Academy Closed for Classes

Lurching from one crisis to the next without a coherent plan in sight:
  • SCC,

Academy closed, recruits headed to the Districts. Promotional classes put on hold and everyone headed back to the assignments. Academy Staff told to be prepared to head to the streets. Not sure where though.

    Stay safe.
What new and exciting unplanned reactions will the rest of the day hold?

Well, a few birdies have told us that 12-hour days are here shortly along with cancelled days off. Lots of cancelled days off.

And an e-mailer tells us this:
  • If civilian employees run out of sick time or personal days, the Department is advancing them additional time to take off. In other words, they don't have to have the time earned on the books - they can take it and bank it later to "pay back" the city.
That seems ripe for abuse.

Those aren’t the only shakeups coming either.

Hang on as the department plunges further into inefficiency and takes steps backwards.
If you thought the titanic had already sunk- brace yourselves for upcoming changes. Going to be a wild ride, led by people who have no idea what they are talking about. Not even just bad for the police department, but it spells trouble for the city itself, and crime trends for the future.

Remember the H1N1 Pandemic? I Don’t Either

The World Health Organization declared swine flu a pandemic in June 2009. President Obama didn’t declare it a national emergency for four months, until October 2009. House Democrats introduced ObamaCare in July 2009, in the midst of this pandemic. The last thing they wanted was any distraction, shifting focus to the healthcare system they were trying to take over.
In contrast, the WHO declared coronavirus a pandemic on March 11. Two days later on March 13, President Trump declared it a national emergency. Two days versus four months. Yet if you watch cable news, it’s Trump who doesn’t know what he is doing and is dropping the ball. What a difference a president makes.

What exactly are the recruits going to do in the district? Such a stupid plan. The teachers got a two week paid vacation and get to sit home. Now, maybe the rest of us who are certified law enforcement can’t sit home but what’s the point in having recruits in the district? To do exactly what? There’s a few hundred, compared to thousands of teachers sitting on their asses at home. Jesus Christ, send them home for a few weeks and if the shit hits the fan, then you can deploy them to direct traffic. But, for now, they’ll be useless other than to jam up already full district parking lots.

I'm still trying to figure out WTF is so bad about this illness to crash the entire economy and country over? Unless your very old and sick you have nothing to worry about other then a few shitty days with a temperature and Fatfuckerster shuts down the entire state?

Hey Groot try this, "The Salt Lake City Police Department responded to the coronavirus by asking “all criminal activities/nefarious behavior to cease until further notice. We appreciate your anticipated cooperation in halting crime & thank criminals in advance.” Oh Facebook, what would they do without it. It's suppose to be a joke, Larry.

New recruits, who would want the job now. Did these kids actually pass the psychological? Got to wonder about their mental state to sign on to the CPD in 2020.

Beck, the true leader. Put them in the districts, brilliant. The silent non-leader waiting her commands. The bosses running around like Keystone Cops or the Stooges. I'd much prefer Moe, Larry and Curly to Groot, Chuck and the merit hacks. Clown World, the Chicago Way continues in technicolour.

Don't worry citizens of Chicago, the little pompous toad is driving the bus, never mind that she has no map, no plan. What are other police departments doing proactively, what are other 911 centers doing? Likely much more than this democratic utopia. I was thinking of how this will hit the homeless masses around the country, particularly on the west coast. Larry exclaims, "Just close everything and wake me in September".

Dear I smell a rat...

When the health care systems / hospitals are over run with “old and sick” people and all the ventilators are in use. What will car accident victims use? What will the people that survive every year from accidental injuries, gunshots, illnesses and cancers that depend on a hospital system that is equipped and fully staffed do? An overwhelmed hospital system will effect everyone. I pray your healthy young family doesn’t need hospital services if they are not available.

Even one hour to say goodbye to a loved one who is being kept alive by a ventilator is an amazing gift. Also, just a lil FYI some of us love the elders in our community and their loss would cause devastation. We don’t consider old and sick people an acceptable loss.

There are ~ 330 million people in the USA

According to the CDC, there were anywhere between 22,000 and 55,000 flu related deaths in the 2019 to 2020 flu season

SEEBS news posted as of yesterday 81 people have died from COVID19

What do you think is more likely:

The far left media machine in this country is being told to create as much hysteria as they can so more damage can be done to this country economically, which further advances the Soros agenda to collapse and rebuild

Two CFD medics have tested positive (ambo 38) but don’t expect that to be public knowledge. And CFD is going to be refusing calls a lot more partially due to the fact that we only have 80 ambulances for the entire city of Chicago, three of them stuck at Ohare, and COVID19 protocol mandates that after an ambo responds to a respiratory distress call they must be taken out of service for three hours for disinfection. This whole thing is going to come off the rails soon. What would be the point? If anything, it seems that crime is down. There are far less people walking around and on the roads. You can't even go to a restaurant. There is no looting or civil unrest. Save your troops energy for when something actually happens! How about the city spenda it's energy coming up with a sanitation protocol for vehicles, equipment and stations? The city's first priority should be making sure all first responders and medical personnel are healthy. If you stary losing large numbers of those people, then you will have chaos. Then again, this is shitcago.

Guess the bigger question is who’s getting paid off? Guess the restaurants don’t pay enough right!

Hey SCC. Check this out.

The IDPH has no testing for virus today! So the rest of us wait......

But can you explain why Exempt members are scheduled and showing up for testing by City Health dept?

Same question with NBA players being tested by who? And they were confirmed by Who?

While we respond to jobs with no equipment or testing

Leave it to all these imbecile merit picks to make us work longer hours without giving us protection other than the little bottle of hand sanitizer and increase the chances for us getting the virus and infecting our are family. This city is so doomed as we can see by the incompetent people running it. A quote from Tiny Tim 'god bless us all" we need all the help we can get

3/17/2020 03:26:00 PM

These same complaints are being voiced in NY and many other cities. No one was prepared for this and not there is a national shortage of these protection items. There also are no clear cut guidelines for handling or dealing with obviously very sick people. The city should try to get gloves, masks and eye protection. I would suggest in the meantime wear clear range glasses to protect your eyes.

Stay safe and healthy.
========
so have cops respond to respiratory distress calls. take victim to hospital. not an ambulance so no disinfection required. easy.

There is some evidence that hand sanitizer may not work all that effectively against viruses. Contact time required to kill viruses with alcohol is in the 60 seconds or more range. Usually, the alcohol in hand sanitiser evaporates long before 60 seconds.

These hoarding idiots should spend a tour in Afghan. Still can't get over these snowflakes. Pawns on a board. It's a strain of the common cold that is being used for political agendas and to get funding for the various Chicken Little organizations. The WHO and CDC need scares to get monies. China used it to shut down the Hong Kong rebellion and take the world's eyes off the Uiyghur prison camps. Italy gamed the EU into not only allowing the borders to be closed to invading rapefugees, but Brussels is paying for the countries home detention parties. And here, the business cycle crested, and the downturn can be masked by the common cold. Every wonder where all these people that have no contact with any vectors have become ill? Give a test and there will always be positives. Could it actually be the strain is not new at all, but has not been previously tested for? And if the Chinese hadn't made a big deal over 3000 old people with pre-existing conditions dying in a population of 1.5 Billion, nobody would have ever bothered testing for this strain anywhere?

The best thing is to take advantage of this lunacy. People are scared, the population might actually be on the side of law enforcement for a change. If the Short One gets desperate enough, hopefully the FOP will be able to finally get a contract. Stranger things have happened

Police and Fire just the scum of the earth:
Below is an email sent to everyone:

Please review below from the Mayor’s office.

Note: CPD, CFD and OEMC are excluded at this time.

To All City Employees:

Thank you for your continued dedication and service, especially during this unprecedented time. As part of our response to the Coronavirus outbreak, the City will initiate two important workforce policies designed to keep you safe and continue a high level of service to our residents.

Expanded Telework Policy

An expanded Telework Policy will begin tomorrow Wednesday, March 18th. The new Telework Policy allows certain City employees who can perform their core job functions on a personal computer, tablet or similar electronic device to do so from home starting tomorrow.

Your Department head or supervisors will be communicating with you today about the new policy. Topics that will be covered include:

· Whether or not you qualify for Telework, based on the nature of your job and the needs of the department.

· Explaining the requirements for Telework, including keeping core hours, reporting, and staying in contact with your team.

· Helping eligible employees obtain approvals to participate, including completing the required Telework Agreement.

· Address technology-related requirements that must be satisfied in order to participate in the Telework Policy.

No one is permitted to begin teleworking unless and until approved by their Department. Anyone who can and who is approved to work from home should do so, whether or not your function is deemed “essential” by the Department.

Reduction in Services

In order to protect your health and safety and that of the residents of the City of Chicago, on Thursday, March 19, 2020, the City will begin the process of suspending certain non-essential government services that cannot be performed from home under the new Telework Policy.

Your department leadership will meet with you today and tomorrow to discuss this decision and how it impacts you. Employees who are deemed to provide essential functions may be required to continue to report to work. This includes all public safety functions. Those employees who can perform their core job functions under the Telework Policy and have been approved to participate in that program will be expected to work remotely. Please note that all employees - whether they are working at the worksite, working from home, or if their function is suspended - will be paid and will continue to receive their normal benefits, like health care.

For the time being, the following departments are excluded from the reduction in services: CDPH, CPD, CFD, CDA, AIS, DWM, OEMC, DSS, and CDOT.

You should expect to hear more on how this affects you and your department from your department head.

Thank you again for your dedication and service to the City of Chicago and its residents.

Ambulance 38 must do over 30 to 40 runs in a shift with the worse of the worst in this city.
All WITH NO PROTECTION for Covid-19

The conditions we are working under are also a joke.

Deployment of LAPD Area Detectives and Front Desk Operations due to #COVID19

In an effort to augment staffing levels, reassure the public, and create a safe environment for our employees, the Los Angeles Police Department is modifying some of our regular services. We ask for your patience during this time, as this shift of resources may impact the public.

Effective immediately, we will be deploying 50 percent of our area detective workforce to uniformed patrol assignments. These dedicated resources will perform high visibility patrols to critical locations throughout our 21 geographic areas, ensuring the safety of the residents and any store operators that may be dealing with very large crowds.

This deployment is not a response to any specific heightened criminal activity. To date, we have experienced very few isolated non-medical calls for service throughout the entire region related to the health emergency. There is no indication that there will be any change to this posture. We have seen Angelenos rise to the occasion by social distancing, good hygiene and sheltering with loved ones.

Also, starting Wednesday, all of our geographic areas will be closing their front desks and walk-up service. This move is an effort to ensure social distancing and do our part to slow the spread of Coronavirus.

Instead of going to your local area station, we are asking the public to use unique email addresses assigned to each of our 21 area front desks. Those emails will be monitored 24/7 and routed to the proper channels. Rest assured, we will still respond to crimes in progress or a crime in need of immediate follow up, as Watch Commanders will dispatch patrol officers to those incidents.

There will be some exceptions to the closures for specific business that requires an in-person meeting including, but not limited to:

-Vehicle/Property Release
-Child Custody Exchanges
-Attorney Visitation (with an individual in custody)
-Bail/Bond Releases
An officer will give specific directions on how those visits will be handled.

These new guidelines will greatly reduce contact between members of the public and Department personnel, hopefully ensuring the health and well-being of our workforce.
The LAPD is committed to providing professional service for our community and keeping our employees healthy, is critical as we continue to protect and serve the people of Los Angeles.

The 2017 - 2018 flu season had the highest number of deaths in years at 80,000. The population of the U.S. is 327,200,000 and 14.9 percent of them are 65 or older - that is 48,752,800 seniors. CDC estimates 50 - 60 percent of Americans could become infected with Coronavirus. Using the lower estimate of 50 percent, that means 24,376,400 people 65 or older are likely to become infected. Even if the death rate for Coronavirus is no higher than the flu at 1 percent, that means an estimated 243,764 U.S. seniors will die of Coronavirus. That estimate does not include anyone younger than 65 with underlying health conditions. Calling this a hoax and ignoring health experts endangers all of us.

ATTN 8th District: now is the time to shut down. No activity, nothing more then you have to. We’ve received barely any of the items requested to protect from the coronavirus. Bosses dont care about to your health and are only concerned with numbers. Yes, even yesterday the concern was bringing in arrests. Then we’re having personal vehicles damaged....,,yet again. But god forbid we have station security.

We all talked about it these last few days, now is the time to act. No activity.

Next step? Blue Flu

I agree with you. The bosses talk out of both sides of there mouth! They want those ISR’s, but the minute you do any proactive police work they don’t back you. They split up partners and dick you around with everything. They denied an officer last year his opportunity to attend Carbine training. If your a worker in 008 you get punished. We’ve had a handful of officers who made great stops and arrests that involve the recovery of multiple firearms and felony arrests and no recognition from the bosses like traffic stop of the month or at the least honorable mentions. Way to boost the moral!

City paying non essential workers to stay home ?
Give them gloves , rags , bleach , wash down every city facility.
Mayor Groot , make them earn their pay , money doesn’t grow on trees .
Look at CPD contract , police officers might be entitled to receive compensation for any paid time other city employees receive , it’s basically giving them paid vacations.

The civilians who work for the police dept. Make as much if not more than a officer working the best. Most of the ones I have known look at their 12 medical days as extra days off. When they are really sick they are crying cause they have to use their elective time off. Those of you that defend them don't know how they really are. Plus they have more rights when you try to discipline than an sworn officer.

Ok... We'll give it a shot...

Angry, undersized, physically handicapped children with emotional
and psychological maladies who don't quite fit in with their peers
who grow up to be afflicted/misfit adults with an oversized chip
on their shoulders, something to prove and a deep, unquenchable
thirst for revenge over their fucked-up misfit childhood and a
psychotic inability to adapt, grow up and get over it?

Scratch the surface of Shortshanks, Rahm al-Ghoul and Groot...

They're three of the same damaged child taking out
their adult angst on everybody who isn't them.

We watched the interview/documentary on Groot's
"humble origins" in Massillon, Ohio...

...When they were talking with Groot's mother.

You old REAL Policemen know all about what a
person's eyes are saying regardless of the words
coming out of their mouth.

You know... Old time Police-y type stuff...

Sweet talking a child rapist and murderer
into "giving it up."

Listening to the victims/survivors of heinous crimes
telling their story to glean any pertinent info.

Heh!

The key word is "Listening."
You know... Knowing when to dummy-up...

Groot's mother is a haunted and grief-stricken woman
who struggled so hard to find the "right words"
when describing Groot growing up and as an adult.

Groot's father was a preacher man of some sort.
The inference was that the family dynamic was
no doubt tempestuous.

Heh!

Groot couldn't wait to flee Massillon for the
bright lights of Chicago where "You do You"
was more than a passing byword in and around
U of C campus.

Rahm kept his parents out of the limelight
but it was plain to see that the Emanuel
Boys were fucked-up in their heads too.

Cursing and fighting each other was encouraged
which really explains their penchant for nasty-assery.

Daddy Emanuel was alleged to have been blowing up
schools/school busses and kidnapping/killing
British soldiers in the Protectorate of Palestine.
(Pre-state Israel)

Shortshanks was the misfortunate fuck-up and half-wit.

"...And take Richie with you," was what the other Daley boys
had to have hated to hear.

"Aww MAAAA! Richie is stoopid an' he can't keep up..."

>Smack!<

"He's your brother so take HIM with you!"

Old Man Daley ADMITTED on different occasions
that Richie WAS a cretin and as Mayor, he was
going to move heaven and earth to make sure
Richie The Cretin was going to assume his
proper place as the head of the Chicago
Democratic Party Apparatus to enjoys all
the trappings of power and privilege
that he couldn't earn for himself...

Old Man Daley did good for an old
"Hamburg" who had some hands-on training
during The Chicago Race Riot of 1919

Heh... You were NOT going to rise like
HE DID and have the cleanest of hands.

No?

Anyhoo...

Just a native son of this city...

An old, sick, half-crippled Cop
with half a lifetime of seeing the
REAL Chicago from behind the wheel
of a CPD Blue & White.

Reckon that makes us a mean, RACIST,
insensitive some-kind-of-phobe who
isn't the meek, timid, inoffensive
and submissive model "public servant"
everyone demands we be, or else...

Police Like You Have No Friends.

Look.
Point & Laugh.
Leave.

If the city is burning and their are riots in the streets, then I get it. Isn't this 12hr shifts and days off cancelled premature? Yes, of course it is. Plus, aren't you putting officers at risk much more by increasing their odds of exposure? Also, aren't you cutting into an officers opportunity of getting enough rest thus weakening his or her resistance? The city put no thought into this or did they. We know they don't care about us so why not put us all in harms way.

There are ~ 330 million people in the USA

According to the CDC, there were anywhere between 22,000 and 55,000 flu related deaths in the 2019 to 2020 flu season

SEEBS news posted as of yesterday 81 people have died from COVID19

What do you think is more likely:

The far left media machine in this country is being told to create as much hysteria as they can so more damage can be done to this country economically, which further advances the Soros agenda to collapse and rebuild

or

Any day now, everyone is going to start dying from COVID19, they're just not telling us.

Numbers don't lie, Democrats do when they're losing and have no agenda to run on. Wait, they also lie to advance radical policy. Oh, and they also lie to get elected. Anything else democrats lie about?

My friend, do you understand exponential growth? COVID19 is not growing like the flu (which we have vaccines and SOME built up immunity for). It's growing with a rate of detected cases doubling in less than a week.

And we aren't even really testing for it.

The thing about exponential growth is that it looks like nothing until it's too late. Think about a a pond with lilly pads growing on it with 1 on day 1. You wouldn't even notice it. On day 40, it's 100% covered by them. What day was it covered 50% by them? Day 39. A few days earlier, say day 32, you wouldn't have barely been able to see it.

This thing is not the flu. Anyone still comparing it to the flu is a moron or still hasn't been deprogrammed from the talking heads at Fox that are getting taken off the air because it will be embarrassing to have them there with bodies piling up in every major city in the country. Because that's exactly what has happened in other places that have had this come through without people doing anything about it.

Everyone is not going to die. The rate of mortality is small when compared to all those infected. But when everyone gets infected- which is what is happening with this thing- even a small mortality rate is astounding and will easily take out the medical system. It's already happening in NY. Talk to nurses there.

To the great on the front line members of the CPD. Note, after a week of working 12 hour days, your sleep pattern will suffer, also eating a meal in a half hour and it being junk food, your body and immune system will decrease and keep decreasing until you have the immune system of an elder with heart issues, having high sugar levels, and organ failures.
Put in the daily stress factor you endure, not from the public, but supervisors that have the sense of a piss-ant.
These alleged leaders will eat well, sleep well, laugh, and laugh at your suffering. The city and these moron internet MBA bosses are evil.
This situation sounds like the USSR under Stalin.

You watched the Mayor on television and you thought she was short? How about arrogantly incompetent and pathetic, that didn’t cross your mind?

Those aren’t the only shakeups coming either.

Hang on as the department plunges further into inefficiency and takes steps backwards.
If you thought the titanic had already sunk- brace yourselves for upcoming changes. Going to be a wild ride, led by people who have no idea what they are talking about. Not even just bad for the police department, but it spells trouble for the city itself, and crime trends for the future.

Retirement can’t come soon enough.

3/17/2020 12:20:00 AM

The rumor of the day is CPD Department of Personnel has been ordered not to approve any retirements until a cure has been found for COVID-19...

**That's ok....Just go and sit on the medical until your ready to go...its the City Way!!!
Everyone does it.

"I pride myself in never having used the medical in 17 years, but if the department enacts this draconian schedule, I will hit the medical damnit."

I did not use the medical for 30 years. Was always told by the old timers that I was crazy. But, it was the way I was brought up. You work hard and do your best that you can do. Two years after retirement the rahm cancels my free for life health insurance. To me it seems like I gave so much and got shit on. Oh well it's my own fault.

when the quarantine comes no real need for 12 hour shifts as there will be no crime to speak of when the cta is shut down to keep people from moving around.

should solve the parking problem too.

Mayor can help save pension fund by eliminating all ranks above Lt. in the 90's Lt.'s ran watches , only 5 captains remained . 95% of all command staff were Lt.'s
allow Lt' Rank to run CPD , perks are a car , office , better hours with a yearly non pensionable bonus based on performance .

3/17/2020 02:05:00 PM

Yes, they tried it and it flopped because one lieutenant was supposedly in charge which didn't go over good with the other two on the watch.

Unpopular opinion; it's our responsibility to take care of each other, especially PPOs/recruits. Take some personal initiative and reach-out to a recruit. Teach them something that they won't get in the academy.

3/17/2020 04:27:00 PM

Yup; unpopular is right. According to the orders, the only ones PPOs on their cycles can work with are FTOs or sergeants or sit in the corner at the desk playing on their phone. No one can work out of grade anymore. Therefore, me and my 30 years experience mean nothing to the department. So, I leave the teaching to the FTOs. Do I like to be this way? No, but I'm giving the city what they want. Sorry recruits.

CPD is so dysfunctional. 12 hour days and RDO's canceled will expose the police to increased Corona virus. It is very dangerous and unsafe. Police will get overtired, hurt, or even killed. The more exposure to humans, the greater your risk of being infected by the Corona virus.

So the academy has a Lt.
Who thinks he is the only one that can deal with this threat and he's gods gift to the operation section, but we see different, he cant handle stress, he thinks he the smartest person in the room, and the bottom line is we dont trust or respect him
Go blow smoke to your range buddies

Do you read what you write. Our contract is the last thing on the mayors mind. With the virus and lost revenue and stock market we don’t even exist and city is losing money now. Anticipated tax revenue is gone. Bar, restaurant, theater sports gambling revenue and taxes are gone

Garbage collection is conducted by City of Chicago employees, it is the recycling collection that is done by a private contractor.

Civilians have been able to use up to 84 future hours medical time. They don't get SIF and some units very limited overtime if any.

3/17/2020 08:03:00 PM

Maybe they should have planned better and not used their "discretionary" days and saved them for a possible medical incident in the future.

If it wasn't for our Democrat system, they would be in a permanent never work status.
