Tourists Disappearing?

  • Chicago Trolley & Double Decker Co., which carried thousands of sightseeing tourists through the city and played a role in several citywide celebrations, will offer its last ride Dec. 31.

Coach USA, the Paramus, N.J.-based transportation service company that owns the fleet of San Francisco-style trolleys, said it will cease operations of both the trolley business and the Indiana Airport SuperSaver business. The trolleys have operated in the city for more than 25 years.

Sean Hughes, Coach USA North America director of corporate affairs, said it was a “business decision” to shutter the trolley and airport transportation service. Hughes declined to comment further.
"...business decision..." and declining to comment further?

That means only one thing to any thinking person. Fewer tourists. A lot fewer tourists....and companies don't usually throw good money after bad.

Hmmmm, this sounds familiar.
Oh yea, I pointed this out in a comment the day of the article.
Thanks SCC for picking up on it.

Way to go Rahm and Goot! Terrorize tourists and those damn racists stop coming? Now, hurry up and tell your government subsidized voters what else they don't have to pay for. Free ride on everything already and then, park where you want, don't pay the ticket. Don't pay your water bill and luxuriate in free water. Turn on all the lights in the apartment because, they can't shut your lights off, you're entitled to it for free. Then, turn up that heat baby! You know you don't like that cold weather. Crank that thermostat up to 90 degrees and don't worry, let the kids run around bare foot and in a tee shirt in February, Groot won't let Peoples Gas shut you off. Life is good! Not so good for the taxpayers that will have to make up the difference, but, screw 'em! They owe you reparations for past injustices to someone or other.

Huh? Whut?

You mean to say that all the bluster and ballyhoo
by Rahm al-Ghoul about "50+ MILLION TOURISTS"
visiting Chicago and pumping "BILLIONS OF DOLLARS"
into Chicago's economy was a disingenuous folklore
aka BULLSHIT?

Would the decision to close have anything to with the ordinance for security to be on the tour buses? Just asking.

How can this be? Rham, Lori... Over & over again we hear about Chicago’s tourism #’s are up, & up! Every year. Keeps going up. Why would a tourist industry company, of all companies, leave then? Maybe SCC & all its great readers & commenters have been right all along. This city is going down a spiral. I’m not quite sure Detroit. But definitely a rich getting richer & poor getting poorer city with the middle class being eviscerated. Thanks to a Democrat utopia. Look at the State of California, San Francisco, LA homeless, Seattle, on & on.

Quite simple, if a business makes money it will stay in business. No one closes a profitable business. Less tourists, in addition to tourists being more keen to the potential risks of going out and sight seeing, means less business. Sight seeing in Chicago hasn't changed much lately either. Don't get me wrong, we have a very nice historical downtown, but it's architecture is very outdated. Our beaches are disgusting, our parks are nothing special. The highlight of our city is a fucking giant metal bean. There's no modern touch. Once you've seen it, you never have to see it again. But who'd expect anything less from a city where improvement can't take place until everyone agrees who's pockets are going to get lined.

It could also mean that he didn't kick the required donation into someone's honey pot and was subsequently taxed to death. The cabal of criminals who are running this government make the mafia look like a girl scout troop.

I think it was the idea of needing security on your busses, more than the actual cost, that put them over the edge.

With all this going on mini suburban companies are relocating into the downtown area the young yuppie millennials want this I don’t want to drive they wanna have that urban experience, until one of them is shot killed stabbed eating then they said we got to get out of here. They elected a Democrat who are everything wrong with the country definitely the city state and county what do you think it’s the most corrupt in the entire country think about that the liberal publications are even saying that.

If news reports correct they paid a couple hundred million for a company to shut it down? Sounds like a funny business decision to me. What's going on other than the cost of doing business in Chicago was no longer possible given recent gas hike, new taxes and of course all the under the table payments necessary to do business in city. You know pay offs to multiple inspectors, license people, cop on the beat for preferred parking and of course the big one, any Aldermen on any and all bus routes. Gonna take their busses and run, maybe an illegal ferry service from border towns to sanctuary cities.

People are beginning to figure things out and thinking for themselves. Our politicians are happy that under 500 people were killed in Chicago, like that's some great achievement. And whose doing the shooting and killing, dude. Still, it will never be admitted that there are certain people in Chicago who will kill you for your iphone or your car, and they will only blame the victim.

A friend that used work in the Chicago Cultural Center told me last year that the number of tourists counted as visiting Chicago were as corrupt as CPDs crime stats. Allegedly, a person who stays at a hotel for 3 nights is considered 3 visitors; all weekend metra and CTA cards swiped in the central business district are considered 1 visitor each. Etc and Etc. That's how Chicago has several million tourists each year.

Why would losing tourists because the city is losing residents make sense? It doesn’t. Nobody believes the report that in 2018 there were more tourists coming to Chicago than ever before and 2019 report isn’t in
I visited Hawaii this year and I can tell you I didn’t check to see which cities had declining populations and I’m sure when tourists visit Paris, London or even Orlando they don’t check the city’s population

Ever think that Uber or Lyft might have anything to do with it I spent time on the near north and Uber is the way to go. Why would anyone take a bus to O'Hara when you can call Uber and have them pick you up in a few minutes, travel in style and usually pay less. Go to dinner with 4 people, order an Uber, be picked by a Navigator. Cabs are thing of the past so are the airport express. Leave when you want not when they want or are scheduled. There are many reasons why they closed

Chicago area has 100,000 hotel rooms. If each hotel was 100% full for 365 days that calculateshe to 36 million room notes. Vast majority of hotels not even close to sold out 365 nites a year. Not even close to 75% 365. So I am guessing the claimed 57 million are sleeping in their cars or in city parks as urban campers. Figures lie and liars figure. So no wonder the tourist bus company closed. Those urban campers are on a budget no money for bus tours.

Who needs security on a tourist bus. Just do like the CTA and post no firearms or robberies allowed. That should do it, works so well for the CTA. Their buses and El cars and platforms are the safest places in the city. Must be some other reason for them pulling out, what ever could it be. Business decision, my ass they just got tired of lining the political pockets to do business in Chicago. The Chicago away kills another business putting how many out of work?

Fast forward 5 years. What will city look Like? Thriving lakefront high rises Bryn Mar to Hyde Park and West about 15 blocks along that line north to south. The rest of city has been turned into a jungle by mandatory SECTION 8 HOUSING IN EVERY NEIGHBORHOOD. Gangel affiliations now making what used to be SAFE neighborhoodand war zones. Housing values plummeting 5-10% per year. Lots of homeowners so upside down on mortgages better to just walk away. Collar suburbs facing same problems as Springfield forces Section 8 housing on them as well. Cook County and CPS and city file for bankruptcy. Sad to see the downfall of the beautiful city I grew up in happen. But almost 100 years of Democratic rule have brought it to its knees.

I've been telling normal people to not go to shitcago for years and they've looked at me strangely, but now I guess more people are becoming more aware of the urban "teen" problem that's out there. Same with the harbor tourist development in baltimore. Same with a lot of urban projects that were paid for by taxpayers in an effort to get people to central city areas and spend cash. People don't want to feel like they are prey.

I guess their gaslighting of the population is working less and less....

Any statistics coming from the City of Chicago is automatically suspect. It's like reading the Russian newspaper Pravda. All bullshit. Local electronic and printed media are unreliable, untrustworthy, corrupt, pro Democratic Socialist and in lockstep with the vengeful City Hall occupant.

The Democratic strangle hold on the city will continue. The takers outnumber those burdened with crushing taxes. Economic forces, crime, fear, chaos, corruption and population decline will continue to drive Chicago values into its downward spiral of ruination. Gimmicks like legalized dope and casino's will fail. These are the last breathes of a dying city. The last vestige of Democrats desperately trying to hold on to power and domination of the Community.

Lori is just a new face selling the same snake oil of reform as did previous mayors while Chicago declines. The stats provided do not fall in line with our common sense thinking and keen observations. The Big Chicago Lie is alive and well thanks to Shitty Hall and its media harlots.

Also Disappearing:

People also disappearing from Village of Oak Lawn, who just won the 2019 Nationwide Award for "Noisiest Town in the USA" with a record 4.500+ documented Noise Disturbances annually for 2019, test results taken from 95 st. & Cicero Ave. in downtown Oak Lawn area, with all noise disturbances over 120 decibels recorded. Disturbance sources: Sirens (Ambulance, Fire Trucks, Police Vehicles), Train Horns, Auto & Truck Horns, over 120 decibels), Heavy Road Construction Equipment, Airplane flyovers, and misc. noise disturbances. Most residents and business complaints from the area around Christ Hospital due to non-stop ambulance siren activity round the clock. Bewildered Village Officials fail to comment, too busy out drinking their lunches. Possibly out smokin a Fatty now too, now that they approved Marijuana in Illinois, another great piece of mental genius by these Wizards. Congrats to Oak Lawn Residents and coupled with newly elected Illinois Governor JB Pritzker's new extreme Tax increases, Oak Lawn and Illinois Residents fleeing Illinois by the thousands, Village Residents should see significant property value losses in the near future. Great overall thinking on the part of local and State Politicians and the stupid asses who voted for them.

Reality check. In between Crook and Milwaukee Counties there are now more than one million people just in the lakeshore counties (Racine, Kenosha and Lake). The "need" to go to either "city" is far less than when we were kids. Now, people come out by us to shop (Gurnee Mills, Pleasant Prairie Outlets, downtowns Highland Park and Lake Forest) or to go to a theater show and there's free parking and no confiscatory sales tax rate. And, when feasible, the Milwaukee airport is much saner than O'Hare or Midway. Sure there are still reasons to come to town but far less than in the past.
