Sick Paramedic

  • A Chicago Fire Department paramedic has tested positive for coronavirus and has now been quarantined, City Hall disclosed Tuesday.

The first confirmed case to any of the city’s first-responders was disclosed by Dr. Allison Arwady, the city’s health commissioner, during a conference call with reporters that included Mayor Lori Lightfoot.

“CDPH has already done an investigation [to] ensure the safety of fellow employees. There’s no indication that the member contracted the virus during a service call. The case is doing well in isolation at home,” Arwady said.
And the conflicting information about who's at risk:
  • What happens to the ambulance or the firehouse where the paramedic worked? Will it be taken out of service? Are any other firefighters and paramedics being quarantined? If so, are other fire and ambulance companies filling the void?

“Certainly, the firehouse has had a cleaning. We worked to identify close contacts. For example, the individual’s partner, who will be quarantined. The individual will be in isolation at home. And others who were not close contacts, we’ll be doing monitoring. For example, temperature checks to ensure people are not symptomatic,” Arwady said, describing those as “standard precautions and follow-up that we would do in any case.”
No one is "at risk," but the house has had a "cleaning." The partner gets a 14-day quarant-cation.

Obviously the City doesn't want to shut down an entire firehouse and paramedics do (and will continue to) have closer contact than most people with illnesses. But because of the nature of the job, more illnesses are inevitable.

Did you guys see the BS video the department posted on their FB page? The video stated that te dept has set guidelines for their officers on how to protect themselves during the pandemic and have provided every officer with PPE kits and the equipment to protect themselves and do the job. What a fucking joke!! I had to buy my own box of gloves and bleach wipes.

BULLSHIT.

The city is already trying to say he got it from his former spouse who used to be a flight attendant.

Lying bastards.

Highland Park FD had three EMT's get quarantined due to possible exposure when dealing with some fool that had traveled internationally... Down 3 EMT's, clean the ambulance...

Don't forget Highland Park covers not just that town, but Highwood because Highwood shut down their FD over the summer...

Why all these guys aren't in level 4 bio suits to respond to calls these days is beyond me. This is a disaster in the making, courtesy of Democrats with cranial rectal inversions.

With how infectious this is, let's not beat around the bush: most, if not all first responders are going to be infected.

The only way to avoid it is to always wear good PPE including n95 or better masks, which there aren't enough of, or avoid contact with the public. Which, given the current state of policing, is actually a goal worth pursuing... however, cops will still get it from cops.

Yea right these guys eat and sleep together. No one at risk. Read that one person in Washington infected 39 people after a to Wuhan. So no risk is an out and out lie. But as with all city spokes persons if their lips are moving lies are being told. As to the not on the list, someone with some balls needs to het a copy of the list to SCC.

If our not on the list you are deemed expendable. Should not surprise anyone who has been paying attention. Those house mice have such a dangerous job and need to be protected at all costs. You guys on the street not so much. The good news is after the expiration date the stuff behind to increase the aging process when applied and can actually increase the likely hood of catching the germs around the user.

They will have no choice but to eventually close firehouses, this will spread fast among city members now.

They cannot go against the medical order of two week quarantine. If that means eventually closing a police station once a few members are sick, so be it. Chicago citizens will have to get by on their own

I remember that AIDS and Hepatitis scares and it was nowhere near what’s going on now.
This panic stuff is picking up steam and the fear promoting Dems are elated.
Likely already had an impact on the primary election.

People get sick and careless, nonchalant, arrogant, denier germ spreaders, like the very germs themselves are going to find a way to infect people like it or not.
Keeping the host on the down low and how many people did the CFD come in contact with in the days/weeks preceding that diagnosis?
Don’t rely on the sick to remember all their whereabouts and contacts, and those bambulanceers make dozens of runs a day.
Where were the paramedics assigned ?

Keep yo’ hands to yourself and wipe down that steering wheel and interior surfaces.

Good luck with using temperature to screen for symptoms. I'm 95% sure I had corona back in mid January to late February. I had every symptom except a temp. Stats so far show at least 12% of people who test positive never have a fever. It was a miserable five and a half weeks getting back to normal and losing the fluid in my lungs and the cough that about broke my ribs. No way to tell for sure now other than an antibody blood test, which doesn't really matter to me, the only treatment is to treat the symptoms anyway. But from my experience it would truly suck for somebody that smokes or has serious pre existing conditions. I'm a senior but in normally good health with good wind, and I could hear my chest rattle when I breathed, so somebody that already lacks some lung function is going to go bad very quickly.

Do you think any of the people at HQ or the mayor's office would handle it this way if someone they worked with was infected? Ask the CDC how this should be dealt with. The entire fire house should be closed and the entire staff quarantined separately and tested. They are now all mobile infectious vectors. Willful ignorance and negligence. They don't want to admit the severity of the problem so they are lying to everyone

Hell no. They have procedures in place for NYPD that once more and more call off sick, they will institute 12 hour days......then start having inside position and detectives work the street.

Does anyone else hope that it gets to that point? If I was NYPD id start sending the inside guys on the street right now!

Rumor CFD Academy shut down ? Why ?

3/18/2020 10:11:00 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

If your not running a 100.3 fever shut up and show up is CFD's response. The field chiefs check tempature "throughout the day" on crews, the IAFF issued guidelines that CFD doesn't follow. No hair bonnets are issued as they should be since this is airborne. Also anyone who is positive or told to quarantine is in a nonduty layup status, big difference from duty layup. The firehouse that member tested positive exchanges oxygen tanks that ambulances and all fire engine/trucks use and breathing air that all firefighters use. There were SEVERAL different ambulances and engine/truck companies that were in that firehouse when the infected member worked and after. Also EMS is dealing with increasing hostile family/friends when told the hospitals are not allowing visitors due to this virus.

Same here. I was sick at the same time. Had to go to the hospital three times for coughing and was given breathing treatments. Took 10 weeks to over come it. This virus has been here for a while and we weren’t told shit.
