What Could Go Wrong?
- SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California prison officials have halted an effort aimed at forcing warring prison gangs to get along with each other after the inmates wound up brawling and even rioting when placed together in prison recreation yards, officials told The Associated Press.
The effort started a year ago with officials gradually allowing prisoners from different gangs into exercise yards to try to get them to make peace. This permitted officials to reduce harsh restrictions that kept gang members locked up in cells for lengthy periods without access to rehabilitation programs that could allow them to shorten their sentences.
But the greater liberty generated the same result at several state prisons: Gang members brawled in what critics labeled “gladiator fights” that they allege prison officials deliberately set up to get the inmates to fight.
As far as we're concerned, the only failure here is the failure to find a pay-per-view vendor to broadcast the "gladiator fights" to defray the prison costs. Maybe next time.

As the son of CPD member, I remember Dad floating the idea of inviting street gangs of the '60s to come down to the then empty Soldier Field for good neighbor nights during the summer. Serve food and drinks, pass out weapons and let the carnage begin. When the fight was over, he'd pour some concrete over the dead and wounded. Then open the place up the next Saturday night for another round. Some ideas stand the test of time...

Surprised they didnt broadcast it. Great way to pay for shit clean up on tge streets. Heaven knows they don't lock up anyone anymre. Surprised these gang bangers could still fight. They must all be kind of old now.
They want to fight? Let them. To the death if they want. Then charge the winner with manslaughter, murder, whatever. Keep them in prison for another however many years. In the meantime, let that one fight with others that want to fight.
Gangs want to fight? Great. Pretty soon this will be a self-correcting issue.
Sure would be a fun night to get together with friends at a local tavern and watch these gladiator events with plenty of draft beer.
Prisons should be segregated.
Split them up by race,gang,home country if not US, whatever you got.
Hell, they should make sure cell mates are in the same weight class.
Anything that can be done to make prison easier to manage should be done.
Most of this kumbaya stuff doesn't work on the outside, no way it will work inside.
Gladiator fights, why not. We are witnessing the fall of the Empire, might as well go full Commodus: the toilet Emporer.
i suggest ordering the inmates pizza as it really calms them down. Perhaps a Crips/Bloods museum day is in order.

When the Russia, Russia, Russia bullshit from the demorats dies off, we can ask them to send over some penology experts to show us the proper methods to run a no-nonsense prison system. I'll bet they can even show us how to cut costs.

How is this possible ? Here I thought hate crimes, hate speech, violence and murder were illegal? Never would have guessed this would continue in prison. Maybe CA should hire Dart to take these victims of poverty on field trips and pizza trips.

maybe they should try Chicago pizza. Dart swears by it so it must work.
Maybe the officials could force the gladiators to learn the choreography of Michael Jackson videos to keep them calm as they do in Korea prisons.
I say we dump our prison population in the mountains of Afghanistan. It’s a win win. Also, check out the documentary prisons around the world. It’s a real eye opener
I always thought exchange prisons would be a good idea. You know, someone convicted here would be sent to a prison in Beirut or some other garden spot, while one of their inmates would be sent here.

9/26/2019 04:54:00 PM? The "Bulldogs" were the slicks of the 129th Assault Helicopter Company. "Cobras" were the gunships. Don't forget, the slicks had side gunners with M-60s. Bulldogs racked up pretty good scores too!

Good idea, either that, or bounce some shotgun blasts off those concrete floors , but that wouldn't be PC.
Actually , somebody could advise inmates to use their contraband phones to broadcast these fights on the internet and make money off visits and advertising hits. Sure some gang-leaders would appreciate more side hustle.
