Conviction Stands

  • Gerald Reed’s shot at freedom came just before Christmas 2018, when a Cook County judge threw out his murder convictions amid accusations he was tortured into a false confession by detectives under notorious ex-Chicago police Cmdr. Jon Burge.

On Friday, those hopes were dashed.

In a stunning reversal, a different judge on Friday reinstated Reed’s convictions and his life sentence for a gruesome, decades-old double homicide. After decades in state prison, Reed was being held at Cook County Jail as he hoped another jury would hear his case and end his incarceration for good.

Instead, Judge Thomas Hennelly ruled that all the proceedings leading up to Reed’s exoneration actually centered around an oral statement that was never used at trial — not his separate written confession. Reed, 56, alleged that Burge detectives tortured him into that statement.
This is at least the second case that, when looked at dispassionately and without granting blind allegiance to the litany of lies spouted by Zorn and the corrupt Northwestern University minions, stands up to legal challenges and shows that CPD got it correct.

Mayors statement to the media. How interesting she clearly sees the problem when it applies to her but not to the police:

Obviously Bill McCaffrey was your buddy, but I hope that we are not getting to a new standard in media here in Chicago where we have a bunch of unnamed sources that there’s no other information provided,” Lightfoot said. “They’re just throwing out a bunch of chum on the water, and people are biting at it as if it’s the truth, because the things that have been put out that I’ve seen are demonstrably false, and could easily be proven so with a little bit of diligence, which is what I would assume reporters who are serious about this would do.”

It always gets my goat when you see groups like Northwesern's "Innocence Project" or attorneys from the Peoples Law Office stand outside 26th and California with their prized clients who all profess to have been beaten and coerced into signing confessions by the late Jon Burge. Watching the news last night, with the media surrounding Reed's mother and some other woman screaming about Reed's innocence was just another instance. The media loves this shit, and they despise us. Bloomberg supposed has stepped on his dick when they played the recordings of his rationale for deploying police to minority neighborhoods when he responded that police are sent to where most of the crime is. And this, like everything else today is racist. There's a lot of mileage on those tires and the taxpayers are getting sick of it.

Kimm Foxx always bringing up a situation in which a man (Burge) was never convicted of 1 torture case. Funny how the liberal news never brings up their past 2 hero's who were convicted of crimes (Jesse Jackson Jr. and his wife Sandy) They stole almost 1 million dollars and only served less than 2 years and the other less than 1 year but Blago got 14 years and never took 1 dime. I guess you gotta be white in the city, county and state to get negative news coverage

Not saying that on rare occasions innocent people go to jail. Is it always a result of an evil officer, racist detective trying to put an innocent man away? Most likely not. More likely the result of flawed identification from witnesses or flat out, witnesses who lie. Were police tactics different decades ago, not going to deny it. But there are too many unsolved murders from years past, that this idea that detectives were jailing innocent people willy nilly, the lack of past clearances doesn’t really support that. Now, you have politicians & media screaming about a lack of murder clearances in the detective division. You’ve got an understaffed and inexperienced detective division, ERI (which arrestees are aware of), uncooperative witnesses & communities, police oversight up the ass, more than likely a victim with an extensive criminal history and a State’s Attorney who acts like a public defender. How easy do they think it is for a clearance? These various innocence projects are so blinded by their self-righteousness and own bias against the institution of policing that there’s a lot of room for errors (if not down right lies) on their part. They can’t even fathom the idea that a guy looking at life in prison has any reason to not proclaim his innocence and lie. Always, always the police lied and tortured the guy.

Wonder if the other similar restored justice involved liars will be given a new look and repeal of freedoms.
Expect another costly, tying up the court bullshit re-re-appeal anyway.

They are finally looking at the evidence in the cases. Even 25-35 years ago they never brought forth a case just on some mope admitting guilt....you still had to have evidence. They did not beat a confession out of anyone....the evidence was always there.

I'm close with a friend who's dad worked for Jon Burge and it was a lie that they tortured and coerced confessions out of people. An absolute lie! It was a false narrative drawn up by the media. Big surprise right? Criminals lie...who knew?

Another great example of this is the tale of Anthony Porter. There's a Netflix documentary on it that does an exceptional job detailing the efforts of the D unit, but ultimately to no avail. It's titled "Murder in the Park". It will blow your mind. Should be required viewing for recruits. Here's a link.

Agreed on the Netflix show. Outstanding. Some stand up detectives were given the right to speak in the show. Anthony Porter absolutely committed the crime. numerous witness who knew Porter personally. The neighborhood feared porter because he was brutally violent and had an IQ of about 6. Alstory Simon did confess but he said it was because he was up for days doing cocaine. I usually poo-poo the false confession stuff and I don't know why he confessed, but the witnesses who knew Porter were overwhelmingly convincing.
