Sgt Exam Deadline Extension?
The city can't get people to take the entrance exam. We heard the next test didn't even top 1,000 applicants which is why they keep extending the sign-up deadlines.
Now we're hearing the Sergeant promotional exam isn't attracting much interest and the sign-up has been extended two more weeks? Can anyone confirm?

Not interested. Seems a cop out, but I have no desire to be sent back to some crap district with terrible hours, all while trying to get these know it all new super wonders to stop chasing everything under the sun. With everything they have planned for the Consent Decree, I say no thanks. Trying to find the exit door asap.
Deadline to apply was still 21-OCT. Deadline to pay was moved to the 28th.
Not even 1000 signed up? F this job. Paycheck only matters here at this point.
I’m on furlough. Heard you have to go to a city office to sign up? No more on station computer?
Why would you want to be a Sgt? You’ll be a sacrificial lamb, no thank you
Young, strapping FedEx kid where I work quit to pursue CPD training. A few weeks later he was back on the truck. Said it’s not a good time to join CPD.
Only 3800 have paid. People have figured out why bother. The city can't absorb the cost.
No shit. Anyone with half a brain who has a decent spot in this department is thinking.....go back to patrol? On midnights working in the worst of middle management for the likes of say, formerly commander Gloria Hanna? Yes yes I know she’s a deputy now but I mean cut from that cloth. No thank you. I’ll take the test, and if the call comes? Ever? I’ll call them and turn it down just for the sake of saying when they ask why..... “Because you ruined this department. Your numbers whoring, ill-quality boss pleasing, meritorious double standards, and outright second class citizen policies for officers and supervisors that actually go out there and do the job have made that position entirely undesirable.” You fucks can keep it. Go have another cocktail with special Ed, maybe do a drive by on an autistic kid while you’re at it (and keep your job mind you), while the honest human mistake making copper gets the shit chute. At this point, just making it out of here is a blessing. Managing millennials who crash squad cars into ambulances....covering up slumped over the wheel supers, and approving rule 14 midnight New Years false gun arrests isn’t the way to make it to retirement. I’m good.
I'm a patrol sgt can understand why a patrol officer wouldn't want to take the sgt test. All I am is a glorified babysitter and an FTO. I actually enjoy the FTO part. I try to help out the new POs and fill the gaping holes left by our inadequate academy/FTO system. The babysitting part is the worst. Fully grown adults in their 30s and 40s who act like children. It's not the kids in their 20s that are the problem. I'm not even talking about activity, that's the WOLs problem. I don't go to compstat, I couldn't care less. Just show up on time, in uniform, go to your assigned calls, and leave your car clean and gassed up at the end on the shift.
I have over 25 years on this job and approaching 55 years old!
You can't order me to take this test now!
Forget about it!
Who wants to be responsible for the actions of poorly trained last resort hires?
The ship has sunk.
I know many including myself that just want to do our time and get off this quickly sinking ship. It’s way too risky to become a Sgt nowadays. It does seem like very few are taking the test. And many are looking to retire at 20 years.
Look at the reading list, and you’d understand why! Besides, most people with two brain cells realize that since they were allowed to cheat the Lt exam by five or more spots, you have to ask how many will they cheat and merit in this time by undermining all that hard work. You can bet big money this test will be the worst of all the test scandals. And when it is all done, she will fire EJ and claim it was all his doing.
“Its RIGGED.”
First thing that came out of my FTO’s mouth when I brought it up. To be fair to the laws of probability anyone who takes it has a chance of making it. 30%-40% of promotions are stolen by merit. Another 30% by cheaters. You’re left with 20%-30% for the average unconnected officer.
Kind of like the application to become a Chicago Police Officer. No interest at all.
Why take yet another rigged exam, one that will see unqualified “folks” get promoted over people who can actually read and write.
Seiser Runs it.
Not to mention that you have to appear in person to 1 of 5 locations just to pay your entry fee. I originally signed up but afterwards saw that and decided I guess I don't want it that bad.
Do we really need promotional exams? The merit system is working really well. Make everything merit, forget the silly exams. The exams are racist anyway. No more lawsuits. Just think of it. Only the best and brightest from now on.
Why bother to test just use merit or clout to get the next step on the ladder. Testing is for fools.
I don't need no stinking test I got Clout.
Can’t get the right people to sign up or anybody to sign up? Big difference!! Lol
why take a test when the power mongers promote assholes like the current superintendent.
No thanks. 22 on, 7 to go. Swipe in swipe out, move on.
Ha ha ha... who in their right mind would want to be a supervisor on this sinking ship !? All I can say is remember the Sgt in 008 that approved a TRR the night of the Van Dyke shooting ??? He wasn’t on scene had nothing to do with anything related to that shooting with the exception of some boss called 008 and asked him to approve the TRR. He got fired for nothing . So, fuck this city . Fuck the added responsibility. It’s not worth it . I’ll continue to drive in circles and watch Netflix .
True. True. Is has been extended to 04 November.
Was going to take sergeant exam few years ago, but was working days had a assigned car decide it was not worth it to go back to working midnights and some shit district just wasn’t worth it was not worth the extra money or the extra stress just like it is today why bother?
I bet the sgts that had to deal w/ tripple super merit given the answers EJ were thinking, "I'm really not valued enough or payed enough".
No thank you! Don't want to be on the hook for these dummies.
Who the fuck wants to sign up? Between merit and heavy clout calls most of the promotional spots are already taken. Why waste the time?
Why is this happening? Here's the answer: SGT. FRANKO.
So 1000 clout babies got the answers already? Wow! That's quick.
LMAO well I guess my daily comment about "Why would anyone take this job anymore?" is not done in vain? I've talked about 10 people out of becoming the police. Even when I worked at 311 and someone called up asking about ON A RECORDED LINE I still talked them out of it while at work even with my SGT listening in at times.
I took the SGT and DT exams once and never made it because I was running a business and had zero time to study. 30% merit plus how many others given the answers in select study groups? And then if you have no clout, study and make it on your own your ass will be on 1st watch in 007 for years to come. No thanks.
I did my biz on my RDOs and freetime which allowed me to retire at age 49 and move to Costa Rica where I now run my business from down here and I live on the beach. And don't get me started on the horseshit excuse I hear everyone say, "I got young kids, or my kid is in college". LMAO my daughter is 8, here in 3rd grade and loves it here. Let your college kid figure it out and for younger officers start a IL 529 Plan now.
My advice is to start a business or do something else so you can leave at age 55 and have a backup plan. Guys there is so much opportunity out there. I now have 7 employees and earn almost $250,000K off my business PLUS my pension of $50K and now I'm learning to do day trading. I'm not bragging. I have 1040s to prove it.
It took me 10 years to get the business to become successful but now it's rockin'.
Stop planning video games between jobs and watching Netflix guys! Forget this job, the SGTs test. You can all do better.
(And Yes Dahill you know who this is)
They extended it last time also. Almost 6k took it last time. Already over 5knsigned up for this one.
Fellow patrol Sgt here. This Sgt hit the nail on the head:

It is a reflection of the overall lack of morale in the department...and rightfully so.
If your working in a good unit,or happy working the watch you want,in the district you want and don't want your life turned over sideways on midnight's supervising a bunch of out of control "speed racers," or "jerrys kids," why even bother! $12,000 a year more on pension added responsibility for what coppers do no thanks. Just look at what happened to SGT Franko who just approved jvd case report and you will think don't want the risk!

Well said sarge. Couldn’t agree with you more.

Nobody wants to be the next Sgt Franko. He got totally fucked for making sure a TRR was completed and that’s it. Total fucking bullshit.
With this joke of a department!?! Lol gfy

Wow you’re very full of yourself. You should have been a CPS teacher. All the qualities of a CTU member.
To me it wasn’t worth it. Took one test in the 90’s, was set to get promoted and lil richie pulled the test down after only ~440 promotions.
‘Not enough people of color,’ enter the merit system. After this was able to land a great spot. Long story short. I did 5 years in patrol, another 5 in a non-district unit, then 21 years in a great unit that landed me a take home car for 21 years. Never took another promotional exam.
Let me tell all the haters, I came in knowing nobody, worked hard, and lucked my way into spots. Yes, you need a hand up, it’s called networking. Mostly from what I learned, if you don’t f’up; do your job, the bosses need competent people to cover for their buddies that can’t or don’t do shit.
The biggest problems are 95% of the ‘merit’ people, they will hurt you because they are over their heads.
If the "Powers That Be" want you to be a Sergeant, you'll be a Sergeant.
No one seems to talk about the major benefit of getting promoted. A Sergeant’s pension is about $8-10,000 a year more than a P.O. A Lieutenant’s pension is that much more. If you take any care of yourself and with any luck you will live 20-25 years after you retire. That’s a boat load of money. If you’re smart enough to get promoted you should be smart enough to keep yourself out of the limelight or trouble.
No one can make you do stupid, illegal, or immoral shit whether you’re a P.O., a Sgt., or a Lt. The answer no matter who you are or what rank you are is to courteously ask that the fool telling you to do something to put it in writing and you’ll happily comply.
BOYCOTT THE SGTS TEST. Send the city a message that we’re sick and tired of being shit on at every turn.
You have to pay a fee to take a test for a spot that has already been allocated to someone with clout.
Guess a lot are taking a pass.
Who in their right mind would want to be the police you take your whole life into your hands for nothing and tons of disrespect from the public and politicians and are treated like dog shit by your merit superiors
I recall McCarthy's driver C.H. did not even pass the test was promoted"merit" then was "demoted" after H.R. caught....LMAO I think that was a"first"
The clouted need more time to memorize the answers.
why study if ass kissing is the fast track?
Abandon all hope!
They should just use the Bozoputer. Results would be the same, just cheaper.
Not the case.
There’s not enough diversity candidates signed up. And that includes a pool to choose the Management 30% levelers.
My CPS mathematics privilege calculator says the IL mandate may require a 30/50/50 ratio across the spectrum to fulfill the community needs. The 30% is for appearances to sifted down to 15-20%. The appearances applicants could currently be somewhere in the high 70’s.
I know 30/50/50 just don’t make no kind of sense, then it means you’re getting the sham.
Watch for the big late as always influx in applications with City ‘promise posters’ to show up in the Districts, lower the standards even more or by golly this exam is going to find it’s way into the trash bin along with the Contract and fast.
Don’t infuriate the Groot.
21st Century Movin’On fair and square.
Judging from these comments, depolicing is working well. Soros is pleased.
The Ruling Elite hosted a party the ither night to divvy up the spoils.
The playboy son of liberal billionaire George Soros hosted a dinner Monday in New York for former President Barack Obama and other prominent Democratic politicians to benefit redistricting the state.
Alexander Soros, 34, is set to inherit $24 billion and spent the summer of 2016 hosting lavish parties for celebrity athletes and models at a $72 million Hamptons summer rental, Daily Mail previously reported. His father has been tied to numerous left-wing efforts such as proposing race-based policies for schools and fighting President Donald Trump’s immigration agenda.
The 34-year-old hosted a party of a different kind Monday to benefit the National Democratic Redistricting Committee, complete with three featured guests — former Attorney General Eric Holder, former Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe and Obama.

This job sucks big hairy balls. Wearing a white shirt makes the balls bigger and hairier.
Get rid of the age cutoff. I need another side job
Approve a TRR, get fired. No thanks!
This Department have sunk and will continue to hit the very bottom. Just imagine the Officers taking this exam. Most have barely reached their 5th year on this job. Millennials. Who are inexperience, selfish, and know nothing about what they really signed up for. Most only care about how early can they duck and arrogant. Imagine these “kids” wearing white shirts and giving you an order? It’ll be a fucking disaster.
Don't always blame the new hires There's a lot of 10-15 year wonders on this job that are worthless pos And the white shirts! Please Most of them are terrible
Only 3800 have paid. People have figured out why bother. The city can't absorb the cost.

so what you're saying is I do have a chance hahaha oh great
Retiring in a few, fuck the test !!!!
It’s a corrupt process. Don’t bother. Nothing is legit anymore
Nobody should have signed up. We need leverage. We’re our own worst enemies.
FOP , time for the news media to be notified , where is federal oversight ,
not only is command staff over 50% merit, scored less than 80% on exams
now the lazy future merit are not interested in applying for the exam
Mayor LL doesn't want to be embarrassed by lack of interest by minority police officers , so deadline is extended
how can these future sergeants lead ,supervise when unable to meet a deadline to apply for a promotion
let's play a game , name any captain , command staff that never received a meritorious promotion
They should just use the Bozoputer. Results would be the same, just cheaper.
10/23/2019 11:06:00 AM
Sad, but true. Even so, I literally chuckled out loud. Thanks for the laugh.
I'm in retirement mode. Not interested in any bs merit fake test.
Why would I want to pay and actually study for a test that “merit” morons will be handed? I’ve watched far too many good patrol officers, detectives, sergeants etc get passed over for a merit spot that some connected mediocre hack has gotten on “merit.” Don’t get me wrong, some merits are actually good and hard working and got it on actual merit not clout. Even the stupidest brass realizes that you can’t have a complete organization of do nothing fools. You do need a few that will actually put some sweat equity into the job, but until the department fixes the merit selection process , I’m happy where I am.
Only 3800 signed up for the sergeant's exam is disturbing. Usually just about everyone on the job signed up. Some actually studied.
The public really doesn't know or care about the implications of that.
What the City, the Department and the public should be very concerned about is the dearth of applications for the Police Officer position. With the negative press continuously bashing the police, the indifference the City has towards the police with more 2 years without a contract and a city administration that openly loathes the police, one would have to be either soft as whipped puppy shit, desperate for a job or clouted and know that they will be taken care of.
Less than 1,000? How many took the last test? I guess the days of 20,000 + applications are gone. Sure, the test is more frequent, but that still doesn't cover the fact that the job of Chicago Police Officer is an unwanted job.
only in Chicago will they allow part one multiple choice to be a pass/fail test
those that study , one or two right answers could put you 100's ahead of others
in chitcago , a 60% might be considered passing for a person of color
look at command staff , bet most could not pass a sergeant exam

If you want to take the exam, take it.
If you don't want to take the exam, don't take it.
If you're not sure if you want to be a sergeant, take it and you can waive the promotion if you make it.
Its not that complicated. Nothing is going to change the way things are right now.
People are finally waking up. The promotional testing is "pre-determined" and the whole process a sham. Why waste your time when you have no chance. Its all for the connected.
LLshouldhave1/2 the exempts take sergeant test , she will be shocked when 5 year blue shirts out score them
and only exempts that were meritoriously promoted
publish scores it would be hilarious
then let them take oral and put it on Chicago tv channels for all to watch
