Even Less Money

  • The city of Chicago will ease up on its debt collection practices to give people a break on certain ticket violations as part of an effort to help residents amid the coronavirus outbreak, Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced Wednesday.

Through at least April 30, Lightfoot said the city will suspend booting, late fees and defaults on payment plans for all city debts, and is suspending city debt checks for ride-share and taxi drivers, she said. The city also will be limiting ticketing, towing and impounding solely to what she said are public safety-related issues.
Does anyone realize that all this money will have to be made up somewhere, somehow, some way? Layoffs, wage freezes, service cuts, un-payable bonds, maybe even defaults.

The City is going to have to reverse its no-pay bills policy. Money is going to have to come from somewhere.

Unless the whole virus hysteria is an orchestrated plan to collapse the economy and just wipe out the debt. Including pensions.

Other than elderly people with health issues the virus has not proven to be the mass killer it is hyped to be. We should know in 2-3 weeks if it is or not. If the bodies aren't stacking up, the political leaders should relax and let normal return.

City, county and state are about to get pounded. They’re all financially precarious from decades of Democratic mismanagement and cannot weather the economic hyped-caused recession that the leftists have been praying for to make Trump look bad. Be careful what you wish for.

Illinois citizens will be left with a faltering economy and massive tax bills that will go higher and higher. The exodus of taxpayers will accelerate and cities will soon look like Harvey, where half the population doesn’t even bother to pay property tax any more - the houses are worthless and what little that gets collected goes directly to retired city workers.

As we learn again from yesterday’s election results, this is what the people want.

Don't worry its just something else they will try and get the Federal government to pay for. When they don't they can blame Trump for that to. After all he is the one that caused the infection to spread according to sleepy Joe.

So speaking of a loss of revenue. Went to pick up some things from my kids college dorm room as her school is shut down. Took 355 with my truck which doesn’t have an I-pass for tolls so I go to the cash lanes. The attendant booth was closed and the automated lane would not accept cash, change or credit cards. In the automated lane there is a sign that says “Out of service systemwide, Drive thru and pay online”. So when I get home I go online to pay and low and behold the website says I need the location of toll booths. Well I went “thru” several and didn’t happen to write down their locations as it was pouring rain and traffic was moving at 70 mph! They also have some alternative way of paying where you are supposed to calculate your trip distance which is ridiculous. Now I guess I have to wait to see if the camera actually caught my plate as I drove “thru”. 355 isn’t that old of a tollway so I wonder how much was spent building the cash lanes of the toll booths that can’t be used! What an incredibly fucked up state we have.

If we do go into lockdown, how much does that save the City per day in revenue? Might be an opportunity to shore up our pension fund with the savings. Never let a crisis go to waste, remember?

DJT is going to provide a stimulus payment to everyone not just to IRS compliant taxpayers. Guess where those dollars are going to have to go? Not to washers and dryers, paint and clothing but more local taxes to make up for Larri’s Handouts Program.
When will the people paying real estate taxes get relief ?
Never.

Water bill is due March 25th, and still the lead is in the old underground main pipes no better, maybe worse than last years water. The Late Penalty is 1.25% per month compounded.
Here’s a novel idea FOP contract negotiators: a Late penalty for the city ignoring, stalling negotiations which they always do. Retroactive pay isn’t enough when the City always intentionally delays.

in the grand scheme of things these are pretty penny ante and the reality is that for the time being it is not worth the effort to try to collect. It just puts people at additional risk. Suspending collection efforts is a good idea for now. It does not appear like the order does anything other than suspend collection efforts. Once the covid19 mess is resolved collection efforts can resume.

The question is how much would the city be losing on tax revenue. They wouldn’t have money to put into the pension. People are being laid off, won’t have money to spend. They is so much less tax revenue with bars, restaurants hotel closing

They saw out of service but expect you to pay fines. You will be hearing from the tollway. If you are really concerned go on the tollway nap and you can locate the tolls you went thru

A couple of shots. This is going to be long. Parking enforcement aids are being deployed in the central business district, 20 per shift +2 supervisors. Public safety tickets only, like double parking, obstructing the roadway, fire hydrants, bike lanes, bus lanes, etc. no residential permit enforcement no city sticker enforcement uncertain on other title IX type parking or compliance tickets. This is in effect until April 30. Central business district only for the appointment unless specific complaint to areas outside of the CBD. This is per a memorandum from Donald Knox the parking manager and confirmed by the comptroller. To all the police officers that read this blog, stay safe stay healthy do the absolute minimum you have to do to avoid The Copacabana shit show. We are heading towards the peak of this pandemic and will be going towards the downward spiral towards the end in the next 2 to 3 weeks based on what I have been seeing in the major media outlets in the countries that have locked down and are working on vaccines to treat the coronavirus. Make sure all family and friends over the age of 50 or at any age with no health care have at least 2 to 3 weeks Of the supplies you would want to treat a nasty bout of the flu. This is survivable it is not the end of the world, this is not a democrat or a republican issue this is be safe do your research and stay healthy. God bless take care keep your head up and check six cover your partners go home at the end of the day alive.

It was in the news (tv, print and online) that ALL tollways in Illinois would be removing the workers due to the covid-19 spreading.
You can go online to the tollway website and figure out the booths location (and how much you owe) based on where you entered and exited, to avoid the rather inflated late fee after 7 or 14 days. The system is supposed to capture license plates, so believe me, they want you to fail to pay so they can really screw you.

Ok so the citizens have a reprieve from their fines. Mayor gives big talk. 5 pm. What she is doing. What she doesn’t address is the lack of protection. For those who protect her. Once again. Nothing. Nothing to sanitize the station and the vehicles. Of CPD. How about this
Chicago Fire. Has a system that they use for the ambulances
Have it available. For CPD

Come on. You executives. . Who run the Police Memorial. Patrolmens Credit Union. All you Uniform stores we buy our clothing from. All youGun Shops. Everyone the police support and do business with.

Can you donate the money to help get those gloves masks. Sanitizers. Or better yet.
Hire a company to get it to our men and women. Who go out everyday making the city safe

That mayor isn’t interested. I hope everyone. Remembers this next election

I’ll bet. Willie. Wilson. Would have had it done by now. Because he says it like it is

Moms wives sisters brothers. Make complaints to the mayors office.

Just go to the tollway website and trace your route. It will let you know how many tolls you owe. FYI the fine is $40 per missed toll and you have exactly 7 days to pay before incurring the fine (per the website)
