Alderassmunches Have Ethics?

  • Chicago aldermen who also work as attorneys can’t handle criminal cases involving the city’s Police Department, a local ethics panel concluded in a decision made public Friday.

The ruling from the Chicago Board of Ethics has a limited effect on the City Council’s few practicing attorneys, but it adds a new level of nuance to how the city will enforce an ethics ordinance Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s administration overhauled in one of the biggest early actions of her first term.

It means aldermen who are attorneys cannot personally represent — or derive anything of value from representing — people in traffic or criminal cases where the Chicago Police Department is involved.

It doesn’t matter which law enforcement agency brings charges, the board concluded. If CPD personnel make an arrest, execute a search warrant, investigate a case, serve as witnesses or hold onto evidence — aldermen can’t participate in the case as attorneys.
This would seem obvious to any sane person - you can't represent someone who is also suing your other employer - in this case, the City of Chicago and its taxpayers.

But evidently, Brookins was doing it on a regular basis.

Most of the alderthieves (not just the attorneys) are guilty of having their cake and eating it too! It's the shitcago way. The truth is why on earth would anyone run for office and spend millions to get a job that pays a fraction. That itself defies reason. These dedicated public servants, don't kid yourself, ran for office for the sole purpose of filling their or their co-horts pockets. I know I know I am wrong, they are all there with integrity, honesty and for the purpose of bettering the city, their fellow man and themselves...WHEN PIGS FUCKING FLY! Speaking of pigs, Illinois has turned into one big democratic pen! They really should consider getting rid of the donkey and adopting the PIG as they are! Maybe the donkey represents the STUPID MOTHER FUCKERS THAT CONTINUE TO FOLLOW THEM AND VOTE FOR THEM AND OH YEAH PAY THEIR RIDICULOUS TAXES, TAXES & MORE FUCKING TAXES...OFF WITH THEIR HEADS 1 & ALL!!!

The phrase that pays is, “personally represent”. So some other bottom feeding lawyer in the firm takes the job and at the end of the day splits the take. The charade is even better when the aldercreature’s name isn’t on the shingle.

It seems shitcago is corruption on steroids. So glad I left the city. Any other city's corruption, is batting in the infant or even prenatal leagues.

No surprises.

Yeah, sounds good
"The ruling from the Chicago Board of Ethics..."

Please respond, anyone: who\what is the "Chicago Board of Ethics" ? Can anyone list names on this august panel?

Does the scope of authority for the "Chicago Board of Ethics" reach to the mayor and staff? Can the "Chicago Board of Ethics" initiate legal action towards any wrongdoing it may have found to be illegal? Refer said to appropriate prosecutors?

What a bunch of sh..

Slightly related but the tribune ran an article the other day detailing the amount of money being spent on private lawyers to handle police misconduct cases... 290 million in total. Never Once in the article is their even a word uttered by the writer about these same private firms donating millions of dollars to alderman for their election campaigns. Is this not a violation of ethics? Apparently in this city, a resounding No. Shockingly, the "journalist" completely ignores this and is all readily available under FOIA.

Brookins made $114,913 as a part-time alderman in 2011, making him one of the 19 highest paid alderman. While others chose not to accept annual pay raises while city employees were laid off, Brookins did stating, "Once it's out there, I think for me to give it back to the city for someone else to waste it somewhere else in the city doesn't make sense, and it doesn't help me with my obligations to my family." An additional source of revenue for Alderman Brookins is his law firm.[4]

On February 28, 2014, Brookins' chief of staff, Curtis V. Thompson Jr. was charged with accepting a $7,500 bribe as part of an undercover corruption probe,[5] and sentenced to 15 months in prison bu U. S. district Judge Samuel Der-Yeghiayan.[6] The Chicago Sun reports that "Thompson helped a federal informant land Brookins' essential support for a liquor license in the 21st Ward in 2013. In exchange, the informant handed Thompson 75 $100 bills stuffed into a Christmas card during a party at Brookins' office, court records show."[7]

I remember in the 1980s my partner telling me that his mother had tripped on broken sidewalk on the public way and she hired fast Eddie’s law firm for the lawsuit, and this was when he was an alderman. Eddie’s brother was also a deputy on the CPD.

This was his chief of staff! Look up more on Bookins and his ethics as aldermen.

Mark my words,

Each and every aldermen in Chicago has been under surveillance and wire tapping by FBI for corruption.......
It has been going on for several years. And they have been collection tons of evidence.

Just look at the players and you can see the pattern of moral and ethical acts the aldermen are involved in.

Ore ghetto lottery nonsence. Brookings will run afoul of ruling be fined and sue the city. City will pay him a seven figure settlement plus his attorno0fees, wait and watch this play out. This will cause all the other Aldermen to get their law licences and pursue the same senerio. A new twist on Chicago Values and the Chicago Way.

Never use Aldermen and ethics in the same sentence.
DEFINITIONS
ALDERMEN = THIEF OR CROOK

ETHICAL = HONEST OR TRUSTWORTHY

See the the difference.

Earned that moniker Crookins Brookins fair and square.
Fioretti made a fortune in civil rights settlements.
And that pretty much what all these “lawyers” do, settle with the city since Council routinely pays out.

Ethics, conflict of interest, that don’t apply to me and the famous Constanza play-dumb, “...was that wrong”.
So now they’re calling it a ethics violation or just a infraction, a misunderstanding understand ?
Alderman shouldn’t be allowed to even have M-F 9 to 5 side hustles, period.
Can’t contain them to 121N. Lasalle for 8.5 hrs a day....pay them part-time wages.

Look at Cook County too.
The Corrupt States Attorney still (unverified) still has ties to her last employers law firm, and that firm sues the County on behalf of inmates.

But face the fact, we have a On-Duty Community Activist as StupidIntended known nationally for doing his part to KNOWINGLY and without justification, entered upon an active Interstate expressway and interfering with traffic and commerce, not limited to public endangerment for the sole purpose to support and engage in pre-planned civil disobedience.
Any wonder what the compensation was for that stunt, maybe guaranteed job security thru April 2020 ?
Looks that way.

All Talk - No Action GrootFoot LightLoafer is looking the other way, raising taxes is more important than reforming a well oiled Machine.

The Chicago board of ethics is run by two political hacks Steve Berlin and Lisa Eilers. Their chairman is corrupt politically connected William Conlon. All have done the bidding of Rahm and the machine and before him Daley and now Lightfoot. They cleared Sophia “I’m friends with the Obamas “ King husband and buddy of raoul from lobbying violations because of her votes and his friendship with Rahm. They are now the subject of Usdoj and ardc complaints for allegedly filing a false police report in an attempt to harass an elderly complaintant who questioned Ferguson. Stay tuned.

$114,913 in 2011 was a fucking small fortune for
part-time work. Yesterday, saw the usual road crew at an
intersection "working." Just like a scripted play. Maybe 3 or 4
guys actually using machinery, ect. The rest standing around
in small groups yakking. The lone policeman in full uniform
protecting these jokers defrauding the taxpayers stood out
like a sore thumb. This is nationwide. The $115K Chicago boy
went the extra mile with his Sears tie and jacket.

Well, now it comes out...
F. Huffman paid $15K for a consultant to inflate her
daughter's SAT scores (to gain college admission).
That's 15 days in jail, $30K fine, and >200 hours community service.
Since the colleges only have so many seats, that means an honest
student was screwed out of admission. People have been gaming
this system since back before the Kennedy brothers all got into
Harvard (legacy admissions). As a kid I thought how come so many
unusually bright kids from one family? Answer: unusually bright money.

These type of people play both sides of any manufactured conflict. This is a ket element of identifying these tactics employed by the shyster attorneys. Create a problem where there is none, but conveniently offer a prepackaged solution....for a steep price.

Alderman Howard Brookins is a piece of work. Why he has not been taken down by the feds is beyond me. He would send written complaints about crime and drug dealing to the 006th and 022nd District, and then when action is taken against the offending parties, he is the criminal defense attorney protecting the scum he complained about.
And more often then not, the CCSAO backs down or loses the case.
This is not rumor, this is factual.
