So Kenny Johnson Got.....?

We can't find a single story (as of this evening) saying what disgraced former skinny commander and currently convicted felon was sentenced to. We did recall this story from May:
  • Preliminary guidelines call for Johnson to be sentenced to up to about two years in prison for the felony conviction on one count of theft of government funds. U.S. District Judge Manish Shah set sentencing for Sept. 11.
That was yesterday.

This was not an error in judgement! This wasn't a mistake. This was not bad choices. He would of done it another 10 years if allowed to. Throw the book at this guy with the most severe sentence and triple the amount in fines and obligations. I would love to protect our pensions, but not a convicted felon's pensions. Don't forget people, his salary wasn't under $100K or a policeman's salary, it was double that AND HE STILL WANTED MORE!!!!!!!!! Oh wait, it's cook county and he does not fit the demographic to set examples with. My bad

It was either the summer of 93 or 94. And you rotated backwards. Days to Midnights to Afternoons. If you had to work on change day and you worked the Wednesday also, you got off at say 3 and had to be back to work at 11 that same night.

You don’t need anyone from the pension board to answer that. It has to be a felony conviction related to your police job. And does being a commander have to do with anything? Pension rules apply the same to all ranks

I’m one of those old timers who used to rotate and yes people hung out more but other than that I hated it. Just when your body got used to one schedule you switched. Getting used to midnights was brutal and I just remember being beyond exhausted and dreading going to 26th and Cal or Juvenile Court in the morning. It’s been proven to shorten lifespans and being forced to drink at 7am with tour peers is stupid. I’ll take my steady schedule anyway and plan my year in advance.

The 28 day rotation ended the summer of 1993, the same time they brought in Community Policing. I loved rotating, you got to see everything, work each shift, live a normal life for a few weeks and move on to the next one for a few weeks. I also had the chance to rotate in a forward rotation changing every three months. The body had time to adjust to the schedule and it was less stressful and tiring on the body. The forward rotation was Days, Afternoons then Midnights instead of the other backward way. That made it even less stressful since you were staying up a little longer when you were already used to it, instead of the exact opposits of being awake now at the same time you were sleeping last week. I would love to go back to the three month rotation.

Slow down kids. He will not lose his pension, but he will NOT get a commander pension. You must sit 4 years in that position to earn it. He wasn't a Lt but about 2 years. The commander and Lt. pension is not a blend (they cannot) so he will get a blend of a Lt and Sgt pension.

Even during the time of rotating watches, some districts had a permanent 3rd watch.
011 was one of those districts.
It was good and bad.
Good: You worked with the same people all the time. So camaraderie was high.
Bad: The bosses from the rotating watches didn't give a shit about you. You weren't one of their watch guys. So, when their watch rotated to 3rd, the permanent 3rd watch guys got the shit cars...shit details...shit starting times, and were last for time due or early duck considerations.
You were the rotating watch's red head step children. You were essentially in the way.
As they fucked you, WC's had no problem telling you, "This aint personal". "But I gotta take care of my guys first".
In time, you came to understand this was the price you paid for not having to rotate every 28 days.
Ah, them was the days.

The deceased mom was clouted with Daley and Rahm's city hall.
Older brother got a supervisor job with OPS
Sister was a ward superintendent for IDOC and had a big job under Tom Dart
Plus the twins fed the media all kinds of dirt on their enemies, which is why the media loved them and gave Kenneth Johnson a pass as to covering his arrest and conviction.

CPD never had a forward rotation nor did we rotate every 3 months.
We rotated backwards and every 28 days like clockwork.
1992 was the last complete year of rotating. It only lasted briefly into 1993 and then the straight watches we know now came to be.
