As unlikely as it might seem to the city admin, the risk still remains excessively high regarding transmission of this virus. That's somehow not surprising. Oh yeah, because literally everything this department does is last-minute, ineffective, worthless stupidity. No actual planning. No actual equipment. No actual help. Smoke and mirrors. I have hand sanitizer. I don't need their tiny bottle of what probably amounts to slippery water at this point. What I don't have is a mask, or really any protective equipment at all. Yet we'll still be expected to respond to people suffering from a highly contagious, potentially deadly virus, because they can't live their lives without calling the police for every little thing. This department needs to come out with an order stating we will no longer respond to everyday bullshit calls that aren't actual police matters. Then we need to be emergency backup for CFD on COVID-19 infected people. If the medics and firefighters somehow can't handle a patient, then we bail them out. Other than that, anyone requiring police service while infected, other than if they're literally being attacked at that time, should be told we're not coming. Time to be adults and handle your lives like the rest of us, without calling the police for everything.
Unfortunately this is nothing new. When we first started getting AIDS. patients dying at home the wagon crew got those calls to remove the deceases. No gloves, no body bags, no face mask, no goggles, no hand cleaner of any type. Nothing. Got that? Nothing.
A wagon crew in Rogers Park refused to touch a dead AIDS patient. What did the Sergeant to? He ordered the crew to make the removal. They wouldn't. CR# plus rumors the CPD would try to fire the wagon guys for refusing the direct order. I don't recall how they resolved this except the police weren't fired. Cheapskate fucking City was forced to buy gloves, body bags etc. We previously used sheets and blankets from the residence of the deceased and got our gloves by stealing or mooching them from hospital ER's or CFD ambulances.

According to their website, Safetec of America, is a family owned OT pharmaceutical company that operates on three shifts in Buffalo, New York. If I was investigating the expired hand cleaner I would get the lot number for a few reasons. The first being where was this product made, in Buffalo, NY or in some other country like CHINA and then packaged here. Secondly the company should be able to find out where and when those products were shipped to. I would have a chemist evaluate the efficacy of those ancient bottles. Next I would find out who in the City or the Police Department procured that shipment. Then I would interview them and ask them the usual questions of why, what, when,
where and how did you as our purchasing agent purchase this crap. I would also ask them are you not responsible for inspecting whatever you purchase to protect the City’s employees and the taxpayers money. Now the Mayor has been touting the rhetoric that her administration is transparent. What finer time like tonight, Thursday, where she is going to address her subjects (the citizens) on TV regarding the Coronavirus,to do a little investigating during the day and tell us how she let this happen. And our local reporters need to asking her hard hitting questions on this and many other things but they never do which gives us, the taxpayers the impression the news media is complicit with out local politicians. If you watched the President’s news conferences regarding the Coronavirus the national news media peppered him with arrogant and insulting questions. Whether one may like what he says or not, he does take questions and answers them. Our media here needs to start holding our own politician’s feet to the fire. Isn't that why we have the press.

Hand sanitizer should be stocked at Equipment and Supply and should be provided regularly to Patrol officers, desk personnel, lockup personnel, Traffic Enforcement Units and anyone else who frequently comes in contact with the public. Is it customary for the sergeant to punt and say he must first confer with the lieutenant? Then these two in concert decide that I need to give them a to-from report explaining why I feel said reports are justified? And that an exposure and IOD would be completed once they determined my to-from passes muster? Seem far fetched? Not in a certain district that falls between 016 and 019.
The higher ups in the police department are going to get you killed faster than the bad guys in the street.
I will say that the entire production of N-95 respirators are being sent to the hospitals, doctors and health care providers with none left over for others. In Italy, the world wide shortage of N-95 respirators led to the death of treating doctors and a significant reduction of ability to treat the borderline case on the edge of death. In China, the shortage of protective gear led to the death of the first doctor who spread the warnings to his colleagues after he got out of jail for spreading "lies".

Nothing in the email suggests in any way that use of the expired product actually endangers the user. Just that no testing was done beyond 3 years. It is still pathetic that this is the best the city can do.
Keep in mind that those little bottles won't last long anyway in regular use. A few days at best.

You should, of course, fill out an Exposure Report, regardless of what they say. You should also call Medical Section 24/7 at 745-5000 and explain whats happening.
The IOD is only filled out if you seek immediate medical treatment at an ER, because you are showing symptoms. Your IOD will be denied if you go without approval of Medical Section, hence calling them. If you are a member of Advocate Health Care, go to an Advocate hospital, regardless of what dept tells you, and go through the parking lot testing system, like they have set up at Christ (don't know about Illinois Masonic, Park Ridge for northsiders, etc). Advocate testing is free for Advocate members. However, they also encourage that you only come if you have symptoms.
It might be a good idea for the entire watch to fill out one "Mass Exposure" report, which is now on the system. Everyone probably had contact with you at some point after your exposure, unless you were sent home.

Diluting your household bleach.
To make a bleach solution, mix:
5 tablespoons (1/3rd cup) bleach per gallon of water
OR
4 teaspoons bleach per quart of water
Follow manufacturer’s instructions for application and proper ventilation. Check to ensure the product is not past its expiration date. Never mix household bleach with ammonia or any other cleanser. Unexpired household bleach will be effective against coronaviruses when properly diluted.
Alcohol solutions.
Ensure solution has at least 70% alcohol.

Simple solution...hands off almost anyone & anything. An aside, I returned from furlough to the D-Unit the other day. Why the Hell is everyone on the floor inside? Take your department issued phone, go sit somewhere quietly in a car and make your calls. Only stay on floor when absolutely necessary, run your name checks, data warehouse stuff etc and get the Hell out. It’s a Petri dish waiting to happen...people standing around, chit chatting, sharing food, etc. What the Hell people, use common sense.
Ahhhh guess what genius....the entire D-Unit has no ventilation and no windows so whether you are there for one minute or 9 hours, you’re at risk. Not to mention... we are headed to 12 hour days, and speaking of department vehicles... they are filthy, especially the steering will. The department just isn’t prepared.

FOP needs to add this to the list of reasons why they ask for certain things in the CONTRACT. Like regular supplies of PPE including hand sanitizer, gloves, masks, face shields, tyvek suits.... to be distributed at specific dates, replenished when needed. Obviously if some guy starts using 100 bottles of sanitizer a month, you're gonna check into that to ensure it's actually for jobs and not reselling it or giving it away. But put this in the contract with very specific language and hold their feet to the fire with FINANCIAL PENALTIES such as any officer not provided the PPE is not allowed to work, but is given full pay.

You should, of course, fill out an Exposure Report, regardless of what they say. You should also call Medical Section 24/7 at 745-5000 and explain whats happening.
The IOD is only filled out if you seek immediate medical treatment at an ER, because you are showing symptoms. Your IOD will be denied if you go without approval of Medical Section, hence calling them. If you are a member of Advocate Health Care, go to an Advocate hospital, regardless of what dept tells you, and go through the parking lot testing system, like they have set up at Christ (don't know about Illinois Masonic, Park Ridge for northsiders, etc). Advocate testing is free for Advocate members. However, they also encourage that you only come if you have symptoms.
It might be a good idea for the entire watch to fill out one "Mass Exposure" report, which is now on the system. Everyone probably had contact with you at some point after your exposure, unless you were sent home.

Field hospitals could be set up in schools located near hospitals, be dedicated for people who are seeking treatment for virus. field hospital will use gym or cafeterias.
