Scooter Murder
This didn't pop up in any of our speculation - we figured the shooters would be on scooters, not the victims:
- A 17-year-old boy on an electric scooter was fatally shot on the city’s West Side Wednesday, while three others were hurt in two separate daylight shootings on the South Side, Chicago police said.
In the latest outburst of violence, authorities said the teen was riding an electric scooter from the city’s pilot program on a sidewalk in the 3900 block of West Iowa Street in the Humboldt Park neighborhood just before 5 p.m. when a gunman got out of a red Hyundai and opened fire, police said. A second man got out of the vehicle, but wasn’t armed.
The teen, who was struck in the head and body, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. His identity wasn’t immediately released. Both escaped in the car west on Iowa.
Police didn’t immediately have a motive for the shooting, saying the victim lacked a criminal background.
Crime is down though:
- Despite this, through Tuesday, Chicago had 157 fewer shootings than it had during the same period last year, with 12 fewer fatal shootings, according to statistics maintained by the Tribune.

There have been times I have wanted to shoot idiots doing stupid stuff on scooters or bicycles, but I am glad I never did.
#36 for Fillmore's runaway murder lead of all districts and summer has just started. Runners up 006 and 007 are at least a dozen murders behind 011.
Shocked? Not really. 011 almost always leads the city in murders, total Part I violent crimes and "shooting incidents"(yawn).

The concept that there must always be an understandable reason is, in itself, not absolutely true.
The expectation that law enforcement can provide a reason is an expectation beyond absurd.
The Why is elusive, far more so than the What, How, Where, When and by Whom.
The blanket cover of shit happens is sometimes all that can be known.
And the reliability of not being the victim of a killer is, contrary to popular desires to believe, only an illusion.
Thus, statistics are the baby food of those yearning to understand and make sense of the nonsense that resists all attempts to not boggle the mind.

Unlike Garfield Park neither Fillmore or Harrison are Chicago neighborhoods , they are streets that had/have police stations on them.

That is one of the problems with the media, they have lost their way. The who, what, when, where, and how, isn't as important as the why. It is not the media's job to figure out the why of a story, just give the public the facts, anything more belongs on the editorial page.

It was an experience I'll never forget. Working under Commander George Sims with some of the best coppers ever during the riots and nonstop violent crime. I'm damn proud of working 011 during the most tumultuous era in CPD history. I never even heard of a "Fillmore Ranger" back then. The residents called us "da REAL PO-leese" from Fillmo'.
Yes, on Capt. Phil Moss' watch, we were working at noon at Pulaski and Madison where the MLK riot started on April 5, 1968, the day after his murder in Memphis.
First shouting mobs, followed by bottles, rocks and missiles flying at us, smashed store windows, looting and arson fires. Eleven bodies of apparent looters were found with fatal gunshot wounds in looted stores on the south side of Madison St. between Karlov and Kilbourn. 10-1's and shots fired everywhere in Fillmo'. Before that we had the riot that started outside the old fire house at Wilcox and Pulaski after the CFD tillerman accidentally ran over someone en route to a fire.

As someone who spent 7 years working there I agree with the second poster. It’s not Fillmore hasn’t been for a long time only dorks call it Fillmore. Nobody calls it Harrison either, it’s just simply 11. You need not say more than 11.
