- That call became a crucial piece of evidence in a trial that ended Tuesday with the conviction of the two Chicago police officers, who were accused of using bogus information to secure search warrants used to then steal cash and drugs.
Both officers faced five counts each — including conspiracy, theft and obstruction of justice charges — and jurors found them guilty across the board after a trial that lasted roughly two weeks. Salgado was also convicted of lying to the FBI.
The jury deliberated for roughly five hours Tuesday. Each officer potentially faces several years in prison, and sentencing has been set for Jan. 23.

Some obscene percentage of "merit" appointees have been jailed or fired over the past few decades. There's usually a reason they can't pass the test high enough to get promoted - they're just not that smart. Yet they still get made, get spots, and then think they're smarter than people who have been catching dumb criminals for years and end up embarrassing the rest of us.

Not one bit of sympathy for these guys. I don’t want to hear how they’re “good guys” or they were “real workers” or any other stuff like that.
Something that would improve the merit system is to formally publish sponsors, so that when someone fucks up or gets indicted, the public knows who sponsored him.

Yeap, and Ronald Watts and William Patterson were both Sgts that both went to prison for corruption. Funny how RW through me off the tact team once upon a time but Ronnie if you are reading this there is a saying out there: "He who laughs last, laughs the loudest and the longest."
Ronnie got fired/sent to slammer for two years with 19 years on the job.
Billy Patterson just got out after serving 19 years or so. 69 years old, had 27 years on the job and I'm guessing his annuity will have to support him til death.
Merit promotions killed this department.

They did convicted on a felony while working its gone! Another example of extreme stupidity,losing everything for pebbles, just another embarrassment! Then you read the stories they hit a house first and found the cameras and wired devices then turned in all the proceeds,but were stupid enough to try it again! It appears that the Chief Justice voted on possibly 10 cases in which her husband represented one of the parties. I wonder how she voted?
The President of the City Club is a registered lobbyist for Com Ed.
Everytime the honorable president of the august organization weighed in and offered his opinions on legislation and rate issues these opinions were reported by the media.
They never mentioned that he was a lobbyist.
