My question is “What is the end game here.?” Shutting down everything, staying at home and scaring people. How does any of this stop a virus that has been around, in one form or another, for as long as man has been around. It can’t be eradicated because it is also carried by animals and there is no cure. It only kills already sick people, just like the common cold and flu. SARS, MERs and the common cold are all forms of Coronavirus. Just like the flu is different every year, so is the Coronavirus. This country and the world has gone completely insane with this nonsense. The liberal media is pushing this by showing Doctors and medical places looking like this virus is the Bubonic plague. The media has Chicago and this country in full panic mode. No one likes to be sick but please don’t feed into the media hype. The elderly in Washington died because their staff got caught with their pants down. Just like them we’re all wholly unprepared for this.
It’s sad, really. I worked in nursing homes when I was going to college. People may differ with me but this is really a matter of “you get what you pay for.” Most workers in the places I worked had split days off, so imagine how that plays into attitude. Insurance coverage wasn’t that great and sick days offered was minimum, so if you were sick, likely you couldn’t afford to be off. Most nursing home aides are minimum wage & lets just say not the most educated. A few do care about patients, but many are there going thru the motions and understandably so because it can be a back breaking job if you actually do it right. Most nurses working in nursing homes don’t have more than an LPN. Administrators are there to watch over one thing only-profit margins. Very few times did I ever see an administrator actually spend much time on the floors with patients or watching actual patient care. Head nurses & administrators would play all these goofy games of making things appear better/different when State Inspections came around. Often funding or money deemed for use in certain areas was diverted to other things to increase profit, so patients got short changed a lot on how they were being cared for. I worked for one home where our cleaning supplies for piss ridden wheelchairs, walkers, etc was vinegar. Cleaning & sanitation by housekeeping staff was usually also short changed on staff, supplies & efforts. Another place wouldn’t supply us wash clothes, so we often used the linens that had become shredded. The doctors overseeing many of these patients have little if any actual contact with them (but they make the most of any of workers and usually spread themselves out to other homes, VA, etc...). I’m a childless person and have very little family. I’ve already told myself if the day ever comes someone gives me a diagnosis of dementia, I’ll do what’s most humane. I won’t become a nursing home victim.
There’s gonna be a baby boom in December.

Is that all? Dengue fever killed 622 last year in the Philippines. I have friends there and one gal in a family I know was very sick with it. Re: the casualty rate, one thing we don't have great data on is how many people are staying alive but spending a long time in the hospital and how that percentage stacks up against America's total capacity. Italy's stated reason for doing what they did is that their much hyped public health system was about to collapse. I tend to fall on the side of this thing being way overblown, but it's something to keep in in mind when evaluating why the powers that be are doing what they're doing.
Incidentally, I'd like to qualify my previous snarky retort to a retort by noting that--unlike some millennials--I'm well aware that not all boomers are psychotic ex-hippies who declared war on the world when their fairy tale died at Altamont. Indeed, this being primarily a cop site I doubt that there are very many locals who fit that bill and I'm generally quite enamored with what the old timers accomplished with last-gen tools and so much less fake money. But there's just no getting around the fact that most of today's dysfunction is being steered by a bunch of old white guys who never outgrew the 1960s so I find the whole millennials v boomers thing rather karmic.

There is no punishment for not swiping and there never will be because #1, they will never give enough effort to fully enforce the rules. #2, they've yet to figure out how the clouted will be exempt from swiping but regular people won't. Went shopping the other day at Costco. Picked up the things I needed but was surprised by the "hoarders" rolling out pallets of water and toilet paper. Saw the news tonight and they were showing pictures of empty shelves at numerous stores around the area. This is a GOOD thing. It shows people what would happen with a Democratic Socialist like Bernie in charge. Long lines and nothing on the shelves.

Back in September, cracks began to show in the banking sector in America.The Fed began daily repo operations to facilitate intrabank lending...basically, liquidity was drying up and banks didn't want to lend to each other because they know how dirty the books are (think of it as a game of musical chairs where nobody want to get stuck when the music stops). The whole thing most likely got triggered by a bank crisis in Europe, probably with Deutsche Bank, which has trillions (more like a quadrillion) in derivatives on its books that are just nasty. Anyways, this has been going on since September,and getting worse, with higher and higher amounts of repo money required just to keep the system alfoat. Additionally, the treasury bill yield curve began to invert this past fall, which ALWAYS signals financial stress and upcoming meltdowns. And here we are...total meltdown that was fully baked into the cake and it now being blamed on coronavirus.
Just because the market went back up Friday doesn't mean it will stay up, smart money will pull out and stay on the sidelines, this is not over, not by a long shot. And they will blame every bit of it on the coronavirus. They get a total twofer, a scapegoat for their chicanery, and also people can't gather with pitchforks if they are confined to their homes, can they? Crash the market while everybody is cooped up and scared, everything already on lockdown, national emergency already declared. How very, very convenient.
Don't take your eye off the ball, the virus isn't to blame, the crooked beyond belief banksters and their politician minions are and their feet rightfully belong in the fire. Not saying the coronavirus isn't bad, but there is way more going on here than just a flu bug.
