Police Memorial Info

It's that time of year again - planning a trip to the annual Police Memorial in Washington DC.

As usual, Retired Sergeant Al Piantkowski has put together THE definitive guide to anything and everything happening in the nation's capital.

And (unfortunately) as usual, we are unable to get Scribd.com to accept the document so we can post it here as a readable/printable document.

Fortunately, the Sergeants Association website did get it uploaded and it's available for viewing and printing at the link below:
Give it a minute to load - it's nineteen pages of maps, photos, event calendars, etc.

We apologize for our technological shortcomings. We are working on it and if we manage to get it uploaded, we'll link it. It is truly a work of love and dedication that deserves widespread exposure to everyone making the pilgrimage to DC.

If I may......as a former resident of that city, make some suggestions to the Veterans with "leftovers" from the war. The Marine Corp museum is incredible, but, when you move to the Vietnam exhibit, you walk through a Helicopter, they pump in the smell of JP4 for realism as you are going down the ramp, with gunfire sounds, you know the deal. It did me in. I wasn't ready for it, it was "a bad one". Pulse 160, sweating profusely, in front of my family. Shit.
Arlington. If you were in Iraq & Afghanistan, your buddies are in Area 160. Try to get taken straight there. You can drive to that area and park right on the road like a normal cemetery. It is fairly quiet. I have seven friends there, they are all in a small area. You can download the info before you go. Don't go to the tourist areas, they are a CIRCUS. The Tomb of The Unknowns was one of the worst experiences of life. The LT marches up and requests that people respect the ceremony, no photos or video. The entire crowd blows him off, they are snapping pictures, talking, laughing.....etc, while he is asking him not to. Only me, and my two sons were listening and attentive. Don't go. You will hate your fellow Americans. It is absolutely nothing like European Cemeteries. No respect, no solemn occasion, no reflection. Just assholes and selfies.
Also, Veteran's Day is not for you. I was turned away with my sons because "SparkleFarts" was in there giving a speech. Don't expect "healing" to occur at Arlington. They lost one of my buddy's bodies for a while. No shit. The entire time you will want to strangle people, especially the busloads of High School kids, they are acting like assholes in a Cemetary. If you acted like that at Normandy the locals would beat you with a stick.
For the Korean and WWII memorials on the mall. I would go late at night. After 11 pm. There are plenty of Park Police around, and less idiots and protestors. More solemn, like the beaches at Normandy where they still respect the dead for their sacrifice. It is usually a little foggy at night, when you approach the figures just kind of appear. It is absolutely awesome....at night.
Sorry if this is weird, I'm just trying to help.

Fabulous message!
Glad you were there with your sons.

I was so honored to do the Honor Flight with my Dad a few years ago.
Dad was a NAVY man who enlisted at not quite 18 years of age during WWll,
My Grandfather (MARINES) had to sign for Dad to accomplish that.
What a trip was and I encourage all Vets to make that Honor Flight!
You earned it!
Dad passed away a year ago this April at 95!
And he is so missed....
