- When a Christian church in Louisville, Kentucky, was told they were not allowed to attend Easter Sunday church service in their vehicles, the group sued the liberal mayor giving the order, and the city. A federal judge ruled Saturday that the church was right about their religious liberties being violated, permitted the establishment to hold drive-up service, and offered a firm rebuke of the mayor for attempting to “criminalize” the “celebration of Easter.”
- In an incident caught on video, a former Colorado State Patrol trooper said he was handcuffed in front of his 6-year old daughter on a near-empty softball field Sunday by Brighton police officers enforcing social distancing rules. The department apologized Tuesday afternoon, calling the incident an "overreach by our police officers."
The only ones violating the "social distancing" in that case were the police confronting the father/daughter (who live in the same house) playing by themselves. Here's to hoping the former cop gets a nice settlement.
Compare this to what happened on the west side last week with "checkpoints" being put in place attempting to restrict public access to public streets. We've gotten more than a few e-mails about what went down during the week and we're looking into it. Seems Groot held a press conference Thursday or Friday and disavowed all knowledge of what 011 and 015 were doing in regard to dispersing groups of people, which isn't reflected in the arrest queues.

The Training Academy and Narcotics are manning the checkpoints in 011. They have been for the last two weeks. I haven't seen them stop any foot traffic, but they are blocking the street with unmarked Squad cars. There is a rumor floating around that at least 1 Sergeant was disciplined for not blocking the street. I know for a fact that the massively over promoted 1100 has complained about his streets not being blocked. I've heard him on the air more than once calling for a Narcotics Sgt to come meet him about street closures. I know more but I don't want to give myself away. Yes I work in 011, I wish I didn't!!!! The current 1100 is the worst boss I've had in a long time!!!!
I don't know what's wrong with some guys. Did they ever hear of the Constitution? Did they ever hear about how the Nazis used the old adage of "I was just following orders" when they committed their acts against humanity and how badly that worked out for them? Where are their brains? And why would you walk into a crowd of potential carriers of the Chinese Flu and try to disperse them? Stop and think guys. Don't let these politicians tell you to violate the oath that we all took. They don't get to just make up a law as they see fit without sending it through the Legislative process. The story about the retired officer and his daughter disturbed me. I am always amazed that some officer can always be found to instigate such an arrest. People have the right to move "freely and abroad" read the constitution if you haven't already. I support the retired officer if he chooses to file a lawsuit. The arresting officer chose not to use any common sense, and should be burned. The retired officers daughters memory will always have the image of her father being handcuffed in front of her.
When I worked, I called these type of officers "robots" They operated on programming only, and made no provision for common sense. The most important tool in an officers tool box IMHO.
I was working with a young officer on a nice summer day on the west side and was in the passenger seat when he saw a young boy running with a pack of cigarettes in his hand. He curbed the vehicle, got out and in seconds had the boy in handcuffs. The neighbors started to come out and question what was going on. Finally, the boys parents came out and informed the police (Us) that they had told him to go out to the family car, and get their cigarettes. I told my partner to take the handcuffs off immediately, got in the car and chewed him a new asshole for being such an idiot. I refused to ever work with that officer again, but heard that he never learned anything from that incident and continued to be troublesome in his decision making.
Be care full when you are working with a new officer who doesn't have a regular partner yet, and when you are right, know it and do the right thing.

I can imagine the department happily sawing off the branch that over-zealous officers are hanging from. "How did that man get our uniform?" is nothing new. When the shysters come looking I can't imagine Groot standing behind 'her' police department.

Just look who leads by example. When’s the last time you heard a superintendent differ in opinion from the mayor? When’s the last time you heard a superintendent call out the community or cite actual law on the books? Our exempts are almost always multi merits before having achieved exempt rank for a reason. They follow not lead. Merit promotion was intentionally created to destroy any esprit de corps within the police department. This is why us having a Union is almost a futile effort. Merit needs to be put on the bargaining table, either reduced or abolished.
Some of these rules by politicians are idiotic and send mixed messages. So the lakefront trail is closed, but you have a governor who tells people it’s ok to go out for a walk. You know what I’ve noticed, congested sidewalks in neighborhoods along the lakefront because where the Hell else they going to walk or run? The damn sidewalks which are far more limited in space. Just stupid.
Since the AIDS epidemic started in the 1980's 32 million people have died from it, and there were 75 million that had become infected with the AIDS virus, today 37 million are living with the AIDS virus.

Right now the American public is giving the government and the police some leeway with our civil rights. However, the longer people are putting up with this disruption in their lives, the longer legitimate people are not working and struggling to pay bills, the greater the chance the American people will turn against the government. And who of the government is most accessible to the populace? The police.
It pains me to see Officers doing the bidding of rabid liberals. It doesn't matter where you are and what community you serve, law enforcement is still the mortal enemy of liberal democrats. Devil's advocate--I am in no way defending any overzealous "social distancing" gestapo tactics--but doesn't the Colorado incident seem a little opportunistic on the part of the ex-CSP guy? All I have seen is the media and his video statement, no body cam or footage of the whole incident.
My understanding is the park was supposed to be closed to everyone, and this guy just didn't agree with that. I can't help but think this started as a couple of coppers letting them know the park was closed and he dug in his heels to argue the point. Guy is a 33 year old ex-cop and he can't understand the other officers viewpoint and the unique situation everyone is dealing with?
I have 20+ years on (not CPD, but Chicago area ISP), and I know of a couple of guys in my time that just decided this job wasn't for them and left to do something else. But most of the ones I know of who left mid career did so involuntarily due to some discipline issues. Then he posts another video with his tiny daughter on his lap talking about how traumatized she is? I can't help but think there would be an interesting story or two from his time with the CSP.
Again, not justifying any of us becoming nazis, it's just this particular situation stinks of a disgruntled ex-CSP guy looking for a lawsuit payout or trying to start his own chapter of "copblock".
Just my two cents. Gonna go sit in a median somewhere now.

Anyone who believes that these "leaders" will relinquish their new-found power, also would believe that the same elected officials would also willingly impose term limits for themselves. They WILL use LE and every tool at their disposal to maintain power and control for themselves. Let there be no mistake, they will wield force by proxy of LE and unconstitutionally if necessary. We're not there yet, but a logical and rational person can only square this ending in one of two ways: An eventual civil war caused by an economic depression and total departure from the constitution, or an Article 5 Convention of States.

The Trooper doesn’t have to show id unless a lawful ordinance violation or state law violation takes place on the Publicway. Unless the responding officers are conducting a field investigation on a father daughter criminal enterprise taking place.
Those officers should have used their heads. Call a supervisor to the scene and let her/him “step on their dick.” Or better yet, call a representative from their mayors office to respond to the scene and let that political hack “step on their dick.”
This crackdown on Constitutional rights being implemented by the politicians could get very messy...

The Storm Troopers wanted ID because they've let the power go to their head. The father told the officers that he wasn't giving his ID because they're playing softball and not causing a problem. They reside across from the park. Use common sense people! To the jagoff that said fuck you to the father...well fuck you Storm Trooper...I was only following orders. The Brighton PD apologized to the father. Common Sense and critical thinking is becoming a thing of the past. God help us all.

The story about the retired officer and his daughter disturbed me. I am always amazed that some officer can always be found to instigate such an arrest. People have the right to move "freely and abroad" read the constitution if you haven't already. I support the retired officer if he chooses to file a lawsuit. The arresting officer chose not to use any common sense, and should be burned. The retired officers daughters memory will always have the image of her father being handcuffed in front of her.
When I worked, I called these type of officers "robots" They operated on programming only, and made no provision for common sense. The most important tool in an officers tool box IMHO.
I was working with a young officer on a nice summer day on the west side and was in the passenger seat when he saw a young boy running with a pack of cigarettes in his hand. He curbed the vehicle, got out and in seconds had the boy in handcuffs. The neighbors started to come out and question what was going on. Finally, the boys parents came out and informed the police (Us) that they had told him to go out to the family car, and get their cigarettes. I told my partner to take the handcuffs off immediately, got in the car and chewed him a new asshole for being such an idiot. I refused to ever work with that officer again, but heard that he never learned anything from that incident and continued to be troublesome in his decision making.
Be care full when you are working with a new officer who doesn't have a regular partner yet, and when you are right, know it and do the right thing.
That was me, I’m now in headquarters writing our policies and general orders!

How the fuck is it discretion if he's not leaving the park you goof. You see a drunk walking with a beer and tell him to pour it out or throw it away and he does so you don't write. Thats discretion. If the drunk refuses you don't just walk away you take further action whether to ticket or arrest if he does not provide proper identification to write ticket. Once again falls on subject to comply with the simple order of pour out beer or in the troopers case leave park because it is closed.
