Instead of budgeting $4.85 million for the annual aldermanic expense allowance, the city will spend $6.1 million — about a 26% increase. The additional $1.25 million will come from unspecified spending cuts and revenue increases, officials said, as the City Council’s Budget Committee approved the mayor’s $11.65 billion spending plan.
We've lived here well in excess of four decades and we can tell you with 100% accuracy that when anyone in city government says "revenue increases," check your wallet. Because they have no fucking idea where the money is going to come from. The west side isn't going to start buying city stickers, the south side isn't going to start paying parking tickets at a higher rate, and god only knows how many north side people are going to put their houses on the market next year.
And if you read the linked article, Groot's "hiring freeze" is obviously a joke with more than a few six-figure starting salaries included in her budget.

As A subscriber to the CHICAGO TRIBUNE I'm allowed to make comments on their FACEBOOK page when they post articles like the ones about "forgiveness" of these tickets and fee's.
The city will never be able to determine your ability to pay without someones income statistics. Will they demand W2 forms? Federal tax forms? Proof that you're on welfare?
How about retired city workers on a fixed income?
Will they need to create an entire department dedicated to determining someones ability to pay their fee's and fines?
Will the clouted get to take advantage with a phone call?
After all if there's no penalty for doing the wrong thing, why do the right thing?
Or are these waivers to be based solely on geographical data, which of course would be blatantly racist?

Each Alderman already receives 1.2 million dollars to do with as they please. And now they get an increase of 25 thousand on top of the 1.2 million. This city is run by the lunatics. If I were a betting man (oh hell, I AM a betting man), I’d throw odds on Charles Schwab landing that loot. As long as they manage to pull decent returns to keep our pension purse full it’s all good.
I as a citizen who gets military pension and officers on or retired cannot and do not want these assholes to get a 26% increase. What the fuck do they really do? Tear up roads and build shit when told to by those higher up. It seems to me their job is to inconvenience the citizenry rather than actually do stuff that might help the city and not the puppet masters. Fuck 'em all.

Aldermanic offices do not need any more funding increases especially for staff. In all the years I’ve lived in the 11th Ward, the service has never been so poor. Our entire block considers their office to be poorly staffed with inexperienced workers and little to no responsive action on items brought to their attention. No follow up to see if concerns were addressed and residents have to make numerous requests by phone or in person to follow up on the same complaint. No response from 311 reports either. So no more money for them until they start doing their jobs.

011 has only about 60,000 people while 008 has about 250,000 population.
Also, using comparable ten most populous major U.S. cities, Chicago should have no more that seventeen (17) aldermen/wards.
