So the Department is finally issuing uniform masks. You have to sign for them and you have to wear them. You don't get a fancy one like Groot has. Here's a picture of the plain masks:

Masks offer absolutely no protection from contracting Corona, but it can make you sick and nauseous from breathing in your own breath (carbon dioxide). I haven't worn a mask at any store I've been to and it's funny to watch people point fingers and stare. I also haven't been asked by store personnel to wear one, but if they did I would politely refuse and if they insisted then I would leave the merchandise I was buying right in the cart and leave.
Isn't it interesting that what we really have going on here is a form of Sharia Law. The only thing we're all missing is the hijab!

6. If you cannot wash the mask, either dispose of it, or leave it in the open air for several days to kill the viruses. (This doesn't do much for the mucus and exhalations built up inside the mask.)

A mask that’s not a N95 mask was never for the protection of the user. It’s to prevent the user from spreading the virus if they are an asymptotic carrier. The more who wear masks, the possible transmission infections is reduced by an exponential factor. But you already knew this because you’re an economist, political scientist, social scientist, mathematician, constitutional scholar, and of course an epidemiologist.
They specifically put that disclaimer on it so they can protect themselves from any liability. When someone uses this mask to protect themselves on a call and then winds up getting seriously ill or dies then the department can refer back to the warning label. They don't want to keep spending money on buying us real masks with higher filtration quality every day so this will be their way out of it. If you want better protection, you will have to pay for it yourself. And I'd bet Fat boy's farm that these masks are all made in wonderful communist China, probably all sprayed with the Wuhan flu virus for good measure, as well as the usual toxic chemicals they love spew into anything they make.

I walked into a White Castle, and the worker at the counter told me to put on my mask. I complied, I ordered my food, I paid, I waited for my food, and I left with my food.
Wearing a cloth mask under your medical grade mask will increase the life of your medical grade mask. Cloth masks need to be laundered regularly. Wearing a mask does not increase your risk of infection. It will lower the risk of you spreading and infection.
The masks and face coverings are theatrical gimmicks for the Karens and deranged scolds who say they "believe in science" but don't understand either science or rational thinking.
Unless you're using the high grade medical gear, the masks/coverings do not stop the spread of the pathogen. But the hysterics need rules, even bad ones, to comfort them because they are insane.

Yeah, not a lot of respect for someone who is a “TV” doctor and has spent most of her career which amounts to about a whole 5 years of practice as a cardiologist not an infectious disease doctor.

Single layer cloth masks are useless, worse than that - they're dangerous because they give the wearer a false sense of security, and breathing deeper through the mask results in drawing in more contaminants, and if one is infected - then expelling more. Washing those things only makes the gaps larger in the material so it becomes LESS effective.
Read this recent paper out of the Univ of Chicago regarding the types of cloth and combinations thereof which approach or exceed N95 filtration. Page F, table 1, column 1 is what you want to focus on if you're not into the technical-side of things.

Have 7 masks - one for each day of the week. At the end of the day, remove the mask, hang it up in the garage or someplace out of the way, go wash your hands, wash your face, wash your hands again.
Let the mask hang there for 7 days - the virus dies between 2-6 days on it's own, so by the 7th day it'll be disinfected.
Rotate to the next day's mask... repeat the process.

This is being done for the city to get Homeland Security Grant. Armor plates will be in squad car in case of an Active Shooter. You can’t throw those plates on over the vest. Your soft body armor came with an undershirt carrier, and external vest covers weren't a mandatory purchase until 20 December 2013. Remember those aviation police? They were issued new uniforms 2 shirts 2 pants and jacket. Their new uniforms don't look any different than what they were wearing before that United fiasco. Point being a company came in and supplied 300 officers new uniforms. They had fitting dates then few weeks time they were issued their new uniforms. My guess is the same company wants to get their hands on 9000-11000 new issues. Always follow the money

The use of the mask, perfect for Halloween. You can discuss scientific theory about n95. But people have no idea of contagion or microbiology/virology.

Probably so . Unless the contract has changed ( I am retired) the city has to pay for the first issue of any uniform change. There are way too many issues to solve right now besides what color your shirt is or if you wear a outside vest cover.

The label was there because the maker's lawyers told them to put it on for liability protection. Great to see CPD providing nothing but the finest PPE for their members (sarcasm).
