We have got to find this money tree that all Chicago mayors seem to have access to:
- Thousands of Chicagoans saved more than $11.5 million by taking advantage of new city sticker amnesty and debt relief programs during the first three months of the initiative, Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s office said Tuesday.
The city launched the debt forgiveness program for sticker scofflaws in October, allowing residents who’d racked up hefty late fees to buy a new city sticker without being hit with the back charges.
Nearly 9,000 drivers did just that to get into compliance, a ninefold increase over the previous year, according to the mayor’s office. In all, almost 11,400 residents were absolved of more than $11.5 million in outstanding ticket debt.
So there's an $11 million shortfall. Here's the thing - if we understand city finances (and we have a bit of experience here) that money has already been spent. We're serious.
The city bases all sorts of budget figures on "anticipated" revenue and spends as if it's already been collected. Trying doing that at home with your checkbook and see how fast the bank is knocking on your door, calling the sheriff and having you evicted. But here's Groot, canceling $11 million like it was nothing at all.....and in a way, we guess it actually is nothing at all.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot on Tuesday submitted a letter to the U.S. State Department that gave consent to refugee resettlement in Chicago.
The letter was submitted in accordance with federal Executive Order 13888, which declares that refuges may only be resettled in jurisdictions where state and local governments have provided their consent.

Every time I go to the racetrack or casino I wish they would give me amnesty or forgive my expectations of my return on investments.
The city never had the 11 million, so they really didn’t lose anything. The mayors trickery brought in money that otherwise probably wouldn’t have been brought in. People are just sick and tired of getting fucked and took advantage of the city’s weakness. But, they ain’t see nothing yet.

Let's see how that impacts the budget at the end of the year. By the way, if the water bill is not being paid, then the garbage fee is also not paid as it is added to the water bill. Is getting the trash picked up also a fundamental right for every citizen.

My son works in Finance and they are all amazed at how no one is concerned with where the money comes from or how

Just a few days ago there was a stoppage of fuel deliveries to city pumps! Until city made emergency fuel purchase!
They thought the city could make it through the new year without buy more gas.
They calculated wrong and pumps were going dry over past weekend.
So city bought gas at higher prices just to keep things rolling!
They blamed it on warmer weather? Gas evaporates faste?
Next will be the repairs to city vehicles and buildings watch how this becomes an issue.

Last week Taxwinkle announced that the county would level a new 2% tax on upcoming legal marijuana sales

There are No consequences for improper actions. Coppers look at discipline AND tickets, late fees, etc for recently expired city sticker or plate sticker. Many, it seems, skate until caught, pleas poor and only have to pay the required fee. Don’t even get me started for no consequences for suspended DLs, no insurance, missing plates.

I've had my home in Chicago for over 32 years I have never been late with my water bill. For some reason my bill was delivered late or stuck in my drop box mail shoot. I immediately sent in the check about a week after the due date. The next day I was sent a letter from the city demanding payment or my water would be shut off. Its getting harder and harder to stay.

Haven’t written a parker, mover or ANOV in the last 6 months. No one even confronted me about. LT’s and Sargents do not care. Supervisor openly told me he does not care if officers come in with zeros. Seems like he saw the writing on the wall, if city refuses to enforce the rules why should we even bother. Officers have no authority just show up for 9 hours and go home. Sad.

When was the last time you were in traffic court? A lot of the judges will offer a $0 fine but hit them up for mandatory court costs and fees, which are $215-235 now.
Weed in 2020 will bring in some new income to the City of Chicago!

Retired last year. Have bought my last City Sticker and will not pay my next water bill. By my calculations, based on a two vehicle residence and the current water/garbage tax prices, I'll save $2000. next year. That, combined with the $2000. that Trump refunded me, I just might buy some coats and drop them off at St. Sabina! WTF am I thinking? I'll just go steal the coats at Macy's; drop them at Sabina and take the charitable tax donation from Trump. I might MAKE money on this!

most weed consumed, in states where recreational use is legal, comes from illegal sources. Tax revenue is not what what was promised. In California, the northern part of the state is remote and a whole lot of pot is grown there, for exportation. Legalizing this stuff , some day, will be considered a failed social experiment. So, the progressives want the kids to be dumb and stoned; they legaiize pot and close as many of the charter schools as they can leaving the education up to the teacher's

"Legitimate medical marijuana users"? How many of these are there? Most of this class of user are just pot smokers with a medical problem that will not be helped by using weed, let alone smoking it. It was just an excuse to get the camel's nose under the tent, and it worked. There is relative little scientific evidence out there that THC has substantial medical value. In California, long before it was legal recreational, the pot shops had doctors sitting at a desk writing prescriptions for just about any condition. The same in Illinois.
The next tax levied onto Chicago taxpayers will be the ‘Retailer Theft Collection.’ To prevent a mass exodus of corporations, Chicago’s will ‘spilt the bill’ and pay a percentage of all smash-n-grabs, below $1,000 shoplifting of designer purses, rack of nice winter coats, shirts, pants, cellphones, stolen boxes of candy bars for the candy kids, half eaten food left on grocery store shelves...the ‘people’ can’t pay, so you all gotta help them pay!
If you can afford a car, you can afford to pay for your tickets! As a youth, I used to take the Brown Line into the city. The tracks would pass over Cabrini Green, which had a huge parking lot. I was always amazed that so many folks on government assistance could afford cars!

In the future where will one be able to escape this rubbish, "In 2019, legislators in several states (Florida, Kansas, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, and Texas) introduced legislation to provide driver’s licenses to undocumented residents. And the funny part is they think just because the illegal has a license they will have insurance too and that it will reduce hit and run accidents. Just received my two Chicago vehicle stickers in the mail today, that was fast, took only 5 days !
This spring my car was rear-ended by a truck in Florida and after limping home was in the shop for nearly a month. While it was in the shop the city sticker expired, I had bought a new one but couldn't put it on the car while it was in the shop. When it was finally fixed I picked it up and immediately met some friends for dinner in Wrigleyville, and sure enough I got a ticket for an expired sticker since I hadn't had a chance to put the new one on yet. I appealed the $200 ticket, showing proof that I had purchased the new sticker before the old one expired. My appeal was rejected so I spent nearly $400 on city stickers this year. I feel like such a sucker now for actually doing the right thing when so many blow it off and get rewarded. This city sucks. And no I never voted for anyone who wins elections here.
so now what is the punishment for a CPD sworn member with no city sticker?

When you have an MD/PhD like many of the cancer docs who have prescribed medical marijuana, then you can shoot your mouth off about your alleged scientific studies. Of course there are abuses, but many are legitimate.

Chances of making money on these guys is remote since going through the court system is insanely expensive. The city may well have come out ahead financially.

if the experience of the states that have legalized recreational use of weed are any indication, the increased tax income will not come close to the democrats expectations. 2020 will bring an increase in homeless people coming here to smoke weed ( at least in good weather), traffic accidents and general plain old annoyance as people will smoke this stuff out in the open and on CTA trains ( they do this already with no legal consequence). And, legal weed in this state will do little to slow down or stop the illegal street sales. Lets not even mention the damage it will do to young people. It is far worse then alcohol and the long term effects are not yet known. Yes, the teacher's union and out progressive democrats have their plan in effect; keep the kids dumb and stoned by legalizing marijuana and banning charter schools and school vouchers'

I think your reasoning is a little warped. Yes, keep vets high and if you have cancer, who cares? give them what they want. But, there is little scientific evidence that smoking weed is helpful to any but a few. The THC in weed has long been available in pill form. But, that is not the point, the liberals want to be able to smoke this stuff. And, yes, Illinois will have a pot shortage for the near future as many will travel to this state to purchase. Having an MD or PHD after your name is no guarantee of knowing what the hell you are doing. These folks are primarily responsible for the Opiod addiction mess. Medical weed has long been abused.
My old car has been sitting in the garage unlicensed and without a city sticker for a few years. (Fluids get changed and she might get a few miles in here or there, but let's just pretend she's been parked a good long while.)
So, I can just go buy a city sticker today and I'm all good with the City of Chicago? Cool. I guess I'll have to wait a minute til Pritzker does a statewide renewal amnesty, but I'm a few hundred dollars ahead of the game already.
