- Funny... just watched our Interim Superintendent give a press conference on Crime Reduction in 2019 and he Thanked everyone from faith based groups to the Mayor. He talked about how over 10,800 guns were recovered but he never not once mentioned the lowly patrol officers who recovered those weapons and made those statistics possible. No Thanks for the piss ants, What the Fuck.
Anyone have the link to the actual press conference so we can see for ourselves what was said?
In the meantime, given all the bragging about "double digit declines" in homicides, the "double digit" increases of cleared homicides, the ten-thousand gun "recovered," perhaps the FOP should be demanding a pay raise commensurate with these efforts? After all, it wasn't the teachers driving the numbers.
Eighteen percent sounds like a decent starting point, but we're willing to go higher if Groot insists.

Ok This phony narrative about giving credit to the community actually started with CAPS. I was just a low level boss in the district and in units before I left ten years ago. I can remember police officers working up patterns, making some good arrests, maybe multiple clear ups all on their own. But then the bigger bosses would come and say, somehow we have to get the community involved and give them some credit. So then the narrative they wanted was maybe those police officers got some tips or information from the citizens as we must include our community partners. Oh puke!!! They are determined to make this CAPS thing work. When they would address public meetings that is what the narrative became. Give everyone a trophy! They will do anything to appease the community. I can remember some places where they had the police hold hands and pray with the citizens or have a cup of joe with them. Next thing you will be joining them for a little weed. So the strategy today is give the customer what they want as that old retail adage said. The Democrat Socialist politicians are experts at giving the customer what they want but they sure don’t know how to pay for it unless they take it out of our pockets. I see they added another fireworks display on the Rahm Emanuel Riverwalk™️ in addition to the pier. Give the customer what they want, more kabooms, more weed, more hug a thug, more free shit, less law enforcement, prosecutions, incarcerations and no cash bonds.

Our sgts, lts and captains felt their unions did a good job and settled for 10.5 % over 5 years. They agreed to it. I’m sure that helped the FOP in their future negotiations

I’m sure the raises they will give us will cover the increase in property taxes and the interest they earn on our measly 2 percent yearly raises

Financial crisis? Blame those police and their pensions. Crime spike? Police aren’t doing their jobs. Police are doing their jobs? Racists. Mass incarceration problem? Racist police over policing minority areas. And then not to mention the general disdain for us from the governor all the way down to John Doe citizen. AND THEN, there’s finally some good news, drops in crime. Things that are directly attributable to the police. and when it comes time for the big media show about the good work, we get left out. And “community” that is the driving force behind every problem (contributing nothing financially, soaking up VAST resources, committing a VAST majority of the crime, who when a baby gets shot tell us to fuck ourselves) gets the credit. It’s like I’m high school when we all had those group projects, there’s was always one kid who did absolutely nothing on the project making everyone’s task harder, but then demanded credit at the end. To 1009am. Get your facts straight. The sgts didnt even know what hit them till it did. It was never brought to them. The union did it without any input. Sgts were told to live with it because there is no vote. So there was no agreement by the sgts. The union sold them out for a retro check sooner rather than later and put the heavy haul on fop. The rest of the contract is going to arbitration.

it would be nice to have officers all have each others backs in their battles of being treated unfairly by the department/city. Obviously I’m referring to the ETs comment that’s received a lot of attention. Now, I’ve been in patrol my whole career, i dont know if this ET has a legitimate complaint or not, i dont know enough about it. Maybe he is just being a cry baby. But reading the responses to it, it’s the same response that any coppers gets who’s not on a beat car. Every copper who’s not in a beat car who says something about being treated unfairly by the department or city is told to, essentially “shut up you’re not in a beat car” or “come back to patrol and stop crying”. If anyone makes a move out of a beat car, so many people turn their backs on them and are basically saying, you dared to leave a beat car for a better spot therefore you deserve to be treated like shit. Why would we not have the backs of fellow coppers who get treated like shit by the department? I don’t want to hear about the department violating contract or fucking with any copper, regardless of how bad or cushy their spot is. Again, this is in general not necessarily to the ETs comment. Not trying to be a dick to anyone, just a thought. Fuck this city and department, don’t let them push us around, no matter our position. Stay safe boys and girls.

When I can go to work daily and see this sorry excuse for a Chief still here, Melissa Staples and that weirdo Dep Chief Jones still have jobs with their years of bottom clearance rates, I'm not doing a thing. Why is it that whenever someone in a unit fights for something better they always get the same thing? If you don't like it the go back to patrol. Since when did fighting for more become a bad thing? It is exactly this attitude that keeps this dept divided. We should applaud and support anyone on this job who tries to get more for what we do. Someone else making more money isn't taking a penny out of your pocket. They talk about the thin blue line, well it doesn't exist in Chicago. Too many petty jealous children. If you don't like patrol then do something else. I got out of patrol after 20 years, and yeah life isn't fair, even less so on this dept. But if you didn't know that when you came on then shame on you. If we stood together just once, we could change this dept in one year.

OT: I just watched my deferred comp cross the half million mark(thank you President Trump). For anyone just coming on the job I remember 21 years ago signing up for it at the academy, there were ups and downs but in the long run you will not regret it.

Congratulations. Good for you. I was one of the fortunate ones that signed up and maxed out right away. There were plenty of the complainers who said the city will steal your money, the city will put the money in their name and it won’t be there when you retire. A lot of guys didn’t invest in the beginning Was a shame but times were different back then
Who cares about who gets the credit. Back stabbing on arrests and investigations has been going on for years. What ever boss can dial fast enough to the chiefs office gets the credit. Even if his officers had a minute part he'll dress them up like they were leading the charge. The boot lick bosses are famous for this. I've been involved in several investigations and made the arrests and the outside assist units boss is on the phone taking credit for it. The only thing to me that meant anything was putting in the yellow slip. I walked out the door with 3500 + hours on the books. Cha Ching and thank you to all the bosses who sign them. So don't pull the crying towel out when some suck hole boss talks out of his ass bragging about your arrest/investigation just get the yellow slip in.
Am I suppose to expect recognition from a boss on this job? Let’s be honest 2/3 belittle and demean all the work done for them and only take care of the clouted. They can’t waste precious moments shopping online to hit an approval button for the working joe.
Were doing the same thing in 19...while there's a shooting yesterday...we know what's more important, kissing the alderman's ass.

Now how many of those guns you think are from actual felony arrests where charges were approved? 2%? 5%? The average idiot looks at those stats and think it means something but in reality they are mostly turn ins and confiscations, or found at crime scenes after being tossed, and easily replaced by criminals because they are still free.
And even if charged they will probably get out of Jail on the Crimesha plan and GAT up again in short order. I have more respect for Eddie Johnson's blow jobs then I do for CPD stats. At least the blow job was Legit.

How is it that you see Staples and Jones everyday? Do you work in unit 180 pushing files folders? You haven’t done much work anyway. You’re a useless crybaby. Go back to the field.
NOJO’s are our time to shuffle the deck and get some quality supervisors who were once actual detectives. Is that too much to ask for? Working in IAD as an administrative investigator does not give you Felony Review experience.
