Areas Reopen
- Police detective areas on the West and Northwest sides have been reopened, high-profile moves by Mayor Lori Lightfoot to try to improve collaboration among detectives, patrol officers and residents in those parts of the city.
The Harrison Area and Grand Central Area detective divisions had been closed by Mayor Rahm Emanuel in 2013 as part of a money-saving restructuring that left the city with three detective areas.
By opening them again, Lightfoot said she expects to improve community policing because detectives will be closer to the communities they serve. The mayor announced in October that she planned to take this step. The detective offices are just now again operational, bringing the number of areas in which detectives work in the city back up to five.
Long overdue. The Districts covered are slightly different than before and the change isn't without some major hiccups in construction, staffing and equipment shortages, but those will shake out over time.

I guess this will also cut back on over time?
It was never McStupid's idea to close anything.
He never had an idea about anything.
Rahmbo did it.
So can we send Garry McCarthy a bill?
How much money was wasted on the closure? And then again in re-opening?
All for nothing, and just to go back to how it was.
Possibly one of the dumbest and least effective ideas I can remember the department attempting- and that’s saying a lot!
Detectives dumped from Area South based on phone calls not seniority. If we don’t have seniority we have nothing.
This is great news. However, at least one great wrong has still not been righted; Area 1 still has the 003rd District. Come on A2, we're begging you!
“Detectives will be closer to the communities they serve.”
Area 3 (Area North as of yesterday) now covers the 001st District which goes as far south as 31st Street. The Area now goes from Juneway to 31st Street. For those of you who don’t know the city (I’m talking to you, media morons) that’s literally over 100 blocks, 109 to be exact. How the hell does that equate to being close to the community that Area 3 Detectives serve???
Just more bullshit from the bullshit mayor.
How nice, more detectives too cool to wear the proper uniform and more detective supervisors that were never detectives. Take your star off your waist and put a name tag on, you’re not on tact. Next thing you know they’ll be wearing non uniform baseball hats with their uniform. You look like assholes.
Yea we’ll c about all that- typical city no cars no radios computers- don’t give the resources to do our jobs and part of that is OT when u have shitloads of witnesses and videos this department DONT matter which idiot is in charge they just have to understand that coppers are smarter now days won’t fall for the trick of trying to make us do shit we shudnt b doing
McStreetlights also deserves blame for one of the stupidest management staffing decisions in recent times. Sticky Buns Tunney should be remembered for lying to his ward that police service would not be adversely impacted by the closure.

wrong. at the latest it was March 2012. So 8 years. Thanks Mc DUMMY.
Hope they put the sign hanging in Harry Bosh'so office in every cubby wall. GETC OF YOUR ASS AND GO KNOCK ON SOME DOORS. Maybe then the clearance rate could get to a double digits numbers. SEPT the community alerts and lock someone up. HeLloyd just go stand on the Belmont Red Line and follow the bangers after they get off the train, won't take long and they will have committed a crime. How hard can it be? But much easier to write those community alerts, at least then it looks like your at least aware that something has happened, way after the fact. Put all the Dicks in uniform.
A good move, though the reason Mayor BugEyes is giving is more of that "community" nonsense.
Niw, kees me you fool!!!!
Is it me, or does the department's new organizational chart reveal that the Chief of detectives doesn't oversee the Area detectives?
According to the new "Organizational Chart," Area detectives (and their supervisors) report to their commanders, who in turn report up to their Area Deputy Chiefs, who report to Waller. "Bureau of Detectives" is off to the side, where the Chief of Detectives oversees two different branches of the department....

I love reading your Case Reports. No offense, but my uniform can't help me understand what you're trying to convey...just saying
Did you hear? A few supervisors in the Area 1 decided to play musical chairs with the dicks the other day. Supervisors stood over detectives and ordered them to give up their seats so that the elite 2nd watch Homicide and Shooting teams, (who are mostly do nothings) could have their seats. Yes, you heard it here, detectives with 25+ years on the job was ordered to move without warning, notice or options. In addition to that, the supervisors forgot to talk it out with the 3rd watch Homicide and Shooting Teams. It was funny as hell watching the 3rd watch Homicide and Shooting Teams search for their computers. A few of the guys on the Shooting team decided that they weren’t moving to the new elite corner, so the big ideal to move them went out the window. It was a cluster fuck and a shit show. RBT and the other non-essential detectives were left to fight over seats. Last year they made a rule in the Area Central that unless you were working on a shooting or Homicide, you could not do overtime. This year they came up with a rule to displace veteran detectives out seats that they’ve had long before the junior detectives came on the job. I hope the overtime restriction and the new seating rearrangement increase the piss poor Homicides and shootings clearance rate because it surely drew a wedge in camaraderie.

Bwahahahahah...I had a good laugh, it's called poor supervison. This reminds me of some of those tacticool guys that wear a sports team baseball cap backwards with their uniform, because God forbid they get confused with a beat coppers ha ha ha. If only they knew how ridiculous they look. My guess is some of these tact guys aren't happy that they can't wear their skinny jeans so they have to wear at least a baseball cap to look cool but in reality they look like such boners.
Thanks McCarthy. Another one of his stupid ideas that have been reversed.
The more things change the more they stay the same. It wasn't broke it didn't need to be fixed. Area North or A/2? Area Central or A/1? I never switched so I will not have to switch back.
How about a pilot program , one commander in charge of 2 units or districts , have a Lieutenant run daily operations .
Captain rank will soon be eliminated through attrition .

I wouldn’t start worrying until they start wearing the ball caps backwards, wear skinny jeans, and drive souped up Jeep’s.
Re: Harrison Area dick division
Nice photo there. If that's the pinnacle of policing now,
just imagine what the future will be.
And we can thank Sean Malinoski for his foresight.
Sean was involved with many after school science groups
in high school, earning the moniker "Sammy Electron."
Imagine General Patton as a Science Nerd and you have an
image of Sean Malinoski, slide rule holster on one hip,
soldering gun on the other.
Wow, two brand new Area centers...sounds like they sprouted 2,000 new detectives out of nowhere.
Now Larri LightLoafer’s handpicked Cheef Brown can investigate more, clear more, solve sanctuary city acts of violence more, drastically cut overtime more, save more travel time, and more build trust 20 ways to Sunday.
Seems almost like the Grand Opening was a planned publicity stunt with Big Scissors Yosemite Larri trotting out the new Dynamite TexCritter.
Look man, here’s the deal...
Closing District stations and consolidating was a ShortShanks scheme to redistribute real estate to high bidders and community reinvestment.
Mind you it’s a communist trait to confiscate property and resettle inhabitants.
ShortShanks made millions from developers and then Rahm became the next land lord.
Where’s old 021, 023, old 013, old 012 now, demolished or repurposed? Yeah the old shithole dilapidated structures just slightly smaller than the shoddy new replacement buildings.
I expect there could be a resettlement movement of the old 019 and sinking, lopsided 001 in the coming year...to help the Covid strapped city budget. Place your bets on more consolidations as it’s a good way to lie about doubling manpower.
Attention Space Command
Now boarding at Area 51.
Buckle Up - We’re Going to the Moon™️
It’s a good idea and more convenient for us but won’t make a bit of difference in crime or clearance rates.
Yeah, right.
Now bring back all the old retired dicks that used to work there over 10 years ago.
Same rules as they had, sit back, watch and shut the fuck up. They'll use their "community policing rules". See how the crime goes down.
So, U divided up the Zoo a bit differently, Huh???
Same animals running around though.
Need the old animal handler's rules to be re-initiated.
Apparently U never heard of "if it's not broke, don't fix it".
Politicians caved to the liberal left so, U wanted it, now U EAT it.

Didn’t you realize, the year is 2020. The only community we care about lives on the west side. We only care about murders: not robberies or burglaries etc. If you are a hard working property owner of any kind (land or otherwise), your concerns don’t matter. You are supposed to not only care but blame yourself for murders on the west side. Actual murderers are just victims of society. Learn that mantra inside & out. Welcome to the brainwashing that is not only detrimental to the black community but the rest of society.
The five areas should have always been open. Rahm Emanuel should have NEVER closed two areas, and form only three: area north, area south, and area central.
You detectives all complain about how big Area 3 is...yet the majority of you will be clawing each other and trampling over each other to bid there and get out of the ghetto.
Some asked about 012 moving into A3...
Putting new 012 (and old 013) into A3 probably due to gentrification and dismantled high rised deluxe apartments ?
1985:
A1 - 001,2,3,21
A2 - 004,5,6, 22
A3 - 007,8,9
A4 - 010,11,12,13
A5 - 014,15,16,17,25
A6 - 018,19,20,23,24
Area 51 - 1121 S. State
Nut House - 121 N LaSalle
Help Wanted sign up ?
If they bring back PO 5-1313, I might consider returning if I can sneak out after bed check and scale the fence here at Del Boca Vista.
Lemme know.

Never had seniority. At least true seniority. How can you have seniority with managements 20%, a hundred and more exempted units and details that last for years.
The City is violating the State Mandate for training and the Federal Decree. The Detectives promoted received no training. They literally were given a Detective Star and an assignment. These guys landed in an Area and will have liability problems for the City and themselves. This is beyond negligent. There should be a post dedicated to this alone. Shit Show! Someone FOIA the training. Hello media!
Area 4 opens again. The freedom beacon lights up the Westside once more. Truth....Justice...and the American Way.

I’ve been a Detective for the last 20 years. But when I was in Patrol there wasn’t the hate for fellow officers that is so prevalent these days.
Maybe you should seek out a hobby, or something else that brings you joy. I sincerely hope you find some peace.
IM confused the 1st line of supervision and guidance to detectives is sergeants that were never a detective of anything let alone homicides?
The sergeants still dont go out in the field because they are scared of the neighborhood?
We actually have detectives picking up videos from liquor stores as an actual job?
We have detectives searching face book for badguys? teenage girl do this on a daily basis trolling future boyfriend.
WE have detectives putting felony folders together (dont ask).
We have officers not civilian putting FOIA packets together (another dont ask all clout).
BROWN has no idea what any of the above means and it will stay hidden from him.
Now put the Clark St border back between 019 and old 023, and split up 012 back into 012/013.

Only asshole here is you. Never understood some of you young punks thinking those little details you mentioned means you’re doing good police work. Back when we were the real police working in those fast districts the bosses were just happy you came to work. They couldn’t care less about your appearance.

From a former detective:
Give it a rest & Relax, goofball. That’s 4-5 people out of how many? That’s why you pass the torch, asshole, to the new ones. Took some of us 20 years to get there. Some spun the clock. Others never had to. Stop worrying about everyone else. You’ll be happier. I worked harder some days while watching homicide guys plan their 2nd lunch & run their personal errands while doing “overtime.” Stop acting like you’re the only one working. Most are on to your bullshit. The same guys who complain about inside people don’t want their jobs.
You detectives all complain about how big Area 3 is...yet the majority of you will be clawing each other and trampling over each other to bid there and get out of the ghetto.
Actually Area north/3 cleared out during the bids. Don't know were you're getting this nonsense from.
There was no reason to close two areas and three districts,Rahm was a STROKE!!!!

I'll say if you quit even investigating homicides (other than the original case report), and put all your effort into investigation (and prosecuting) robberies and burglaries ... we'd be MORE successful in dropping the murder rate.
If we saw the true murder clearance rate, where an offender was actually charged (not CCX'ed) - we'd be knocked off our feet.
Broken windows theory - Wikipedia
The theory was introduced in a 1982 article by social scientists James Q. Wilson and George L. Kelling. It was further popularized in the 1990s by New York City police commissioner William Bratton and Mayor Rudy Giuliani, whose policing policies were influenced by the theory.
NYC murder rate https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crime_in_New_York_City#Murders_by_year
1990 - 2245 murders
2018 - 289 murders
Sure there are differences between cities. For one NYC has 3x the police and the geography is only 1.5x ours. That twice as many cops per square mile. But even with that - we should copy what works. Why try to reinvent the wheel? Ya, McDUMMY renamed our youth guys Special Victim's Unit and our detective areas - Bureaus. That's not quite what I'm talking about. I think a large part of our problem is Cook County - and that ain't gonna change. If they won't prosecute they won't prosecute. I remember long ago having a burglary case where I spotted the offender walking out of the gangway with the X-Box. No charges because I did not see him walking out of the actual residence. Sadly, I have become used to this threshold for charging over the years. Do you think he'd be charged with homicide if there has been a dead body in the house? HMMM ... I really do wonder.
Don't worry... The A3 Co has your back

It’s not “junior detective” it’s the Better Detective! Me, I’m better at this job than you pooch that’s why I get the good desk, good chair, the OT, wait- I get all the overtime.
Signed, the guy now sitting in your seat
What happened to Beck’s plan of a Central Homicide Unit out of Holman SQ with all of the detectives had picked for their investigative expertise?
What ever happened to the Evidence Recovery Team in the Forensic Unit that was supposed to work only homicides and be modeled with equipment and training equal the FBIs Evidence Recovery Team?
The areas should have NEVER been closed, same as the three districts. The areas as the districts should have never been closed.
