VRI Returns

That was a pretty quick hiatus.

So now around half of the teams get to ride the trains and the leftover teams get Michigan Avenue.

No idea if you make requests or how it's all assigned. Someone can tell everyone in the comment sections.

Here's the email from Bobby Cesario to the LT and then forwarded on to the Sgts at Area North. Don't you dare send him an email requesting OT unless it's 100% necessary. This included him sending detectives home with homicide and agg batt offenders in custody. What a tool!

There is no overtime. We have to do a better job scrutinizing overtime requests. If someone is requesting overtime, please ask yourself if the overtime is 100% necessary. If the answer is no, then do not send out a request. If you believe the overtime is 100% necessary then email a detailed request to the commander and myself. The commander is the only person who can authorize overtime, not you and not me. Please use common sense.

In the event that there is a pre-planned overtime event, like a detective wanting to travel to conduct interviews, or whatever the case may be, have the detective prepare a to-from to the commander explaining the need and again, the commander is the only person who can approve the overtime.

Also we are mandated by the consent decree to complete all eLearning and mandatory 32 hours of in-service training. Please ensure compliance.

Obviously seniority determines who is on Michigan Ave vs the trains much like the Lakefront detail... The question is are there still 3 vans full on Michigan Ave or just 4541 & 4542?

You ride the train from one station and you go to the opposite site of the track. Back and forth. But we get to the stations in the Van's. Not bad.

Cesario yet another useless upper management tool of the top heavy department. Instead of draining the swamp it looks like Good Ol’ Charlie Beck is letting in damaged goods to cause catastrophic damage to the pension. Why don’t the powers that be set the pensions to max out at LT rank ($160,000) even if the person is a deputy chief or higher making above $175,000 or more. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.

VRI workers will find a way to be even more useless than mass transit people. It doesn’t take a genius to know someone working their day off will be less productive due to mental fatigue than a regular day. That’s why VRI will never work. They are dog asses when they’re on VRI.

Few things may have happened; the house mouse scheduler came back from furlough or medical or they retooled and defined DotCops by rattling the visiting Sgts into re-energizing their piss and vinegar.

COPA called Groot and complained that their winter quotas are down and 1st quarter projections are dismal.
So is there an expectation (demand) to come in (abandon post) with VRI related activity or is it just maintain a slathering of uniformed personnel for the benefit Groot’s political appearances?

$2 says MTU sightings and radio responses are still extremely rare.

No secret that MTU is a disaster. You need working coppers there. Yes coppers can still do police work. But the MUTTS they have assigned there now must go, the Sgts.need to be dumped because they don't supervise, dude stays at the Thompson center all day long and that is besides the guys assigned there. They brought Wiberg in to do a job now let him do it. People years back thought Angone was a goof but Bob did his job, same for Atzelon who was notified whackybut you didnt have this crime, screw seniority and bring some workers in. As far as A/N goes, CKS pulled the same nonsense regarding OT a couple years back. There weren’t any officers even wanting to stay either. The one’s who had a late job or a cluster were put through this as well as the Sgt. and W/C. Ridiculous. She’d then have a dozen officers stay over on OT to conduct a mission that achieved about 5 blue cards. These are the highly paid “leaders” with a take home car and gold braid pension.

About time someone took notice and is doing something about it. Never any parking space in that garage as it is. Streets and sans vans/truck, City Law department vehicles, ISP take home cruisers, private trailers parked since 2016. I'm surprised the structure hasn't collapsed yet.

Not unusual to get wide range of quotes. It all depends on your medical history, your deductible, out of pocket limit and the benefits including drugs. You can get a low premium but the policy might have a $5,000.

Hey SCC: just a heads-up. I'm a civilian and commented on a post last week. Nothing to hide, straight from my Comcast IP address. A couple days later, my LinkedIn shows it was searched by the Chicago Police Department, who looked me up. Clearly trying to figure out who I was (no secret) but it made me think...

I suspect they have subpoena power and are logging IP addresses here and Comcast is giving up subscriber names.

I have zero contact with the CPD, don't know anyone that works there and my LinkedIn is barely used, so it appears they may be capturing IP addresses, twisting Comcast's testicles to give subscriber names and are dumb enough to use an official CPD Linkedin account to do background checks on SCC contributors.

Watch your six if I'm not just being over-paranoid, but the official CPD LinkedIn account visited my profile two days after I posted here.

************

You're looking at $500+ a month if you're in good health and don't visit the doctor much. But that's not factoring in deductibles and shopping around for the plan with the right network of doctors. If you're single with no kids and minimal other expenses, it's very doable. And thankfully many common drugs have multiple generic brands so prescription costs shouldn't hurt you either. You can consider supplementing your income with a low-stress part time job. even working 10-12 hours a week at a retail store with Chicago's $15 minimum wage would be enough to cover most healthcare expenses.

Here's 2 websites that may help you out in your search, if not for anything else than to give you a ballpark of what insurance will cost.

https://www.nerdwallet.com/blog/health-insurance/
https://www.healthcare.gov/apply-and-enroll/health-insurance-plans-estimator-overview/

Good luck with your retirement, and congrats on making it 26 years here. As someone who has a minimum 16 years left here, I hope to be where your at one day. And hope to be able to say goodbye to this shithole city and job sooner than later.

If you are independently wealthy or have a very lucrative side profession, you can say adios ASAP, but if your only income will be the pension, you might want to rethink your position. Health insurance is expensive and it will not be getting any cheaper.

There are 14 years to go until you get to Medicare. I pay $1500 a month and that is just for me, no wife, no kids, no other dependents. Do the math. Even if the monthly nut remains constant you will be paying $18K a year times 14 years equals $252K.

If $252K did not cause you to swallow hard or double-blink, you can retire ASAP, otherwise, you might want to hang around until you are 55, all the while hoping the 55 and out is still available. Good luck.

P.S. Paying $600 a month will provide for a doctor without a medical license and his/her office slash residence will be an old, delivery step-van parked down by the river.

Its that way for ten years dickhead. Go ahead and make your call.

I'm 53. When I got hired 30 years ago I was promised free health insurance at 50. The City screwed me so now I will do the bare minimum till 55.

To the single guy about health insurance: the city offered policies are twice as expensive than finding it on your own. Aetna is only for Medicare aged retirees, so forget that option.

If you want the best BCBS ppo gold plan, you will pay a monthly premium of at least $1500 per month. Prices go down from there, but your deductible and copays go super high. And these prices are for finding it on your own. Plus your monthly premiums increase every year by $100.00.

Suck it up, find a hole, and stick it out.

OT

foot pursuit policy in the works , prepare to use the balancing test when chasing after an offender on foot , supervisors capable of terminating your pursuit....

2/26/2020 10:04:00 PM

_________

Balancing Test:
Should I chase? NO.

It's just as asinine to chase on foot as it is to chase in a vehicle. You never know what could be waiting at every blind turn down a gang way, an alley, ect. You're taking this job way too seriously if you care enough to still foot chase.

OT: Why don't they let you check the time box for VRI? That'd be much more appealing than taking the cash.

"That’s why VRI will never work. They are dog asses when they’re on VRI. "

This "dog ass" will be taking the money and putting it toward my $39,000 contribution toward my '457D catch up' pal.

2/26/2020 04:22:00 PM

You got that right, dog ass. For anyone with 5 years on & is jealous of the dog asses, you’ll learn. This job will make you a dog ass. When you get sued for doing your job, when you are the victim of a crime off duty & are treated differently than a citizen by the courts, when this job destroys your personal relationships or prevents them altogether, when you work your ass off but have no clout, so no one notices and just gives you more to do but then you watch clouted people who get sweet easy spots their entire careers climb the ladder fast & furiously. I go to these jobs and do what is expected of me safely, but us dog asses aren’t about to put ourselves into a bind for some supervisor or boss that is trying to make a name for themselves or has clout and is willing to sacrifice the people under them. You’ll learn that merit promotions (with rare exceptions) has been the way for this city to destroy the police department from within. You’ll learn merit is an infection spread by machine politics. Our union should be negotiating doing away with it or reducing it to much lower numbers.

2/26/2020 07:20:00 PM

Maybe the ACLU would help,,,, help get copies of the addresses!

If you’re on 3rd watch in 005, get ready to never work the car you want, not be on the sheets when you want it, because the worst watch secretary is being forced back into the chair....welcome back from your medical time RH, I’m sure it was well deserved....

I though Weiss got rid of the watch secretaries. LOL

For the Copper about to retire, I retired a few years ago. The wife and I were paying about $700/year for HMO Nobama Care. Working full time now with work insurance.

2/26/2020 08:42:00 PM

That was the policy with the $15,000 deductible ?

Old retiree here. On Medicare now. Thought I did the right thing by maxing out deferred. Now because I have to take the RWD and a few other investments my Medicare and Aetna supplement is costing the wife and I over $1200 a month. Thought Medicare was supposed to be cheap. Guess it’s a good problem to have, just surprised that health insurance never goes away and never gets cheaper
