Merry Christmas Little Girl!
- In the predawn hours of Christmas morning, a burst of gunfire on Chicago’s Southwest Side disrupted a family’s holiday celebration and left a 7-year-old girl fighting for her life.
The child was watching television in the living room of a multifamily building just after 1:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 3500 block of South Washtenaw Avenue when gunshots rang out, according to Chicago police.
Outside the dwelling, a 38-year-old man, who police said was the apparent target of the shooting, was hit in leg. An errant bullet flew through a window of the home, tore through a couch and hit the girl in the abdomen.
No word on where the ACLU wants to run the post-shooting mission.

I was reading a story about Gov Pritzker spending $100's of millions paying for state projects and renovations which is really admirable.My question is why can't the city appeal to his philanthropy and others in his tax bracket to try and plug our pension crisis? In the not so distant future, possibly by 2029 a massive crisis of failed pensions for emergency responders will pack a wallup to the city and cause a disaster of people losing their property. Personally I am a short timer and if I have a sense the pensions are more stable would be willing to not be as frugal as I currently am. It could provide a boom in spending for the city and state and just be a drop in the bucket for some of the wealthiest families in the world.

You are assuming way too much that just by her being up super late, on Christmas eve, that it's evidence of bad parenting. None of the family was involved with the assailants. The family was inside their home while the child sat in her living room. So who's to say that if that little girl was sleeping in her bed that a stray bullet couldn't hit her. Would you say that maybe if the parents had installed bullet proof windows this wouldn't have happened, and because they don't have bullet proof windows, it's bad parenting.

As stated: The poor parenting is present in the lives of the shooter(s) that over run the community. Do you suppose all these peoples (or folks) causing the shootings and general mayhem in the hood had doting, two parent families with appropriate rules and discipline in place as children?
But yes, I would also agree that a small child allowed up at 1:30am watching television regardless of the night is not to be held as the epitome of responsible child rearing. Not that anyone said her parents caused this, quite obviously not, but such lax oversight of a child doesn’t bode well for her future.
