Groot Taking Suggestions
- Chicago aldermen are urging Mayor Lori Lightfoot to lift the city’s ban on video gambling, create a new city sticker for ride-hailing vehicles and, if a massive property tax increase is unavoidable, phase it in and make the bitter pill easier to swallow by abolishing the $9.50-a-month garbage collection fee.
Those are among the ideas floated during closed-door meetings with small groups of aldermen that Lightfoot’s financial team has been holding this week to solicit cost-cutting and revenue-raising ideas to eliminate Chicago’s $838 million shortfall. Former Mayors Richard M. Daley and Rahm Emanuel did the same. It’s a way to appease aldermen, share the blame and build support for the difficult choices ahead.
Conspicuously absent from the list of aldermanic ideas obtained by the Chicago Sun-Times is the property tax increase Lightfoot wants desperately to avoid, but has refused to rule out. Instead, aldermen have raised the two progressive revenue ideas Lightfoot would love to adopt if only the General Assembly would sign off: a graduated real estate transfer tax increase and a sales tax on professional services.
These are the assholes who voted in the massive deficits and extra spending that has driven Chicago to the the brink. In fact, they signed off on Shortshank's Skyway deal and the parking meter fiasco.
These are not exactly paragons of fiscal restraint. You could save tens of millions eliminating half of them tomorrow. Who's going to suggest that?

Ride-share vehicles should have to pay a few thousand per year for the privilege of basically running a bootleg cab operation. If city stickers are the chosen source of that fee, so be it. These fucking morons deliberately block traffic at every pickup or dropoff, simply because they're "picking someone up" or "dropping someone off." Then they do an illegal u-turn, almost always in front of traffic that has to then stop for their illegal, unsafe maneuver, simply because they think traffic laws don't apply to them. Working for uber or Lyft doesn't make you some invisible, invincible, invulnerable force, exempt from all traffic laws, because you happen to be picking up a fare. These morons are the most dangerous and reckless drivers on the road today. I'm 100% in favor of anything that costs them money and/or holds them accountable for their ridiculously unsafe driving. Fuck them and the aldermen.

and property values. Chicago is being nickled and dimed

The Fed is a Private Company created by Bankers to siphon-off the wealth of America at the magic rate of 7.12% This private company prints money and charges the Congress for the privledge. That rate is significant as it doubles the money supply every 10 years; it cuts in half the money you have saved by doubling prices every decade through inflation.
A house cost $1000 in 1913, a loaf of bread was one penny. There were no 30 year mortgages because they wern't needed. Diluting the money supply causes inflation.
It is a rigged game of Monopoly that we can never win, which explains why every elected Official is on-board with Socialism.
Tax professional servces=boon for suburbs and other states and moving companies. Try kicking out the illegals, locking up criminals who cost a bundle, stop wasting money on stupid programs and make the miscreants pick up garbage as penance, 9h and stop mega settlements on dumbass winable cases.

Agree. Inflation is a tax on savings and is the method to halt generational transfer of assets of real value. The aim is to make each generation less able to prosper and more entrenched in distraction technology (always a new gimmick being sprung) so that noticing of this injustice seldom occurs.

I try to fathom every property-be it an empty lot, with a house or regular business is taxed.
Every occupant of those houses who works, is taxed.
(For this example, I’m including only responsible and legitimate US, City of Chicago citizens )
Every thing a person picks up at a grocery store, is taxed.
The gasoline propelling that persons car to the store or to purchase that food, is taxed.
Grab a candy bar, pack of gum or coffee on the way out the door, it’s taxed.
Go to a sporting event or the theatre, it’s taxed.
The “it’s taxed” list is certainly endless and yet there’s an $838 Million dollar shortfall.
And Mini Mayor Lighthead stands there wearing one of her fathers business suits-cry’s broke, despite allocating 100 Million for another previously dumped issue?
My only question is simply where did all that tax money go?

*** I agree..All of these air quality, emissions freaks can pay extra for their uber/lyft. We tax payers who own cars and pay ins fees, registration fees yearly, city stickers, and car payments can at least make the yuppies pay their fair share for using a vehicle in which they get away with all the bills us car owners have.
