New York is done. Now it’s the west coast. These clowns will come in, make money, bring in their friends, screw CPD up even more, then leave. Wait until you have to take the stupid 4 hour breathing class next year. It’s in development right now, some asshat from L.A. is using CPD for her thesis.
We've been compelled to complete surveys for outside entities and we don't doubt that some person used them to write a doctoral thesis of some sort. For that reason, we always answer these things as poorly and sarcastically as possible. If we don't have to use our PC number to log in.....well, let your imagination run wild.
We're also hearing rumblings of some sort of "pursuit training" that's on someone's desk in an effort to reduce or even eliminate city liability for chases that go bad. In that case, the blog and its readers have been light years ahead of the curve telling everyone to knock it off, because guess who is going to paying out of pocket if the city can show an officer disregarded training?

There should be training on how to mentally separate yourself from this job. Far too many use this job as their identity, and the practice of getting CPD tattoos, car decals, t-shirts off duty, etc. should be discouraged. Training should also include teaching officers not to tell war stories, lie to citizens when asked what they do for work, to properly plan for retirement, and how to avoid all of the things that stress coppers out-the media, politics, etc
For one, I don't think any outsider from a large city can screw up CPD anymore then it is. The problem is not with the working men/women of the department, but the politics and cronyism., LA and NY have been ahead of Chicago for decades and there is no shame to admit that. As far as liability for going outside of your training, I believe that to be something that can come up in any law suit today. The blood starts getting hot and running and the office does not want to end pursuit. If he continues knowing that his training says do not and against orders and someone is hurt or killed, yes, he can be held personally liable for damages. The wise thing is what goes on in the suburbs; only chase for armed felony and maybe not even for that. Let the clowns go.

It is good to hear the perspective of large outside police departments. The NYPD and LAPD have great reputations and I think it is great that the CPD adopt some of their policies, not only in policing, but in personnel policies, promotions, rank structure, etc. It can't get any worse then it is now in CPD, we are ripe with politics.

If you have ever driven around LA, you would understand why they need helos . The city is really spread out with many hilly and remote areas.

That was a retired police officer that developed classes on how to breathe. He is still at the academy teaching very off the wall classes to recruits.

Define what does not matter and how do you determine what does matter.
If you are compelled to complete a survey, that in no way obligates you to be as accurate as possible. To the people using you for a guinea pig, bad data is worse than no data. Enough bad data and they will stop compelling people.
It’s a dissertation for a doctoral degree. A thesis is for a master’s degree.
And it’s a GED for our last Superintendent.
With all this horse shit coming down the pike it should be amusing listening to citizens complaints about their cars being stolen and their it is. Go gettem office. Charlie Horse .... lol Or Mister Ed. Cranky Mister Ed would have been a much better sup than Horse-Chuck. Regarding the chases I understand it they are lead only when they are in tracking mode. Police on the ground still chase out there. You also have news helicopters reporting the chase as it happens. But it's tough listening to the dizzy commentary most of the time. Especially if it's a female reporter in the copter. So many chases from Commiefornia on youtube. Just let them all go, remember it's Utopia out there.

Remember you saw it here first.... strong possibility some district commanders will be replaced by civilian district managers. Outsiders with no Chicago connections will be brought in to add a "push" at the district level. No sworn insider could/would make changes desired by the mayor.

The title does not have to be changed. A district commander does not have to be sworn personnel.
