Unforced Error

  • A Chicago police officer and his supervisors are facing an internal department investigation after a video was posted to Hulk Hogan’s Facebook page showing the officer giving the former superstar wrestler a ride across the tarmac at O’Hare International Airport.

The Aug. 2 video, posted under the caption “Thank you Chicago PD much love!!!!!,” shows Hogan in the front passenger seat of a Chicago police squad car, with wrestling manager Jimmy Hart and an unknown cameraman in the back.

Sirens activated, the squad car traverses the tarmac while Hogan and the other passengers praise the Chicago Police Department. “My Uber’s got a siren . . . Chicago PD for life,” Hogan says at one point, before shouting “Watch that truck!”

When asked in the video if the officer would get in trouble for driving the trio, the officer says, “Trust me, no. My sergeant, he’s all for it.”
Courtesy is extended to a lot of celebrities - and most of it is undeserved. The reality is trying to control the crowds around a public figure detract from actual law enforcement resources, so it's easier to shuttle them off under the radar. We get it.

The trouble here is it ended up out where anyone could see it. And now there are questions arising from violations of not only Department protocols, but federal ones.

Call us silly, but we're pretty sure there are going to be two spots open at O'Hare in short order, along with some suspension time handed out. And if you lose a spot like the airport, you aren't getting another one any time soon.

This strikes me as one of those things that would be fine under normal circumstances, but not such a great idea when one's profession is under siege by a horde of assholes looking for any sort of weakness to exploit.

Also--kind of amusing that the Hulkster filmed this, given that so much of his post-1990s fame comes from a rather different sort of amateur film. Just sayin'

Nothing to see here as SCC does their usual job of making a merit mountain out of a mole hill. This ride along was nothing more then my latest "test study." Hulk Hogan has been a badge bunny for quite some time. After meeting with me he was fascinated by our job. The Hulkster wanted to get involved by helping out with giving bodyslams, clotheslines, and atomic legdrops to the criminals.

Ol' Thunderlips himself even helped train me for my cage matches against the ACLU and the Inspector General in which I easily won. Actually, I got my pathetic ass handed to me and I didn't win the Deputy Championship, but at least the Superintendent felt so bad for me that he didn't fire my dumb ass. Honestly, this isn't about me, or even Hulk Hogan. This is about what we as a department can do as a whole for other Hall of Fame wrestling legends.

So what ya gonna do Inspector General and ACLU, when these four time meritorious pythons run wild on you????!!!!

I guess the officers who participated in this little stunt forget about former cmdr Ruth Wedster, who entered the tarmac at Midway in order to hustle up some tickets from Elton and Billy Joel as they exited a plane to perform a concert at Wrigley Field. ok so does Lightgroot walk thru the halls like everyone else?

How bout Rahm --he should be calling the police soon-- apparently there are some suspicious vehicles parked outside his house day and night and i'm sure the occupants are armed....

When the cubs, bulls, white sox, and bears come back from away games are they all walking thru ohare?

Did some beat cop just happen to see HH and crew walking down the tarmac and say hey maybe i should give them a ride??? or maybe someone said go pick him up.....

I'm not all that familiar with FAA regulations and TSA procedures etc but when i see Lori lightgroot and family along with their PRIVATE security waiting in line at ohare like the rest of us, then she can bitch and moan.

In a time where the police nationwide are targets from offenders, hate groups, SJWs who are clueless, and politicians who have to shift the blame elsewhere and need a group to focus all the failures of their policies on....

Can we call this what it is "Squad I need a number for a positive community interaction"

finally POSITIVE publicity by a popular worldwide idol that puts the phrase "love the CPD" all over social media putting the Chicago Police in a positive light.

People like cop shows/movies for the lights sirens and adrenaline. Turn this endorsement into something positive for the city.

On another note, many a night in Lakeview there would be lights and sirens coming from a distance from 2 black SUVs weaving in/out of traffic. Coming from/headed to 4228 N. Hermitage. At times on the expressway during rush hour the same two vehicles lights and sirens--no one likes being stuck in traffic. When the drivers of those vehicles face discipline for violating traffic laws (responding to an emergency you say????) turn towards this incident.

I don't live in/frequent Humboldt Park but I would not be surprised if from the kimball/belden area there are also a large number of incidents involving similar traffic maneuvers

From a woman demanding "integrity" let he who is without sin cast the first stone.
It's not like he is making a false misrepresentation to a federal judge or anything

There should be absolutely no one defending what this copper did.

It was dangerous.

It’s against federal law.

It violated department policies.

It was totally unnecessary and totally avoidable.

And all of the above goes hand in hand with how the entitled assholes on this job conduct themselves. I’ll bet a months salary this PO was phone-called into that cushy spot at the airport with little-to-no street experience. And then to not have even enough common sense to try and pull off this stunt under the radar. Nah, gotta drive like a shithead, zigzagging around vehicles, people and planes on the tarmac, “si-reens” blaring, to impress some has-been “pro” wrestler-turned-amateur-porn-“star” who’s gonna put it all on social media for self-promotion.

Will the assigned investigators pull O’Hare surveillance of them leaving the airport and Rosemont surveillance of them arriving at their out-of-the-city destination?

Perhaps the funniest part of the article reads that the Hulkster was unavailable for comment. He must be too busy writing a check to Officer Starstruck to help offset his impending loss of salary. If I were The Hulk, I’d write “MY SERGEANT’S OK WITH THIS” on the memo line. And will Officer Starstruck be removing the Hulkamania poster from his bedroom wall now?

All this has got us going down Memory Lane... how many days did those fellas take when they took pix with strippers in full uniform, outside number and beat tag on their car clearly visible?

What it REALLY looks like is more ammunition for the haters.

More internal scrutiny (albeit likely temporary) for most of us.

If P.O. NoTime wanted to gargle a celeb’s sack, he should’ve been a lot more low key in doing so. Instead CPD once again makes the news as the embarrassing laughingstock we’ve become since just about all of what’s left of the old guard has been replaced by self-absorbed, self-centered, entitled, instant gratification, ADD, gotta-be-the-center-of-attention millennials for whom the CPD is their first “real” job.

There’s a million and one perks on this job. Then there’s also the phrase “Coppers ruin everything”; the advent of social media has only exacerbated the ruination.

Quit bumpin’ your fucking gums, broadcasting anything and everything you do, especially if it falls outside the parameters of department policy. Never give them the rope with which they’ll try to hang you.

This order had to come down from the C/O's office. Here's how it works, and Ive only seen it done for prisoners being transported.

At roll call you get a sheet of paper telling you to be at a gate at a specific time with another car for a prisoner transport. There is no fucking way an individual copper is going to take his Dept. vehicle onto the airfield side of the airport, "yaknow" the one with all the passenger jets landing and taxi'ing", on his own initiative without command of 050 knowing and telling him to do it. No SGT is going to do it either.

You should see the clout babies maneuvering for that airfield car, especially on days which is what I was on. And that was day shift. Theres no cage which means it was the airfield car, thats the car that only gets jobs on the tarmac side of the airport, the one with the Jumbo Jets running around.

So don't expect to much discipline to last to long. This guy will have his red stripe back soon. And who the fuck would even recognize this Hogan in the baggage claim anyways? The guy is from the '80s.

When I was detailed out of there before coming over to Revenue/FInance...the only damn car that was allowed to stage outside of Arrivals or Departures were Marked Gvt Plated vehicles (Like DHS) and the Mayors M Plate.

That was it.

Now they are coning off areas between Term 1 and 2 for vehicles to park.

FYI to the 2 Airport units. With Finance turning Midway and O'Hare into permanent posts for us...A tow zone will return to being a Tow Zone....unless it is a GvT or M plated vehicle. And CDA/CPD/OEMC can't tell us what to do.

Tell ya what - these so-called self-anointed 'celebrities' are just regular people. Short of there being some actual emergency with threats to life or limb, the cops aren't going to escort anyone anywhere. Sure, you might have some elderly or otherwise disabled person who needs some help across the street, but otherwise, the mantra needs to be 'escort yourself'.

If you're one of the self-anointed, you're getting paid MILLIONS of dollars for whatever kind of entertainment you happen to provide, be it on video, or some field of contest, so YOU fork over the $$$ to pay for private security to get your self-anointed ass through whatever throngs of adoring mental cases that you call fans and leave the cops out of it.

You want to get to the field of contest, or the stage on time? Do what the non-self-anointed do - LEAVE EARLIER to ensure you get there on time. No more of this bullshit where you arrive 10 minutes before you have to be there, and get armed escorts with emergency-lights and sirens going to blast across the Shitty to show up.

That kind of taxpayer-funded crap NEVER should have happened to begin with, but I get it - some bosshole somewhere was an adoring fan, or their boss was an adoring fan, or some politician was an adoring fan and so the coppers were told to escort the self-anointed, and the Public bought into that "Hollywood Fairy Tale" nonsense.

Forget it. When you see the self-anointed, if you're a fan - sure, shake their hand, pose for a selfie if the situation is safe enough, thank them, and walk away. Forget the escorts - LET THEM PAY FOR ALL OF IT and handle it themselves. Let them rent a limo or bus and get stuck in traffic for a few hours.

They, and their handlers will complain loudly to the Politicians who will then ORDER the coppers to handle the transports. And the proper response needs to be "Please give me a copy of that Order, Boss. I don't want to get my ass in a sling like the coppers who transported Hulk Hogan at O'Hare.".

Then wait until you get a copy, put it in your pocket, and go do your job. Take a picture of it with your personal phone AFTER SHIFT and email it to your personal email. Send it to a couple other trusted friends too. Lock that paper up in the safe or safety deposit box.
Then if you lose the paper, or it's stolen, etc. you've got an electronic copy to upload to SCC and 100 other news sites to CYA when the SHTF and the bosses BLAME YOU for the transport. YOU can point to the sheet and say "Nope, not my decision. My BOSS had me do this.", and you're done.

Let the BOSS handle it, and feed it up the chain until we find out (maybe) who actually ordered this bullshit.

You're not a dumb-ass teenager who's ga-ga with meeting a 'celebrity' - you're a fucking adult, so act like one. And given this current climate of 'everyone hates the cops, the cops are bad and must be reined in, etc.' protect yourself and your assets like an adult.

Was it a violation of Federal Law to send heavy equipment to Meigs Field in the middle of the night to gouge large "x"s in the runways?

8/11/2019 09:57:00 AM

Yes it is a violation to close an airport without FAA approval..The Chicago taxpayer ended up paying $100,000 + in fines to the FAA...Dailey didn't care, he got the job done.....

What ever happened to the CLOWN that was in Indiana in a city vehicle with lights and sirens and speeding over 100MPH and stopped by Indiana State Police?????? And they are going to fuck with a blue shirt assisting a citizen ?????? UNBELIEVABLE

Took the words out of my mouth

Indeed, what ever happened to that exempt CLOWN. Hey, FOP are you paying attention wake the fuck up. Stop going to bed with the city and start doing your motherfucken job which is to help the rank and file. Everybody in the world talks about the code of silence in CPD, well there you have it in plain view and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out. The code of silence only exists in the white shirt community and some clouted rank and file members. And, yes I am distressed that I don't belong in the C & S (Code of Silence) club. Been working pretty much in the Ghetto all my career with no luck of advancement or cushy spot anywhere in the department. No wonder there is a big concern of suicide on this job, LOL. Anyway suck it up and retire.

Oh, and by the way, fuck you GROOT and you're motherfucken puppet Stuperintendent along with his merit, no clue exempt staff.....:)

The Feds/TSA are going to get him. He’s probably lucky it was at O’Hare and not Midway. They went after Webster and several CPD and Aviation Officers and city employees at midway. They have an F/1 investigator at TSA that thrives on this. Depending on the spin he puts on it he will be lucky to get a slap on the hand but I see some time on the beach or re-assignment. Not including what the Feds may do. Most definitely a violation of TSA regulations for misuse of airport ID an access privileges. May be in trouble with FAA too.

Bingo, the security breach is what will jam him up. I had advanced credentials for driving on the runways at O'Hare. The area where they were driving was around the B concourse ramp. The planes are parked and you can tell when they are ready to get pushed out. You have the ramp-rats, with the vests and hand held guidance sticks, come out behind the aircraft to stop traffic along the service road. The tugger is attached to the front of the aircraft. If the cargo holds are open, like all of them appeared to be on the video, you know the plane isn't departing soon. You are required to have your mars lights on when on the airfield, including the ramp areas. The siren was likely a minor annoyance, if it could be heard at all over the aircraft. Most of the workers in that area are issued and wear hearing protection. The ride itself was short, from the center of the "B" concourse straight to the exit at the security checkpoint. The dramatics about "the publics safety being imperiled" is a figment of the media's imagination. The police officer had proper clearance from the aircraft and wasn't near any outer service roads, taxiways or runways. In short, the Hulk didn't get the grand tour. It appears that the days of extending courtesy are over. What I think of the media? Alpha Sierra Sierra Hotel Oscar Lima Echo Sierra. Roger over and out!

For CPD to get positive exposure on a Facebook account is a win win for us. Other than the sirens I think it was no big deal. I was at a block party this weekend with kids playing in a car. Right now ANY positive attention is good.

Looks like someone else got here before me.

Now personally I wouldn't have put it quite that way.. But the point is spot on.

If we end up treating the Airports like the rest of the city for deployment, you can bet this is going to happen. Include in the patrol areas ALL parking lots that are not behind gates that require Air Field Access ID and FAA Clearance. Aviation HQ. Aviation Security HQ, everywhere. Livery Lanes, Taxi Lanes, Commercial Vehicle Staging areas, the whole 9 yards.

And personally, I don't want that noise.

Positive for him, he got the celebrity treatment. But I can hear people saying, is that all the CPD has to do, and so on and so on. So I wouldn't say it's a win-win. And there are mostly liberal goofs on flakebook. If you want to feel smarter just go to almost any news station and read the comments under any given story.

No it's not a Federal law violation. Delta has a service where they pick up upper echelon customers at the bottom of the jet bridge and take them to another location via a Mercedes SUV.
8/11/2019 09:19:00 AM

Yes, and it's authorized to be there.
AUTHORIZATION is the point.
There is no way this was authorized, either by the FAA or the Department (which needs higher approval to put a car on the tarmac).

Not CPD here ...It’s crazy to me how the actions of one officer and and his
supervisor can put the entire department under the microscope .

Its not hard to understand.

There are elements of the public and the media that with every ounce of their being that totally hate the police and will use any excuse, reason or incident to put the police in the most negative way possible.

On Sunday, August 11th, I was south on I55 at 5:27PM near Damen when an Illinois State Police car, driving in the shoulder with lights and sirens on, drove past all of us inching along in bumper to bumper traffic. Behind the police car were two large passenger buses and a box truck, followed by an Illinois State Police SUV with lights and sirens on. Then it occurred to me! I’m sure the buses contained the Oakland A’s and the box truck contained their equipment and uniforms. They just finished their weekend series against the Sox and were headed to Midway Airport.

This comment here is one of the many reasons why Unit 50 and 51 are not popular at the airports with CDA Its not about whom has escort privileges.

It's about doing it correctly. CPD shouldn't even Have Airfield access. At least not until the department gets rid of Clout Hacks and the other morons that are in 050 and 051.

________________

Listen know it all. As another person who works there I can tell you it is bs (that the boss knows everything that goes on). Prisoner transports are something else. Don't make the comparison.
The Sgts also go along with ALOT or they don't know (at times).

I ran into 2 more after the first one above. I could see 'oops, wrong date for the 8/19 vs 8/15 or 8/14.

But the last one I found...from the Same officer...whom I will NOT out by # or name, was dated October 2019 for a 6/19 Expired Plate.
