Pointing Gun Report Delayed
- Officials are working on implementing a new rule that will require Chicago police officers to report every time they point a gun at a person.
Under the new policy, which is part of a consent decree meant to bring reforms to the Chicago Police Department, officers will have to radio the city’s Office of Emergency Management and Communications to report any gun-pointing incidents, according to a statement from CPD spokesman Luis R. Agostini.
Officers will be required to provide their radio identification or beat number, but not their individual badge number, police said. No written documentation will be required, and officers will not have to report cases where they unholster their guns, display them or hold them in a “low ready” position, according to Agostini.
The rule was initially scheduled to take effect on Monday, but it has been delayed “to ensure alignment and proper implementation” with the consent decree, Agostini said. A new effective date will be announced in the “near future” and the policy could be implemented within the next 30 days.
Combine this with the "Foot Chase Policy" and you are seeing the slow motion death of actual police work.

Call it the Netflix policy. Fuck you.
Hey I think all of these new policies are the greatest things ever. Every time they come up with a new touchy feely idea, my job gets easier and easier. Soon we'll be like the fire department, sleeping until we get a call then refusing to go.
No written documentation for the Officer. The Sgt, on the other hand, will have reports to fill out. Go read the G.O.. It is plain to see that this policy is in place to jam the Officer in the long run. This BS is going to get someone seriously hurt or, God forbid, killed.
This is all good news. More motivation for me not to do shit!
It's going to start off as just an over-the-air notification to OEMC, but will quickly evolve into some form of written report.
Guaranteed
but not their individual badge number

When did we start wearing badges? I've always worn a Chicago Police Star.
I don’t know why anyone would want to go to work for the CPD. As a longtime LEO in the Southwest, I would’ve walked off the job after telling the sheriff to shove that policy up his ass. As far as foot chases, if it’s not a felon or a danger to others, I won’t chase after 25 yards. There’s always another day. Criminals aren’t known for their intelligence and they always stumble. Patience my friends, patience.
But yet the criminals have no rules.
Maybe I should have worked for them.
The system supports criminals over police.
I fucked up.
Rules of Guns:
1. Do not point muzzle at what you do not intend to hit with bullet.
2. Do point muzzle at what ypu do intend to hit with bullet.
3. Do what you intend to do.
4. Then, Forgettabouit.
If conscentious by nature, clean tool of trade after each use thereof.
Finito.

Who is pointing their guns at people so often that documenting it would stop them from doing police work?
Don't forget it won't stop with pointing your gun, next if you drew it out of the holster, then if you ever rested your hand on your weapon while speaking to someone. Then comes the handcuffs, the SJW will want to know the time you placed handcuffs on someone so they can determine whether the length of time in cuffs was justified. And of course did you ever point your finger at someone even while giving them directions. Do you know that some law enforcement agencies have to notify their dispatcher if they activate their emergency lights so it is recorded. This reminds me of Obamas rules of engagement where troops had to request permission to return fire. This is where you are going with the loony left.
Unbelievable. Can't wait to retire from this SHIT HOLE. If it ain't one thing, it's another!!!!!
This is a deliberate and systematic dismantlement of police authority, police credibility and policing as a profession.
Every copper should start pointing their gun any chance they get and inundate this ridiculous policy and the authority with an unsurmountable amount of incidents to investigate What will the penalty be? a day off in the summer??? LOL Liberals fucking up the world with every step they take!!! How safe do you feel now! And can you see the public complaints on officers pointing their weapon and it is a taser or is it...you decide...FUCK EVERY SINGLE democRAT!!!
Police credibility and police authority, what planet are you living on pal. Those left years ago in case you haven't been paying attention. Given your post your probably one of those that would chase. Get with the program or leave.
Officers however, may point fingers at forcible felons and shout "bang."
Many Suburban agencies have been documenting incidents when they point their gun at a suspect in a supplemental report for the last ten years. Is it a pain in the ass? Yes. Is it better to have it memorialized in writing when false allegations from a defense attorney or suspect start flying ? Absolutely. In today’s anti- police climate longer more detailed reports save many a cops ass in civil court. The city is gonna try and protect their interests so u better embrace the suck and protect yours. Four extra lines in a report beats a a long deposition and the stress of being sued.
Joe "Groper" Biden says you can just get smart guns. Maybe incorporate a camera into it so city hall can see too. An RFID tag on the holster will record when you draw it.
Reading this blog is like watching the death of what was once a respected profession. Anyone wanting to join the Chicago Police Department should be required to read a month of SSC before they can apply. Anyone who still wants to apply should be disqualified on mental grounds.

EXACTLY! Very well said
Down here in Peoria, we've been doing that for years now. It sucks, nothing but paper, flagged body cans, another report....
Lawsuits very similar to”too tight” handcuffs coming to bleed more money from the taxpayer until they are all gone from the city.
Stay safe.
Brought to you by those who never have!
I didn't point my pistol at the suspect. I pointed my pistol in the direction of the suspect, a few feet away.
This is known as cya, cover your ass. A citizen
“It's going to start off as just an over-the-air notification to OEMC, but will quickly evolve into some form of written report.

Yup! Absolutely. And you know it’s not going to be a quick short and easy report either, it’s going to be some long drawn out ISR report. You pointing a gun is going to turn into a 100 questions of “what is the perceived race/ethnicity? What color clothes? What known mental or physical disabilities? Time of day? Lighting? Was the ground wet or dry? Were they in a car? Reason for being in contact with citizen to begin with?” These questions will go on for several pages, and finally they’ll ask for a narrative “R/O pointed his weapon because offender shot at R/O”
I pass the baton to CCL holders. They can point and shoot the offender. I am relegated to a highly paid security guard :(
I’m going to pull my weapon anytime that I need to and I’m not going to report it!

Doing real police work requires going after real criminals. Real criminals are dangerous. This policy will make officers hesitate in dangerous situations. Blue TSSS cards and parkers aren't dangerous or real police work.
...and the feral community does the same?
Giving in to this opens the door for even more future nonsense.
Maybe total concealment of duty weapons, heck take away all weapons from most police like the dainty France did.
And how about those intimidating black rifles and black vest covers?
Did you see the Yellow Vest police trying to corral the diverse, tolerant and inclusive celebrants after the Pride uprising?
All those endorsements for both Madigroins for re-election.
Some friend in Springfield.
Other law enforcement agencies (including FBI) have done the same and have not seen any rise in officer injury or liabilities. Nobody is preventing you from protecting yourself, just documenting it if you did.
If you are drawing your weapon when needed, it will help shed light, and provide valuable statistics to help identify just what is happening on the street.
If abuse by CPD leadership is a concern, then I’d keep the focus on them, not a policy that has been proven effective in other departments. Complaining and pushing back against the policy only make it appear as if you are afraid that a little sunlight will get you in trouble.
Consent decree ppl scheduled a meeting regarding a new policy for cpd via email. In attendance they want all working sat and gang teams along with working tact teams in the 005 district on Monday 01jul morning the same day this supposed nonsense went into effect. Great planning morons

^But the idiot chargers on the job just don't see it that way. Now if we can only get rid of the Mover books, ANOV’s and assign physical arrests to detectives. Traffic crashes can be completed online by the drivers. Patrol officers respond and hand out worthless RD numbers and make notifications.
Maybe Leftfoot can issue cap guns. Don't want to hurt no-one in da hood man.

progressive aclu and sjw loons pushing this nonsense.
Yeah... Dude sticks a strap in these willfully ignorant

You guys have NO idea what’s coming. This is the first thing of many. You will have civilian over site on EVERYTHING.
On a side note.....anyone dealing with a breach into their Federal Credit Union accounts? It’s very damn annoying!
Don't point that thing.
You're gonna put an eye out.
Don't run in the street, you'll be hit by a machine!
How did we get into consent decree when Justice Dept was against it unreal?
I love it, but they might start reducing our pay.
Remember low ready does not constitute pointing!!!

Im not sure I follow, how does reporting what you’ve done (after the fact) stop you from doing it?
Anyone now ready for a lateral transfer? If not why not? If your not leaving you are putting your family in a trick bag. Only a matter of time before they get you on something. Lower taxes, better schools and people supporting in almost any city or town not run by Democrats. Also a much lower cost of living. Good public schools save you the 10-12k tuition, huge saving in real estate taxes and much lower housing costs. Your not gone yet or making serious plans to leave then your a complete fool and will deserve what ever comes your way.

Dese Nuts say:
"SLAP!"
Do “community” thugs have to report to “the community accountability board” that they drew down on someone?
Oops...... forgot. There’s no accountability whatsoever for “the community”.
So sorry Mr. BAD GUY. I must know carry four pens. We must know leave our gun in a holder in the squad. Please wait I will be right back.
My rollcall has decided we are going to play Duck Duck Goose with our weapons and spend first 4 hours documenting.
All these clowns mentioning the FBI are idiots. A normal day for the FBI vs a CPD blue shirt cannot be compared. We are put in unpredictable situations, traffic stops, domestics, and all sorts of shit that the FBI never would deal with. That’s like comparing how many people a blue shirt puts in cuffs vs how many an FBI agent puts in cuffs per month. Very different worlds. This redundant policy is far harder hitting for us than them.

Not very impressed with the staff at the CPFCU. Must be hiring relatives or something.
“Who is pointing their guns at people so often that documenting it would stop them from doing police work?”
Go work in 011, even if you’re just answering your calls, you’ll end up pointing it at people often. Trying to be fetal, you slow roll it to some domestic, and asshole didn’t have enough sense to leave and he’s there waving a knife or a bat or a fucking crowbar around. If you work in the ghetto, there just some days shit just seems to find you.
“Other law enforcement agencies (including FBI) have done the same and have not seen any rise in officer injury or liabilities. Nobody is preventing you from protecting yourself, just documenting it if you did.

Here’s the issue, and I foresee it happening shortly down the road. You got some copper working in 011,015,007 or whatever shit hole, let’s say over the course of 3 years they have 15 of the notifications for pointing guns at people. If they work in a primarily black district, a good chance all 15 incidents will be with blacks on the receiving end. God forbid something happens and the officer shoots a black person, justifiably, you don’t think that will end up all over the news and in the courtrooms? “Officer shoots and kills black teen, had 15 incidents of pointing guns at black boys.” Or any use of force that will come up. Not only that, but do you think they’re going to stop at just a notification over the radio? And what happens when when the department is civilian run? Whenever some new policy is introduced, no matter how harmless it may seem, always think about how they can weaponize it against you and how it can jam you up. Because they’re not making policy for our well being or anyone else’s.
Snelling came to roll call and told us to not be afraid of financial liability and go hands on anytime we want to. Because “we’re the police.” He also said should anything go south he’ll take care of it and that he’s got our backs. I respect him for being a decent guy but I’m not sure I believe him.
Im not sure I follow, how does reporting what you’ve done (after the fact) stop you from doing it?
7/02/2019 04:13:00 PM
Oh, you follow.
Of that we can all be sure, shirley.
IDK, as said , this is just another step towards taking away all your power", but how often do you end up pointing a weapon at somebody as a cop in Chicago, even in the worst districts or jobs? Xtimes a week/month?
In civilian life , I have only had to point a gun once at somebody and that was to stop them robbing me , and had to threaten use of force twice, in about 35 years. And I did have to point a 105mm cannon at some infantry fools dropping mortar rounds around my tank in the Army(friendly fire aint friendly) , they stopped shooting.
Points me gun report!!
RETIREING EARLY WITH 25yrs Bye Bye

Great point! Unfortunately that's what will happen. They will use those incidents against you in the future.

Yep, it will be used against the police in the future. No Doubt
Well, if we have enough CCTV maybe we can just send everyone to corrections academy. Don't move a prisoner or suspect unless the camera is on and watched on a feed. CYA every day. Put towers up on every corner, etc. All we had to do is disarm the populace, and since we know that the community would never keep illegal weapons, then the Democratic nanny state can be a reality.
Old Skoo CPD Ghetto Revolver-packin Dick Says:
Although pointing a loaded gun at someone is a serious thing, it's not as serious as hesitating to respond to a possible threat and being shot to death when the perceived threat turns out to be real. Tru-Dat...

I love it when these house mouse supervisors say this crap. There’s nothing they can do when you’re jammed up or sued. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE for your own actions. The supervisor was not involved and he won’t be either.
