Chicago Subcontracting?

Have the unions priced themselves out of certain jobs? It sure looks that way:
  • I'm not sure how many are aware of this but apparently Streets and Sans is contracting out street sweeping services to Elgin Sweeping Services Inc. Below are notices at blocks of 6100 W. Gunnison and 4300 N. Austin. More privatization of city jobs under the radar!
There are pictures of the signage (click for larger versions):

Does anyone know if the above addresses are in former-alderasshole Arena's ward? That would be amusing - a progressive socialist eliminating union jobs.

This signage doesn't say "City of Chicago". It's the public way. Are these signs valid for tickets? I'd contest it.

OT: Screw these greedy teachers! They get everything they want and feel too victorious to quit while they're ahead. They want to be reimbursed for striking? Are you kidding me? They're trying to disguise their true motives saying the children are being shortchanged. Yeah ok. Cps does nothing the last week and half of school yearanyway. At this point, let'sgo for the long haul..

Go with the low bid I say... get a few people with a couple of push broom and shovels like the people of Germany clean up the rubble ridden joint back in 1945. Oh that’s racist...

Any ways in my masters course at DePaul... I put a leftist foot in his mouth and the other foot in his ass when he let out a bunch of hot air in class about how Jesus did not exist... I openly commented and asked “I am not a Christian but I do believe Jesus existed as a person given how many cultures were influenced by him over the millennia; Now, Do you believe that the prophet Mohammed ascended to heaven upon a winged horse from a Jerusalem given a more than a billion believe this today?”

He replied, why did I ask such an insensitive question? I asked the classed if the question was insensitive. They said no. Unilaterally he refused to answer. I responded I take it that your answer is “YES!” Leftists have no balls

In the fall they also contact out due to the large amount of leaves need to be swept up. A normal route in the ward is cut in half due to the amount of times the sweeper needs to dump his load (somewhere somebody is making a sick joke)

Of course the unions have priced themselves out of work. We shouldn’t be paying people $40/hr to drive a street sweeper or pick up garbage anyway. Because neither that “skill set” nor the level of exertion is worth $40 / hr. That’s just a fact. I’m tired of unions making sure union workers are grossly overpaid. And enough with the nonsense about guaranteeing a “living wage for families.” That’s nuts. The $80k/year streets and san workers (who all keep the Democratic voting machine well-oiled) live better than people who work twice as hard in similar menial labor jobs. That’s not a living wage. That’s graft, theft, and corruption at its finest. No one “deserves” that wage for that job. I’m fine with paying that wage to people who work hard. But not to drive a street sweeper.

Elgin does most of the major streets (state roads?)on the N side. I've lived on one for 10 years so it's been a while. Why I don't know but like mentioned already prolly a deal some connected person got a while back. BTW they do a shitty job and it's rare people move their cars since there's no enforcement.

They are just adding on to pay for the political campaign contributions sort of a payback they are not getting rid of the regular streets and sanitation drivers they’re doing this because of the leaves that are falling got to give some of that tax money back to the people they give to you right elected officials?

OT
So these teachers if in a few years since they only work generously 1300 hours an year will be making 78/hour to teach. Wtf!!! Make them work 2080 hours a year. They can do prep time in the summer. And over spring break and summer break. Why is this not mainstream news those actual hours worked vs everyone else. That’s why the regular person that works isn’t home I time to pick up their kids from school cause they gotta work a whole day. Why don’t teachers? They don’t have to teach kids the whole day. But why do they get to pretty much live the schedule of the student? They are supposed to be full time professionals. They should work full time professional hours. Yellow PRep time!!! Let them reap what they sow.

Looked up Elgin Sweeping. Nice website. Their only
client listed is Zifkin Property Management which Crain's
said was going to close down in an article from August,
2012. I don't live in Chicago so I don't know what's going
on, but I am trying to picture what's going on. So many
names, so many Sister Companies. We need Dan Deardorf
to help sort it out.

There's that phrase again "the public way."
Last time I saw that here was when a certain city employee
decided to take a vehicle nap along "the public way."
When you merge the Chicago Way with the public way you
enter The Twilight Zone.

Monday or Tuesday of this week while driving along 4800 - 5600 N Nagle I saw an Elgin street sweeper in action.
I recall seeing them on city streets before, but only in construction zones. There is no construction in this area.

So here’s the question. If this is a case of ‘saving money’ will the savings actually help the citizens?
Hell no, this is just a ploy to create campaign donations from another corporation.

I’ve seen private company cleaning up in 41st Ward - as required for construction mud/debris and repaving.
Maybe that’s what it’s for.
But wouldn’t be surprised if it’s another secret pilot program with an attractive short term, no competition low bid just to get a foot in the doe.

Ever notice the 3-4 man crew plus the driver and a supervisor for that $9.50 monthly charge to put yo trash in the can?
But the private Blue Cart phony recycling program pickup is a ONE PERSON CREW and that includes the driver !!!!

I’m willing to bet dollars to donuts that S&S is in for a huge revamp and of course another homeowner service fee.

Teachers win big , city tradesmen will lose prevailing wage next contract .
Will receive pay comparable to private sector , US Steel , not the wages that real tradesmen earn because they get layed off , sent home in bad weather , do not receive sick days , two pensions .
it's over , most city tradesmen couldn't wire up an outlet , install a toilet

elgins been around for about 50 years as far as ive seen. they do all the sweeping behind the grinders on the expressway repaving jobs. they seem to do a good job but i know nothing about their ownership. btw the city trades have joined together to kiss loris ass and so far no talk of losing prevailing wage. um and you only get two pensions if you work over 10 years on the outside and its based on hours worked only. so its not two full pensions like the political revolving door ruling class get. work for the city for 25 years get a 60 k pension and 10 years on the outside pick up another 20k and maybe a small amount of s.s. after the windfall elimination provision deduct. so maybe a guy with 35 years outside in the weather gets 80 k a year. doesnt buy as much as it used to. when i left the city it was 33 1/2 years of service and 62 1/2 years of age for a 75% pension. no one getting rich here. now we did have b.a. s retiring at 55 and 60 with half a million a year pensions that the papers reported on, funny there were no records of who sponsored the bill or voted on it and daley and no one in springfield could remember the details. the politicians are the theives not the chump with the shovel digging a hole in january. youre welcome.

“ the politicians are the theives not the chump with the shovel digging a hole in january. youre welcome.”

Please. I’ve seen the “chump” digging the hole in January. It’s 1 guy while 4 stare at him. And he digs for 4 minutes before he is exhausted, and everyone else is exhausted from watching, and it’s time for a break. Although the union driver, who is only allowed to drive, has a break the whole time. He just gets the truck there, parks, and goodnight.

GFY, you’re not getting any sympathy from anyone. Streets and San and CDOT are the biggest scams in the city. I hope you’re all replaced with guys that will work twice as hard for half the rate and not blindly vote Democrat.
