Given there's nothing for certain folks to do all day, they will/have figured this out too.

Hey SCC,

We have a problem out here with these scooter!

The media types better start asking for FOIA regarding city camera videos.....it’s on video, we have seen it!

We have watched several videos where large groups are using these scooters like hunting packs.
Driving against regular vehicle traffic on roadways and running through pedestrians on sidewalks......

The video shows total Disregard for safety, or law! Injuries have already happened death will be next!

When have been asked how to control these wildings, the command staff is trying to get Bike teams to saturate area of this activity!
But Bikes cannot keep up with unlimited battery power and have no way to stop the scooters?

At least the guy is not a brain dead vegetable on tax paid life support for another 30 years.
These new scooter could be used a wedge to push for an Illinois Helmet law for motorcycles, bicycles and scooters. It would reduce the number of bicycles and scooters on the roads and sidewalks, maybe kill this fore-coming whole scooter disaster that will occur. I think even most motorcycle drivers could support it, it would get a lot of the riff-raff off the road, besides scooters and bicycles off the streets.

Will the batteries last long enough for a round trip? Or do they anticipate the return via carjacked caddie?

This is apparently a huge problem in Baltimore. Gangs of unsupervised out for the summer "youths" taking over the streets and sidewalks with bicycles and now scooters.

The basic norms of civilization break down when there are no traditional families, where children and teens are just turned out in to the street to do....

Whatever.

Left behind in Chicago

The scooters should be eliminated but they won’t. The feral predators, fueled by poverty, according to lori need them to commit crimes and wildings. Eventually one of them will be shot.

Yes, let’s add scooters to a heavily congested area. What could go wrong? Plus, everyone drives like an angry jackass, bikes blaze thru red lights and ignore all rules. You can do 5+ doorings and bike vs car accidents per day at north-damen-Milwaukee. Bad idea

Uber, Lyft, Divvy, other bike rentals, and now scooters ask for age, but don't verify. Just need a valid charge card.

Side by side Polaris update: likely a one-off.
Newest thing is a ROXOR, a Jeep-like vehicle with a full
steel boxed frame from Mahindra. Not street legal. Off
road with LOTS of torque for climbing/mudding in low gear.
Not likely to see these on Dan Ryan/LSD. They do have
packages to make them street legal, but a big-buck item.
More suited for the Gold Coast than sub-teen drivers.
Remember, do not chase.

Blame the police too comes to mind for non enforcement of non enforceable City ordinance and State laws.
The ambulance chasers have plenty of outlets to tap for pains and sufferings settlemints.
Untouchable CPS delinquent feral Rahm Kids need resources and free stol’t scooters are a necessity to get from one summer job to the next.
C’mon man.

So far we haven’t had or it’s not reported on, are packs of feral rahm yoof clogging the skreets with stol’t dirt bikes and ATV’s, much like the pair that were filmed on The Death Ryan last month.
Very commonplace in NYC, Atlanta, Charlotte, Cleveland, Miami and many more lawless Democrat run cities to mention.

The scatterings of pathetically morose scooters, abandoned for merely running out of juice, left to fend for themselves, all naked and vulnerable, like lonely nobodies nobody sent, some still proud and defiantly standing erect, some, sadly, succumbed to hopelessness and laying inertly on their sides, a few thrown with wanton disrespect into positions only the Keesing Bandit would recognize and applaud, another few but barren ghosts of their glorious emergence from the factories of their births, alas, oh Horatio, the Horrors!!!!

Weep for thee, oh noble scooters, thusly defiled.....?
