Cops Rescue Swimmer

  • Chicago police officers dove onto ice at the edge of Lake Michigan and pulled someone out of the frigid water Saturday morning in the Gold Coast, Chicago police said.

After receiving a call for a person in the water, SWAT officers who were patrolling the area saw someone bobbing in the water around 7 a.m. in the 600 block of North Lake Shore Drive, police said.

The officers hopped over a breakwall, slid across the ice and pulled the person from the water, according to police.

The person was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition.
There's video floating around (floating...haha) somewhere and it's very good. These two officers almost went in themselves before other city workers grabbed their legs to help get the victim out of the water. Very very well done.

Don’t judge a whole group by the actions of a few you fu*king sheep.
99% of police are trying to do the right thing every day. Time for the “community” to step the hell up. The people are sick of this fake agenda now, you will see come March... how about

Watched this from my high-rise window, didn’t catch the heroism (fire response brought me to the window), but I saw the crew all gathered around someone, but >not< in the water, no (scuba team) which drove me to have a discussion with my wife about the fact that Chicago’s first responders RESPOND when a life is in danger.

SCC made fun of the coyote ice rescue, one of the few times I’ve disagreed. I drove by when they were packing up and my heart sank; that was exactly where the two partiers drowned after driving their car in the water.

But nope, it was just part of the first-responder DNA...if something needs to get rescued, by damn Chicago’s responders are going to rescue it, at least that’s what this citizen takes away. That is pure professional pride and it makes this city safer.

A toast to the two that were first on the scene and took care of business before waiting for someone else to do the hard work.

When will the so called leadership of the City stop encouraging criminals and start backing the citizens, the victims and the CPD? This is war.

Fuck you, Judge Evans.

Reach, Throw, Row, Go. All Border Patrol vehicles have a floatation rescue Frisbee (Model MS-13) to be thrown at any illegals drowning while attempting to swim across the border into the U.S. Maybe we can get the ones that don't have the short rope attached.

Good job officers. The Almighty was watching over you all and thankfully everyone was able to go home safely. That being said, I think it is beyond reckless for anyone to play around the waters of lake Michigan in the middle of winter. They put not only themselves, but others at unreasonable risk. I've lived here my whole life and never heard more incidents where these fools underestimate the hazards of that lake and fall in, can't swim, swam too far, ignored warnings, got drunk, etc. than I have in recent years.

A little preparedness goes a long way.
When I hear of these incidents, I wonder many of you lakefront, riverfront guys and gals carry or have a good length of thick rope in the Department vehicle ?

“There's video floating around (floating...haha) somewhere and it's very good.”
– Im annoyed by how many morons out there quick with the cellphone cameras and too occupied capturing the event for mass release on their social media. Some won’t bother to help or assist in any way to save a life or even bother to call for help. Maybe one of them called 911, but have be out there at 7am in the bitter cold to get that footage for instagram or twitters is appalling.

WGN has the video - hurray for the Swat officers that saved him! In the earlier video it looks like the guy is maybe drunk or something wandering along. The runner (I'm not sure why the hell you would be out there running on the ice in the freezing cold!> is freaked out and has no clue what to do - he must not have had a phone with him.
What's weird on the video is that the firetruck people seem to be walking around slowly and in no rush until the Swat guys go running.

Originally thought the same when I first saw the video but after reviewing the video it also was confirmed in the paper by the officers. The officers were walking along the wall and could see the swimmer in the water. It you look the CFD personnel were in the roadway and couldn’t see him because he was in the water below the wall and not visible from their position. As soon as they saw the SWAT guys go to grab him, they headed down
