Protecting Weed

So the police are being used to provide "free" security to a private enterprise?
  • Chicago police officers will be maintaining a “heightened awareness” of the city’s pot shops when the drug is legalized Wednesday , but they won’t be looking to ticket revelers for getting high outside.

[...] Though the state legalization law prohibits individuals from sparking up in public, Chicago police officers have been directed to simply inform offenders of the new rules when they take effect instead of taking punitive actions. [Goggle-me] noted that officers are instead “interested in violence.”

Beat cops and narcotics officers will be on the lookout for individuals looking to rob dispensary patrons braving long lines to get their first taste of legal pot. Those customers make “attractive street robbery targets” because they’ll likely be carrying large amounts of weed and money near the largely cash-only businesses....
And once the weed shops are secure, guess who will feel the wrath of the government? If you guessed "the competition," give yourself a pat on the back:
  • In the upcoming weeks and months, [Google-deez-nuts] said, enforcement will shift to street-level dealers and gangs aiming to undercut the hefty dispensary prices. An eighth of an ounce of medical marijuana, subject to a 1% state pharmaceutical tax, typically costs around $60 at Illinois dispensaries. That price will be substantially higher for recreational users, who will soon face state taxes between 10% and 25% for pot products.

Chicagoans can currently find an eighth of high-quality cannabis for as cheap as $30 on the street, according to Budzu, a website that aggregates weed prices.

“Gangs are a business, they’re on top of these types of things,” [Gargle-deez] said, adding that the push to offer the most competitive pot prices could potentially lead to a “turf battle.” “It’s a supply and demand thing.”
Government hates competition.

Sorry, but I’m not stepping up illegal weed enforcement just to protect the city governments cash cow.
I’m not a goon enforcer in the drug business, that they can sick on the competition.

I haven’t given a fuck about weed in many years, much like the County Courts haven’t either.
Now I’m supposed to care because the city wants tax money?

Protect the New Legal Dealers because their taxes pay your salary.

Go after the outlaw dealers because your Government doesn't want the competition.
The Gov needs you to put these people out of business and protect its income stream.

Has anyone convinced our illustrious States Attorney to actually charge the dealers you bring in?
Did they remind her that her salary is also being paid by the now legalized drug pushers?

Just wait until they legalize prostitution too.
They will task you with chasing down the run away whores for the pimps and madams.

I wonder if these will end up being "gateway businesses", leading people to try pot who wouldn't have normally, who will then seek out cheaper alternative sources. More pot users, more revenue for the state, and more overall crime. Perversely, a win-win situation for everybody, except maybe the victims of crime, who nobody seems to care about anyway.

Weed's been $30/ 1/8th for decades... Friggin $60 and then taxes on top of that? Who in their right might wouldn't just go to the untaxed Dude, Inc. rep?

California/LA screwed up their legal businesses by taxing the shit out of the tax, with a tax on the tax... so criminals find abandoned storefronts, take them over, decorate to look like a legal dispensary, and start selling - tax free...

The CaliforniaImbeciles don't try to evict or arrest, they just turn off the power to the building. So the criminals then install generators and they're back in business...

You'd think that Illinois would have looked at that and said "hmmm, maybe we ought to keep the tax just the regular sales tax and reap the benefits"... but you know illinois fat-envelope spendthrifts...

This is gonna be a clusterfuck of epic proportions

Standby.
Out here in kalyfornia there are 3600 or so dispensaries determined by the politburo's own committee. Committee reports that 968 said dispensaries are legitimately legal.

Here is what it is after a year or two of this shit. The taxes are so onerous that illegal operations blossom under the protection.

Next up: We need more tax from straight taxpayers to clamp down on the illegal pot shops. You'll see, soon.

What use is legalizing it when you tax it to death and create a functioning black market? That's what legalization advocates argued--that the black market/violence would disappear. Guess what? No it won't and the gov't is still going to go after sellers on the street corner. If they are not demonized as drug dealers they will be demonized for not paying the pot tax. Doing a full 360 again.

Most of Illinois did not want pot legal, democrats wanted it, to have another revune stream to steal from, they dont care how much pot will harm the community or generations of kids to come, who will be thinking its perfectly ok to smoke because its legal and endorsed by the govt. Meanwhile the police are now pretty much paid to do drug dealer security for the friends of democrats instead of doing drug enforcement as the laws were written to keep our residents safe, but who are we kidding what court prosecutes crime anymore in this county, and this is exactly why people are fleeing Illinois by the thousands. Stop voting for democrats!

I don’t smoke nor do I plan to. I’m just an observer as to how Illinois will screw this up just like other states who legalized it. I read recently that California expected $1b in weed tax revenue (and spent that amount) but only raised $288m, which will logically cause them to raise taxes.

The black market will produce better products and lower prices because that’s the market at work. Friends in states who have legal weed still buy from the black market. It’s like governments never learn. And instead of policing, you’ll now be revenue enforcement officers.

So the Illinois government will create a whole new category of customer for the street vendors. The customer will go to where the prices are in their favor. A year from now after the hype of weed dies down the Mayor will be wondering where all that windfall money went. Gangs getting stronger and much more bold in defending and increasing their turf. Police handcuffed from doing anything about the increase in violence, what could go wrong. Liberal fools will blame guns and Trump for all the new problems legal weed causes. But you will just keep electing these Democratic thieves and wonder how and why things have gotten so bad. As an ex Chicago resident this is really fun to watch from afar. So we are starting another "War on Drugs" by protecting legally State sanctioned dope vs. much cheaper street dope. The Imp Mayor wants us to be her first line of defense to protect the STATE/City's dope cash cow from being undercut by our local dope slingers. Suddenly the police are an important commodity. Fred (I am in charge) Waller and Charlie (I am on vacation) Beck will want "heads", so its back to nickel and dime bag arrests. But what about the consumer-the local customers, the suburban customers, and regular users.

These are well established links between the dope slinger and their customers. Good product, its cheaper, reliable sources, established drug distribution networks, 24/7 operation, and no waiting. Business will be brisk. The Mexican Drug Cartels will not be under cut by Fat Boy in Springfield or the little old lady on the 5th floor of Shitty Hall.

The Imp desperately wants the police to be her enforcement arm and protect her cash cow. She needs us, wants us and expects us to do her bidding and be her new found friend in the legalized dope business. You have disparaged the police department on your first day in office and haven't stopped. Don't hold your breathe on this one. You wanted this and now you own it. Before you come looking for help from us let's talk "kangaroo courts", like COPA, the vindictive Police Board, poor police leadership, inconsistent and confusing polices, directives and regulations. Lastly, where is our new contract!

Mayor, we don't believe you, we don't trust you and we have no confidence in you. You wanted the dope tax and now you and Fat Boy have it. Enjoy the competition for dope dollars cuz you in da dope business with Dude, Inc., corner hustlers and the Cartels. Once again your ass is showing on this one.

Yes, it applies to police officers. In fact the BATFE form 4473 to buy a gun states:

Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance? Warning: The use or possession of marijuana remains unlawful under Federal law regardless of whether it has been legalized or decriminalized for medicinal or recreational purposes in the state where you reside.

Oh Yeah...."No fighting over Medical Marijuana!"...

All seriousness aside folks....This city is going to be dangerous for a while as people not used to smoking a little weed now combined with alcohol adjust. I intend to park my vehicle in the garage at night until this blows over...It remains to be seen if the gangs will retaliate against legal MJ stores. But in this city anything is possible. On the other hand, it sounds like a great opportunity for side jobs. I don't strap on, off duty for less then 25 an hour cash.

Weed's been $30/ 1/8th for decades... Friggin $60 and then taxes on top of that? Who in their right might wouldn't just go to the untaxed Dude, Inc. rep?

The weed you buy at dispensaries nowadays is way stronger than what you were buying decades ago. Stronger means an eighth will last longer. It's also pesticide free and no amateur chemists have added anything to it that's harmful. Every dispensary I've been to has armed security there so you're pretty safe buying there. Anyone going to the shitty ghetto and dealing with "Dude Inc" as you put it deserves what they get. Save a few bucks and possibly get robbed, raped, murdered or poisoned by garbage quality shit.

60 bucks for an 8th of an oz? Holy shit! Back in the day 1oz. was $15. Inflation I guess. Glad I gave that shit up about 1975 when I figured out that if I wanted to be tired and hungry, a days work would do the same thing without the short term memory loss.

12/31/2019 08:09:00 AM
..............................................
Early/mid 60's it was $10 and was reeferred {sic} to as a "can" because Prince Albert tobacco, sold in a tin can, was one ounce.

People cant use the violent streets with the
murderous criminals , people are getting killed in their homes in Chicago and Our much needed and appreciated Overworked Police Officers are expected to nurture and cater to drug dealer life.Did all u politicians send your bodyguards and weapons to play referees for the drug dealers?Souless and evil .Let's fire half ,no all the useless aldermen alderwomen so when taxpayers have to reimburse the drug dealers for their loses we could use that waste of money.Where is the intelligence? Does this include P.O.'s??

“Pursuant to both State and Federal law, a person who is addicted to or a habitual user of narcotics is not permitted to possess or use firearms," the statement said. "Accordingly, the ISP will revoke FOID cards where it is demonstrated that an individual is addicted to or is a habitual user of cannabis. The ISP would also revoke or deny the FOID cards of those who violate certain provisions of the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act.”

https://www.thecentersquare.com/illinois/with-recreational-cannabis-days-away-questions-remain-for-illinois-gun/article_a271cde2-25d9-11ea-ae2d-23a6b9c3f662.html

12/31/2019 12:52:00 AM

-------------------------------------------

Yes, it applies to police officers. In fact the BATFE form 4473 to buy a gun states:

Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance? Warning: The use or possession of marijuana remains unlawful under Federal law regardless of whether it has been legalized or decriminalized for medicinal or recreational purposes in the state where you reside.

12/31/2019 02:32:00 PM
Although the 4473 asks "Are you an unlawful user of...." The Illinois law legalizing weed also say that using cannabis will not categorize you as an unlawful user. This will set up a battle between the state and federal government to determine unlawful user. The ISP has also recently said they will not use recreational weed as a dis-qualifier for FOID, but the registered medicinal user will be in a different position. And since we are on the subject, the new order will add working at a cannabis dispensary as a restricted work location for CPD. I expect county sheriffs to take those spots.

What ever happened to that Chicago casino? Not a word lately which means the boys in the back room are devising a plan to steal any and all profits. Once the deals are all done big push and a lot of hype to get it opened very quickly. Just like the new weed hype, first year gangbusters. Year two only people in casino are the corner weed sellers blowing their windfall cash from all the new customers legal weed brought them. Now what, only way to balance budget is more a lot tax increases and legalizing prostitution. Nice city, burnout homeless urban camping in Maggie Daly park, Mag Mile now a tourist gauntlet, section 8 housing in EVERY neighborhood including any new high rise being built along lakefront. What could go wrong. That's the good news if Trump reelected, if a Democrat wins no telling how bad things will get very quickly. Because if a Democrat wins they will have also get complete control of Senate and House. Sorry for the doom and gloom but thought you might want to see what could happen if you don't get politically active and STOP THE DEMOCRATS IN THEir TRACKS STARTING WITH WORKING TO INSURE KIM LOSES NEXT ELECTION.

Willing to bet the corner boys will be setting up shop real close to all the new Legal weed stores. Will be stopping those coming and going. Then how long before Amazon decides they want a slice of the weed pie. There goes all those already spent tax dollars. Watcha gonna do then Lori, cut spending or raise taxes?

You know whats sad? You join the service at 18yo and give it up, then become a cop and still can't smoke it, finally get into your '60s and retirement, they make it legal, and then you find out now you can't stand the stuff.

Thats pretty fucking sad. So getting high went the way of the 8 track, the '66 mustang, the hair down to your shoulders, and the 12 hard on's a day. Its all over.

Department orders say you can't work in liquor stores, but WEED stores? NO ORDER EXISTS. FOP needs to push for POs to get some of this weed green. Don't let the state police take it all! Doubtful that legal weed will put even the slightest dent to illegal sales.

Something that has probably been going on all along, since medical use was legalized, is another large bump in turning medical patients into dope dealers is all, since there is a difference in prices between medical weed and recreational weed. Any savings will be a plus to those that want to get high and buy that shit.

And any one of them standing on a street corner, or wherever will now be pretty much immune to even touch by LEO's. Telling you, "Hey Mang, I just bought this down at the dispensary, this is my own stash homes"!

All in all, Chicago is a city that needs to be flushed right down a toilet. Thank politicians.
The unseen dangers for the future have yet to rear their ugly heads.

The only good that can come from this is the fact that the $$ wont be going to some third world cartel in support of domestic terrorism in the US.
Illegal sales will continue until the price meets the street level. It's the Ferengi law of the continuum of commerce. Supply and Demand.

Cash Dummy.....Do the Math. And if anybody is hiring OD coppers at our OT rate, then sign me up! To make court time regularly You have to make arrests. And we are being fetal.

And BTW.....Don't be so naïve. You know the connected Merit club few will have all the gigs running security like the OD detail at Navy Pier/McCormick place back in the day??? I'll bet the anointing's have been made already, and those bosses are getting rich hiring coppers at 15 an hour. This the city that works btw...I wouldn't be a bit surprised if an Alderman or two has a piece of the pie. Patronage is far from over in this cesspool.

From the Sun-Times...teacher waitingfor weed

"One customer, a teacher who asked to remain anonymous, said she had been waiting in line for almost 30 minutes. NuMed was her third stop after being turned away at two other dispensaries where the lines were too long.

"It's disappointing but to be expected," she said before asking others in line if they knew any other nearby dispensaries open late."

Too weird not to relate.

My dad was born in 1910, and no, that is not a typo, but where he lived as a baby, was in a second floor apartment of a four flat. The same apartment where I, as a high school student in the early 60's, bought my reefer from an older, stone cold junkie.

Very weird, indeed.

We are making arrests and will prosecute in Wisconsin.

ALSO -- be aware of Wisconsin traffic law. ANY detectable trace of delta-9-THC in your system is operating with a restricted controlled substance which is the same as a DUI. And state law prohibits plea bargaining plus there is NO "supervision."
