- Mayor Lori Lightfoot summoned interim Police Supt. Charlie Beck and the 41 commanders under his control to City Hall on Tuesday to talk about ways to tamp down the violence after Chicago suffered its deadliest February weekend in 18 years.
“I wouldn’t describe the mayor as angry. I’m not angry. She’s not angry. We’re concerned,” Beck told the Sun-Times. “We have some issues that we’re dealing with in certain pockets of Chicago. We met to talk about those strategies. I’m not gonna go into them in depth, except to say that they involve a broad range of resources focused on areas that have suffered the violence the most.”
- Chicago “could have a mess on our hands that eclipses some of the worst years of violence” the city has seen, unless police get proactive and use all the tools available to them, Mayor Lori Lightfoot warned Wednesday.
After a weekend of violence — including nine homicides — that was the worst in February in 18 years, Lightfoot summoned interim Chicago Police Supt. Charlie Beck and 41 CPD commanders under his control to essentially read them the riot act.
“This weekend’s crime numbers, where we saw so many homicides and we saw a lot of shootings, were incredibly distressing to me,” Lightfoot said. “I’m not gonna shy away from that and I had a lot of very difficult conversations with CPD leadership over the weekend, Monday and yesterday.”
Did any of the conversations center around the continuous harassment of Police by so many oversight organizations, that actual policing is dead? COPA is re-opening investigations that have been adjudicated years ago, just so they can fire officers previously cleared. Force Review is fine-combing videos looking for any and all infractions and recommending officers be pulled from the street for "training" - training that is actually punishment. IAD is continually covering for corrupt clouted officers.
And do we really have to go over the Crimesha disaster, where robbers are pled out to probation and then go on to murder multiple victims at the same time. Continuing Investigations that never get charged. Last week's article about murder stats being fudged, meaning known murderers are out and about, free to kill again.

It is not, nor has it even been, the job of the police to reduce violence. We respond to calls. We are reactive, not proactive. Society has an obligation to act civilized. Our role is to enforce laws and to detain those who break the laws subsequent to turning them over to the State for judicial process and punishment.

There is nothing we as police can do. We are reactive, we must wait for crime to happen before arresting someone. We can try and prevent crime but that can only stop some criminals and some crimes. We have to operate within the law. We have laws governing our response. This isn’t the movie where we can do what ever we want to get the bad guys. The justice system is not holding up there end. I will follow the policy’s and laws. I’m doing the best I can do.

I was there.The Commander of 009 spoke up about the States Attorney and low bail, early release etc..it was actually refreshing to hear from an exempt for once. He made a compelling case for his Officers who made an almost immediate arrest and told it like it is. Then shockingly Groot actually agreed with him on the early release! Awhile back I was pulled over by 5 foot female police offices on the Northside- Addison and Cicero. I did not even tell them I was retired, but I asked a question about my wife’s uncle who is scumbag alderman and on the other side Of her family I ask a question about her uncle Chuy being a corrupt political scumbag— police offices did not even run my name and quickly gave me back my license. I ask why my question was not answered? Guess CPD did not train for this situation, I am glad it was recorded tho.

We’ve had multiple shootings (or shots fired b/c no one was hit), car jacking, burglaries, muggings, etc...etc....all in the neighborhood near the mayors home. These are happening in all the “good” neighborhoods.....and the “certain pockets of Chicago”. Don’t they dare strip our neighborhoods where citizens and coppers all live to serve the crappiest part of the city. Those parts are like that b/c many (not all) of the people living there are like that. While CPD is sent to those “pockets”....everyone else is being left high and dry. Lord help us.....these tactics have been tried before and have never worked....why do the powers that be think they will work this time? Isn’t that the definition of insanity? Traffic is very congested, especially in the morning with people reverse commuting to their jobs in Illinois. They are building all these new subdivisions to attract the "Refugees" on two-lane county roads that were formerly farm roads. Schools are raising taxes to pay for all the new children.
I have lived in one of the aforementioned Towns in Lake County for over 25 years and am now building a new home farther south in a rural part of Indiana and more importantly a Republican County. This new area will never be developed in my lifetime and it is a great retirement area.
Lake County is controlled by Democrats as are most town and cities in Lake County. They are increasing property taxes to pay for all of the programs and "free shit" that the "Refugees" are demanding.
Please, clean up your own state. Start a revolution, become vigilanties. Do what is necessary to change your own mess, instead of importing it into Indiana. We don't want you.

The federal judge gave an Ok to " merit" promotions and the political class was off and running. The clouted came back from leaves of absence to get merit promotions to lieutenant, some who never even took the exam, and were soon captains and commanders. *Uncle Terry promoted every black lieutenant to captain, some who never even applied for the rank, that is after the city made captain a " merit" rank with no testing of job knowledge. Now, just about the entire command staff have been appointed up through the ranks. Many are incompetent, arrogant leaders, and I use the term leaders lightly. I feel sad for what has become of CPD. It will take a generation to turn it around and the rising body count will mark the way. There is nothing the mayor can do at this point to motivate the men and women to go out there and be proactive. That type of department is dead for now. There must be an outsider to run the department. I wish Beck would stay, but that will not happen.

I did not even tell them I was retired, but I asked a question about my wife’s uncle who is scumbag alderman and on the other side Of her family I ask a question about her uncle Chuy being a corrupt political scumbag— police offices did not even run my name and quickly gave me back my license. I ask why my question was not answered? Guess CPD did not train for this situation, I am glad it was recorded tho.

Document all bonifide crimes as required.

There are good Sgts here helping more than you think. But with the new chief we got, as soon as I can find a district I can get days on, I'm leaving and quite a few others here are leaving too. One of the Lts just bailed because Konow wants them to sign in and out whenever they leave the office. She chewed out one because he was sitting in another office when she was looking for him. There is nothing we as police can do. We are reactive, we must wait for crime to happen before arresting someone. We can try and prevent crime but that can only stop some criminals and some crimes. We have to operate within the law. We have laws governing our response. This isn’t the movie where we can do what ever we want to get the bad guys. The justice system is not holding up there end. I will follow the policy’s and laws. I’m doing the best I can do.
The city obviously doesn’t care about the men and women doing Police work. We are without a contract coming up on 3 years. I can’t wait to leave this god forsaken place and job! I have 4 years and 11 mouths. Good luck!

I'm retired now but I once had the best job in the world. I was a Chicago Police Officer. I loved it. I couldn't wait to get to work. It was a blast every day and there was always more the next day. We did what needed to be done regardless of circumstances and if there was a door in our way that door went down, if you ran we CHASED and we caught you. Not so much anymore is it?

Regarding the upsurge in crime, we all know it comes and goes. Lightfoot is just getting her feet wet with all of this. The leadership of the CPD will now be able to come together and formulate plans, particularly in the 7th and 11th Districts, to deal with the constant surge of violent crime, fueled mainly by gangs and drugs.

Bit of advice for ALL coppers still working---------Show up on time, grab your coffee out of roll call, find a relatively safe area on your beat, answer your calls, but very slowly, write the paper, maybe, maybe write a parker or 2, drive back to your safe spot. Then go home after check-off. U owe NOBODY. Stay SAFE and remain FETAL!!! These asswipes deserve what they get.
