Scooters Rescued

  • A dive team recovered dozens of electric scooters and bicycles while cleaning the Willamette River sea wall in downtown Portland.

KPTV-TV reports the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office River Patrol Dive Team removed 57 electric scooters and bicycles this week.

    [...]

A four-month experiment with the e-scooters last year was successful but also generated 6,000 complaints and raised questions about pedestrian safety and the impact of the devices on public spaces like parks. The city said the scooters also led to 176 medical center visits.
6,000 complaints and 176 hospital visits is their definition of "successful"?

It’s Portland. They’ll probably keep them, regardless of the stats.

They should have written:

A four-month experiment with the e-scooters last year was successful[ly implemented and concluded. The experiment clearly showed continuing with e-scooters on our streets would be unwise because the experiment] generated 6,000 complaints and raised questions about pedestrian safety and the impact of the devices on [our] public spaces like parks. The city [government official announcing the details] said the scooters also led to 176 medical center visits. [It has been decided the e-scooter program will not be implemented within our community to protect the safety and health of our residents and visitors and to protect our public spaces. Thank you. Mayor Stew Pidguy]

Yes it is successful as the vendors make lots of money and then kick back some to the politicians who chose them. The scooters are insured and you are probably pay for some of those ER visits by the mopes that get hurt.

Supposedly it only takes $15 in parts to make an abandoned scooter your own?

Im curious. When a scooter ends up in the river, is the person who rented it still being charged for it months and months on end....

Portland is the bermuda triangle for scooters just like chicago is the bermuda triangle for people who get up to an alarm clock every day and go to work and pay taxes.

The companies that administer these scooters are losing a fortune.

Successful because there were no scooter drive buys. Only a matter of time before Chicago has their first scooter shooter. Hey that's kind of catchy, scooter shooter. Could be a rap song with those words soon.

It just taks just a few jerks to make this project fail. It's a nice thought by Big Brother, but not yet.

Since the e-scooters are supposed to “ease downtown congestion” and get people out of their evil, fossil fuel burning cars, Portland city government (which is packed with leftist progressives) will turn a blind eye to any problems. It is the standard progressive triumph of the fantasy over the reality.

The reality is that the scooters are a hazard to those who ride them, as well as to pedestrians. The 176 hospital visits only counts the riders who crashed, it doesn’t count the people who tripped over scooters abandoned on sidewalks or stumbled and fell after nearly being hit by one.

BTW, the 57 scooters they’ve dredged out of the Willamette River were all in one small area of the waterfront. I expect there are hundreds more quietly rusting on the river bottom.

I certainly hope the sheriffs department is getting PAID by the scooter companies, for rescuing identifiable property from the river. If they aren't getting reimbursed for their costs, I hope they auction off the recovered property and keep the proceeds.
Tax $$$ should not be being used for rescuing private property and then giving the property back to the owner with no consequences. Send 'em a bill !

Grown people acting stupid at taxpayer expense. Always a market for that. The essence of liberalism; eternal youth, or high school anyway. Reflects the modern libturd living in a loft and connected into the hive that is social media. No regard for the consequences of actions, but always ready to become part of whatever mob that that fulfills th he immediate need. Useful idiots for the backers of whatever trend, and since they have no concept of casualty, blissfully unaware of the true costs of their desires. This is all money that could go to a hundred real needs. Instead, it's money dumped in a river, scrapers or ridden by a bum. Leveraged by some venture capitalist, and greased through the system until these toys pollute a waterway, fill a dump and provide extra work for EMS and hospitals . All so obnoxious louts can play Peter Pan

Yes it is. Successful for Chicago's legal community.

You auto insurance plan and your homeowner's insurance will not cover you on these scooters, not for property damage or personal injury. You are on your own. I am not sure if they even ask for a driver's license when a person rents these things. No helmet, no elbow pads and no controls . It is a really bad idea.People are getting struck by these scooters .

I was in Portland about a year ago. I was shocked. A dreary city, lots and lots of tents set up by the homeless or others in just about every park and grassy spot. Marijuana legal and you can smell it as you walk through the parks and sometimes down the street. Open smoking of weed seems to be accepted. Just a precursor of what is coming to Chicago, although if you are homeless/mental/drug addicted, it is better in a more mild climate then Chicago. But, if you want to see open smoking of weed in Chicago, just ride the elevated trains.

All one has to do to understand this is to look -really look - at Portland these days. Home to the most radical SJW's in the country.
Homeless everywhere...dammm....I mean the un-domiciled....shitting and pissing on the streets, tents and boxes as homes on the sidewalks and in the parks, non-working cars and rv's parked on the streets as homes....needles from junkies littered everywhere.....who gives a shit about E-scooters in the river?
Seattle, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Portland.......coming soon to a neighborhood near YOU!
Mayor Lightweight oughta re-think her priorities.
