Database Under Fire Already
- Aldermen and community activists on Thursday denounced the Chicago Police Department’s plan to upgrade and remodel its error-filled gang database and demanded that it be abolished entirely.
“I don’t know whether we’ll be able to sell the use of the gang database after all the discrepancies that have been reported with it. Not just discrepancies, but the abuses,” said Ald. Chris Taliaferro (29th), the former Chicago Police officer now chairing the City Council’s Committee on Public Safety. “It’s the same fight that we fought with the Laquan McDonald shooting. People become less and less trusting of police officers and the Chicago Police Department when we’re trying to build that trust. This gang database — the continued use of it — may not facilitate the growth in that relationship.”
Interim Police Superintendent Charlie Beck has unveiled a series of safeguards intended to eliminate myriad problems that spurred a federal lawsuit and were subsequently outlined in detail by Inspector General Joe Ferguson. They include strict criteria and a “multi-level process” before anyone is added to the database, an appeals process overseen by the Police Board to get off of it and automatic removal of persons who have had no contact with law enforcement for a period of five years. Beck also promised “only bona fide law enforcement partners” would have access to the new list and Chicago Police officers will have access only “when they’re involved in a criminal investigation.”
None of that was good enough to satisfy the activists who gathered at City Hall Thursday. They simply don’t trust the same Chicago Police Department that got it wrong the first time to get it right the second time.
Just remember when Groot gives her next speech about "using every tool" at CPD's disposal to tamp down the shootings in the "community." The toolbox is empty Mayor, and guess who emptied it out?

Taliaferro Is a piece of sh&# fake cop. His ward in Austin some how stretched North along Harlem from the Austin neighborhood and west on Belmont from Harlem. He has ensured that section 8 has become a staple in the Montclair and dunning neighborhood. If you don’t believe me, look at the ward map. Makes no sense. How does gang infested Austin have anything in common with Dunning/Montclair? The area has seen the most change then other area in Chicago as they “integrate” the once strong working class neighborhood into a gang infested section 8 cesspool. Belmont and Harlem is unrecognizable now. This so called copper is against the gang system?? Which helps identify gang members for officer safety? Police officers blood will be on his hands. I’m sure he doesn’t give a shit because the gerrymandering that the Democrats did to make the bulk of his voters coming from African American Austin will continue to re-elect him while he single handily destroys a once nice neighborhood that is powerless to do anything because of the way his district is drawn up. If you see this racist piece of sh&# make sure you turn your back on him and don’t shake his hand. His true colors came out once he became and alderman.
All you have to do is tell the politicians that ICE won't have access to it and play the Macarena. They will all dance happily.

The mayor is in over her head. She needs to stop enabling the criminals and start having real discussions on community accountability and responsibility. Each individual has a responsibility to be accountable for his or her behavior. All actions, positive or negative, have consequences. Until she starts talking about real issues, nothing will change. Poverty has nothing to do with being held accountable or responsible for one's behavior. Continuing to push the victim agenda is creating a lawless and savage society. If the mayor wants to stop the blood from flowing, she better wake up and start supporting the enforcement of the law. It's time to put the savages behind bars where they belong.

Not saying I’m a huge fan of Taliaferro but the district boundaries were drawn up before he was elected. They were specifically drawn up like that (to include Austin) as a way to screw then Ald Sposato. (Who beat Former mobbed up Ald Banks guy). They redistricted Sposato right out of his own ward and as a FU to all of the whites that didn’t vote for Banks guy, they included them in with all of the blacks in Austin. I know, I live in the 29th ward and we can’t get service to save our lives. All the $$ and service goes to Austin.

The gangs in Chicago aren't what they used to be anyways. Less organized, less unified. There's less bad blood rivalries and factions are just as likely to turn on each other as they are an outside group. Gangs with heavy connections to the cartels are well beyond the scope of what CPD can handle. Gang activity and affiliation means nothing extra to the cook county court system.
It's a database of essentially useless information for us and not worth the fight to actually establish and keep it. We should focus more on things that actually have an impact.
