- Chicago police and domestic violence advocates say they were caught off guard this week when Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx announced she was removing prosecutors from the domestic violence courthouse for 14 days after an employee tested positive for the coronavirus.
Except in the most violent cases, prosecutors have stopped accepting criminal complaints from people seeking the arrest of their alleged abusers. Instead, they are being directed to petition in civil court for emergency orders of protection, then return in two weeks for a review by prosecutors.
The cutbacks come as hotline calls are ticking up amid the stay-at-home order and the stresses caused by the coronavirus outbreak.
Everyone stuck inside, in close proximity to those who know exactly how to get on nerves for weeks already and weeks to come - what could possibly go wrong? And Foxxx pretty much not prosecuting anything of significance. We imagine that once this eases up, there's going to be an whole new paradigm in Courts.

In his briefing today (Thur) when asked about what they were doing about the poor souls in prison he said they are going on a case by case review of people to be released. He then gave examples like retail theft offenders and minor narcotics offenders who are in prison! He must know that these offenders are out of the station door before the officer even completes the case report. Of course he couldn't mention all the violent offenders that are skating, that might be alarming.
Yes, this situation will be used to conduct an absolutely massive change in both prosecution and incarceration.

Last week was a miserable experience with domestics. They definitely increased with the stay home order. I can’t imagine it’s going to get any better in the coming weeks. So my partner and I had to throw our all the tricks to avoid them, even going as far as doing traffic stops and searching for anovs; anything to avoid domestics.
The few we’ve had I just “forgot” to turn on the camera and figured it out without an arrest or report. The way it should be.

Hey non essential employee, the essential ones are behind even though we don't prosecute anybody, why don't you do your week then go to a different office and possibly spread it there too! They close a court house for one positive test but over 80 police have tested positive and the police stations are still open and business goes on

Yeah we know troll. We're not disputing that the actual office should be closed down and disinfected. But that should never change policy or the mission especially when lives are on the line. She has halted domestic violence prosecutions for 14 days! Open an office in one of the closed courthouses, CPS schools or another building immediately and continue on. It's not hard. We all have an essential role to play during this pandemic. She only has one (only ever had one) and is failing miserably. Funny how she still found time to get her hair done and do a promotion video though huh?

There was a “non profit” group paying the bonds to get criminals out of county jail. The requirement for putting up the bail should be that you take the criminals home with you and you are responsible for their conduct. What could possibly go wrong with that?
It doesn't take a brain surgeon to predict (1) that domestics would increase during this time and that domestic victims would be especially vulnerable during the shelter in place order, or (2) that someone eventually would test positive for COVID-19 in the SAO at one or more of the courthouses. Foxx had at least 2 weeks to come up with a plan and work with law enforcement agencies, clerks, the courts, etc. to decide how to deal with it when it happened to make sure that essential court services to protect the public could continue. Instead she focused on letting more people out of jail to protect them from the virus and doing her personal politicking. Yet another epic fail from the worst State's Attorney in the history of Cook County.
So other entities shut down or take measures to STOP the spread of the virus, except cpd. The numbers keep rising and they are doing nothing, except allowing house mouses to stay home. And when the majority of the dept is down and the savages go hunting what will they do? Arm up people, and for all you liberal gun haters, prepare to meet the poor poor victims of oppression. They will be coming to you soon, but be sure to tell them how you marched with BLM and how awful you think the police are as they are robbing and raping you. Reality is such an inconvenient truth.
