“The NBA All Star game has come to Chicago on what happens to be a very violent weekend,” Brooks said. “So while the eyes of the world are on our city, we’re asking for the world to come alongside and help us.”

Dear groot, today, and for everyday of the 30+ years I have owned firearms, I ‘stepped up’ and had zero shootings, accidental or otherwise, in my home. This small piece of Chicago is safe and secure.
Mine are all in safes and behind a burglar alarm. And I'm an NRA member. And retired CPD. There's no such thing as accidentally shot. By whom? Oh, another child!!! WTF? No one in chicago will say that the emperor has no clothes.

we had lots of guns in my house as a kid, pistols, rifle, shotguns,
no one ever got hurt, NO ONE, EVER.
Lets see here. I raised two kids with a fully loaded pistol in my nightstand, one in my wife's nightstand for 2 legged varmints, a fully loaded (5 shot) Winchester m97 pump with 00 buck by the back door for 4 legged varmints and a 10/22 at the front door for targets of opportunity.
Son, daughter and 16 years ago when the granddaughter came here, and not one incident. Friends came over, if one was stupid enough to touch one the kids would come down on them like the hammer of Thor.
These weapons were not adult supervised. The children were raised to respect what they could do and be respectful of us, the parents. All my kids own firearms. My daughter taught the SIL to shoot. Her house is seeded with firearms for two legged varmints.
Teaching children respect for firearms starts way before they know what firearms are. It is "Yes, Mam", "No Sir", "May I", and "Thank you". Teaching manners, respect, sanctity of life and consequences is what changes children from the heathens they are to the human beings they have to become.
But that takes time and effort. Something these communities are not willing to invest. And the community leadership wants to blame everyone except the ones who can make the changes. It is so much easier not to blame the parents.
How much common sense does it take to leave a gun where kids can get at it?

life itself. It is a wage earner, a means to settling disputes and an equalizer for the weaker to have a chance to defend and offend. It is worshiped and the children see and feel it, hence the intrigue and mystery of the all powerful tool. Children of the violence lovers covet the tool and you better believe they will seek it out at every chance such as witnessed by this weekend's shootings.
A small population of this great country should not have these tools either directed by law or by the fact they are just not capable of storing and handling these tools.
I have served in the combat infantry, did some private contracting and yes, we have tools in the house. We also enjoy using them for fun, seeing who shoots the 10/22's better. My daughter out shoots me which is what I want.
There is no mystery or wondering about the tools we use. We all know they are not toys and are capable of hurting people very badly. By doing this my kids respect the tool and are very aware of how to handle them.
They know the rules and have to abide by them. No mystery, no fascination, no accidents.
I am no writer like the always entertaining Box Chevy Phantom, but I hope I have made my point.
Take the mystery out of firearms, keep them safe and maybe we can have less children harming each other.

On Sunday a private company with bomb dogs was working the ALL STAR game. As a vehicle was inspected a dog alerted the handler. I've even heard more than one alerted on the same vehicle. CPD units were requested via radio along with bomb techs. Here is where things get interesting- the vehicle occupants who were apparently guests of a celebrity, exited the vehicle and just walked away and into the venue. Inside the vehicle officers discovered narcotics and several guns. That is when newly anointed Chief Carter stepped in and said to let them -the occupants- walk. I was also told that the Chief's daughter was seen hanging out with said celebrity during the NBA weekend. Now I will admit that this is a story I heard second or even third hand. I'm just wondering if you have heard this from anyone else....

Almost 100% of the gun problems in this city are by illegally owned firearms. Unregistered guns possessed by minors and felons. Gun laws will ONLY render the law abiding citizens helpless which is what Soros wants and the useful idiots don't realize.

Lets see here. I raised two kids with a fully loaded pistol in my nightstand, one in my wife's nightstand for 2 legged varmints, a fully loaded (5 shot) Winchester m97 pump with 00 buck by the back door for 4 legged varmints and a 10/22 at the front door for targets of opportunity.
Son, daughter and 16 years ago when the granddaughter came here, and not one incident. Friends came over, if one was stupid enough to touch one the kids would come down on them like the hammer of Thor.
These weapons were not adult supervised. The children were raised to respect what they could do and be respectful of us, the parents. All my kids own firearms. My daughter taught the SIL to shoot. Her house is seeded with firearms for two legged varmints.
Teaching children respect for firearms starts way before they know what firearms are. It is "Yes, Mam", "No Sir", "May I", and "Thank you". Teaching manners, respect, sanctity of life and consequences is what changes children from the heathens they are to the human beings they have to become.
But that takes time and effort. Something these communities are not willing to invest. And the community leadership wants to blame everyone except the ones who can make the changes. It is so much easier not to blame the parents.
This post should be it’s own thread. It should also be on the morning news, the evening news, and taught in schools, instead of the leftist BS that they teach. What this articulate, right-thinking person so perfectly stated is the real reason why “two cities” exist in Chicago.

If you actively prosecute and imprison people who illegally use and possess guns so they can't go out and do it again, you will reduce "gun violence" and take away a favorite campaign issue.
If you don't prosecute the people who illegally use and possess guns and instead leave them or return them to the street to do it again, you will get a higher body count to use in your campaign to take guns away from everyone.
However hard our useless Chicago ‘journalists’ try to downgrade each of these shootings by claiming ‘accidental discharge’ and what not, the core questions still linger there. Why is there a gun in the house? Why isn’t this locked up? Where were the parent when Lil’ Man gots that gun? Where was ma? Where was Grandma or Auntie to tell them to put that gun down? Who’s watching the kids?!?
