Another Great Bail

  • A West Side man is charged with possessing a loaded handgun in a car recently while free on bail as he awaits trial for a 2017 armed carjacking in the Loop.

CWBChicago first told you about Savion Canty after prosecutors charged him for his alleged role in an armed carjacking of a Hilton Chicago Hotel employee in April 2017. In bond court for the carjacking, a pretrial analysis recommended that Canty be placed under “maximum conditions” if the judge decided to release him on bail.

Instead, Judge Stephanie Miller ordered him held without bail. Less than a week later, Canty appeared before now-retired Judge Marvin Luckman, who earned the nickname “Let ‘em Go Luckman” due to his defendant-friendly rulings. Luckman reduced Canty’s bail and allowed him to go home the same day by posting a $2,000 bond.

Now, prosecutors have charged Canty with having a handgun in a car during a traffic stop in West Garfield Park. Police said Canty, 21, was in the back seat of a vehicle that fled the scene of an accident. When they removed Canty from the back seat, officers allegedly found a loaded handgun with an extended ammunition magazine under the back of the driver’s seat at Canty’s feet.
And once again, CWB blog doing all of the heavy lifting here.

Why in hell are they letting retired judges hear cases? Marvin (“Officer, I believe everything you are telling me but, no probable cause.”) Luckman was working in city government in the 1960s and before that I believe he was an attorney advising Moses on the Ten Commandants.

Off topic a little but not really. I can’t stand watching all the politicos rant about Mr. Trump commuting Blago. All the hypocritical statements coming from our Murder mayor Groot while she supports Crimisha and her justice reform

Vote no on all of them.

Chicago has tens of thousands of bust out attorneys who need a pension.

You know, I never see these assholes charged for having magazines with more than 10 rounds when the stories print. Do we simply not enforce those laws? I know. Let's make more and newer gun laws. That'll fix it.

Did the bad guy file for a change in judges; normally the judge that set the bail hears any requests to change it. Then again, this IS Crook County. As to voting to retain any judges, don't rush to "throw them all out" for no reason. Pick off the ones who keep letting felons out on no-bond/EM. etc. Example from civilian life: Had a civil case as a self-represented plaintiff. Despite certain technical mistakes by me, Judge Agran was patient, professional, and ended up complimenting me on my arguments and research in ultimately presenting my case in court and in briefs. (Hint: I stepped up my game, learned what I needed to know, and always took responsibility for any delays/mistakes along the way). Judge Agran did rule against me, but I understood why, and have great respect for him. If I vote him out, some SJW type might get in. Pick your targets. Vote the ones out who are cop haters, who let felons out all the time, etc. It's important to keep the few good ones in.

Why makes you think they aren't in a non-direct way. Remember "fast and furious" all the ammo
odumbo bought while pres. What was that about? Any guns we didn't hear about?

Finger print evidence finally came back positive?
Seems either that was the case or KmmmFxxxx is just going to let a few pass through the system to help out Evans Gun Dashboard.

In any case, with a charge being almost 2 years old, shuffle the ASA’s, lose more notes and files, continual stalling, by the time everything get sorted out and justice restored one way or another this armed violent feral will have completed time served on untracked an ankle monitor with or without additional violations. The past transgressions will not have any bearing on his new or future violent armed criminal acts.
Everyone is going to get a fair, clean slate at every trial that comes up.

Setting the new precedence.
If up to Merit Chief Carter, guns in cars and backpacks are non-offense miscellaneous incidents of misunderstandings.
Just to be clear, that privilege includes celebs and ordinary folk when they claim Not Mines.

The sociologists, etc. always point to the poor, downtrodden as deserving multiple chances. But I've never seen any studies that point out the obvious; that they have many more chances than the suburban kids do. Groups of juveniles in the burbs will be approached, just like a car with out of date tags will get stopped. The difference being that most individuals with jobs, family (fathers), etc. will correct their behaviors toute suite. Never seen the eggheads report on the Community member that uses his/her not giving a d**n about jail as a weapon against those with jobs and/or means. For whatever reason the victims are never as sympathetic as the criminals. The catch and release system just makes for more victims, which again, the powers that be seem to ignore. Unless their own oxen are gored of course
I'm sure if that judge had his car stolen he would have been hell on car thieves, but otherwise, those Community votes count

By the way, I had to escort Sid Luckman around Soldier Field during a game years ago. He was a jerk too. Runs in the family.
