Narcotics works m-f 8-4pm, they should have been disbanded long ago. I remember when we called ocd for a bunch of fentanyl deaths. Sorry, only one team up and not in the area today. Total waste of resources. All those toys they get: trigger fish, take home cars, ot, etc. give that stuff the patrol and detectives to use.

He was not happy when he found out that their is only black officer on the SWAT team, but eight black officers on SWAT Support. Brownie was not a happy camper.

SCC, there isn't an OCD anymore. They were dismantled earlier this year. Narcotics and Gang Intel were part of the Bureau of Detectives. As you stated a good chunk of them are now detailed to the Areas. I told you last week that they are being dumped. I would like to know where they are gong to get cars for these officers??? Everyone is short vehicles especially the area Gang and Sat teams.

I’m not in narcotics, never have been, but I’ve had opportunities to see up close what some of these long term teams do, and the work is outstanding. The amount of guns and dope is incredible. When it comes to long term stuff, most people in the department never have any clue it’s going on, you don’t see it or hear of it. One day a bunch of guys get scooped and a heavy hitter goes away for 10+ years on a federal conspiracy case. I’ve seen up close the stuff they do, and I read your comment, and I can tell you’ve never seen the work that’s done there and that you have not a clue as to what you’re talking about. But keep telling me more about how you can take down whole dope spots by yourself super trooper.

Sounds like someone’s upset that their dog-ass career never went anywhere.
But, back in the day, hard work used to get rewarded and the coppers who liked chasing the dope boys where in the unit. Now and days, that’s not the case, which is why Narcotics finds itself on the chopping block. The unit has been destroyed by the dog-ass Saturation teams that were bled into narcotics, and all the dog-ass morons that the current leadership brought in.
Apparently, this was started by Beck who helped in the dismantling of Gangs and Narcotics teams in LA. New York followed suit. The new norm is, if there’s no one narcotics/gang teams making narcotics/gang related arrest, then there’s no narcotics/gang problems. No reported narcotics or gang problems means there’s no need for a narcotics/gang units. This brings in the problem with hiring someone from outside the department. McComstat tried turning CPD into NYPD, by changing our units to Bureaus and closed Areas. Didn’t work, and failed miserably. Now, we’re going back to the old way. Beck comes in, and wanted to change the department into LAPD. Which, with the obvious changes, is going to fail miserably. Now, Brown’s trying to bring in his bullshit “Community Policing” strategy which also will fail miserably.
Then you have the problem of hiring from in house. The new “leadership” in this department borderlines on incompetent. All the decent bosses have been forced out and we’re left with the people who have absolutely NO IDEA on how to run a police department. Unfortunately, there will be a major incident in this city, and god help us all. The people in charge are eventually going to promote their friends once the merit process continues. And the city will be continue further into the hole we find ourselves in now. I used to love being the police. Now I look at the new generation of coppers and can’t wait to retire. The standards of CPD have dropped so much that I wouldn’t rely on any of these FNG’s having my back. F@&k the city, county and state!!! And F@&k this department and the leadership!!!

The kiss of death for Narcotics was that idiot McCarthy.
Creating those night buy-bust teams inflated the manpower in that unit faaaar beyond what was needed. And it’s true, the new additions weren’t actually making a dent in the drug game (if that’s even possible). It took a bunch of inexperienced cops and had them making a few 3-rock pinches a day, maybe a delivery- and over 90% of the arrests were hypes that weren’t prosecuted anyways. Nonsense busywork just to get numbers, all while racking up massive amount of overtime.
That being said- the long-term teams are still a necessity. Some good work and complex investigations by experienced officers is still done over there- and it does require overtime as that type of policework doesn’t always happen on a schedule. You often work on shitheads schedule, shithead rarely works on your schedule.
The kiss of death for Gangs was when they arbitrarily absorbed 90 guys from Gang Enforcement. Don’t get me wrong, the unit was on the slide since Gorman left, but this new “manpower” changed the dynamic of the unit. Previously, a certain type of work was expected, and a certain type of officer was selected to do it. That infix from Gang Enforcement saturated the unit with entire teams of tact-babies who didn’t know how to conduct real investigations. Not to mention that previously it was a requirement to have 7 years on to get to 193, and usually incoming officers had 8-14 years of experience first. Nowadays, it’s not uncommon to see guys with 5,4, even 3 years in the unit. At 4 years you should just be starting to sniff a tact team, and you get seasoned there for a few years before going to a unit. How this city thinks it’s a good idea to have a kid learn the job in a unit based on complex investigations is beyond me. They are trying to have them run before they walk. They should learn the job before moving on to the more advanced stuff. However, there is still some solid work being done over there, and it serves a very important role in fighting violent crime. As mentioned above, overtime is also the nature of the gig with this unit as well. When working cases and conducting surveillances, locating evidence, witnesses, and offenders, you’re best chance at success may often take you into OT. Calling your investigation quits on time every day will be extremely detrimental to the success of your operation.
And as for Intel, what can I say? They’ve shot themselves in the foot, and likely should have been trimmed down a bit in size quite a while ago. Crazy overtime, and no real metric of success.
I truly can’t believe the idiocy behind this decision. Could OCD be trimmed down? Or restructured? Absolutely.
But to dismantle it completely is dangerously foolish.
However, I suppose they need to start a “habitat for humanity” unit and need the manpower from somewhere.

I heard the people from narcotics will be sent to the surge unit to be mobile bike teams. The city just finalized a large contract with cannondale for bikes that should be on the streets by Memorial Day weekend.

There are 2 types of leaders out here, bosses and supervisors. Supervisors stay in the station and you only hear from them when they have something to bitch about. Brown can GF himself with that racial entitlement of his. Just because an officer is black doesn't mean everything should be handed to them based on the color of their skin alone. But this is CPD so we all know how it is. That said, the SWAT selection process should be FAIR FOR ALL OFFICERS OF ALL GENDERS AND COLORS! But again, this is CPD and the only way to a unit or out of patrol is through the almighty phone call. So why would anyone bother to apply. When it's clearly in your face the entire process is rigged, what's the point?

Speaking of 3-year wonders, any word on the copper from 006 who was arrested on Thursday in Englewood for discharging his weapon while in front of his house, causing the shot spotter to go off. I’m hearing he was arrested and charged with failure to identify himself as an officer, Agg discharge, battery to the four officers who were arresting him, and assault for saying he was “going to kick their ass”. Hearing Tina Skahill directed the arrest. He must be some connected idiot since I’m hearing he shouldn’t have been on the job to begin with after his background check was flagged, but he still managed to get through. Who was in charge of the unit doing background checks at the time he can on your ask? Well none other than merit LT. Petit and Chief West.

My understanding is that Out of Town Brown was SGT and/or LT in Dallas SWAT. What was racial composition of Dallas SWAT during his service in SWAT, and, years later, when he was Dallas Chief?
Since Dallas is semi arid with no large bodies of water, perhaps Out of Town Brown is unaware of the Mission of the Marine Unit? Does Dallas have a Marine Unif?
Narcotics was done when they allowed the narcotics saturation teams to remain part of the unit. Four and five year wonders were clueless, but loved to tell the experienced officers how they would have done everything.Buys, investigations, paper.They were experts in everything-not!. Add to the mix the special 'surveillance' people who never had to buy because they were somebodys side piece or drinking buddy and the unit was on a slide for quite a while. Too bad, they used to do some good work.

Well people hate on ocd because they’re not in ocd. I’m in patrol and officers have had their hands tied since Jody Weiss then McCarthy made it worse..just downhill from then on. The real issue is the blue shirts do not stick together and we all lose. Why hate not everyone is a phone call and we do have hard workers on this job that have over 10 years. Let’s pray our summer is easy and we do not lose officers because of bad leadership
After 30 years of law enforcement I gotta agree with if not the shut down the down-sizing of homan square in general. So in the past we took the head off the snake and what has been the result? A bunch of rug rats running around with pistols and no structure. WHen the leaders were on the streets and within reach, if your boys ac ted up you grabbed him from babys mama and sent him a message. We had an element of control in the streets at least with the shootings.
Additionally, I was always nauseated to see the clout babies with their take home cars bragging about how much work they do. I worked tact my entire career and we busted our tails and drove to and from work in our own cars.
Merit promotion, Homan, other special units, drain he swamp!

Rumor is that a certain Commander that called his dad after finding out that narcotics would be disbanded, is not liked by the new Supt. Might be headed to a district, the Supt does not care who is dad is. All his buddies walking around Homan Sq. Telling all of us they had spots, Heard MC nuts got chopped off. You idiot, he didn't say Matt was the Commander of Narcotics, we all know he's at Mass Transit. He said "a certain Commander that called his dad" and he did. MC has a bunch of friends in Narcotics who went crying to Matt so that HE COULD CALL his Dad and see if something can be done. So why don't you fact check your work before hitting send.

When utilized as it was meant to be, the Narcotics Unit has been a great and effective tool to combat narcotic trafficking from street sales to local cartel networks and the associated violence. But too often, the Unit has been utilized by politicians and incoming Supts as a numbers generator to justify their positions and/or appease the media. Instead of allowing investigations time to develop, most “leaders” preferred quantity over quality. Smoke and mirrors...

Fact- No one gets detailed or assigned to OCD without a phone call period.
Fact -Several years ago the head of HR made a move to end all OCD details. SAT teams were then assigned to NAR.
FACT: Most People would ride their father's coat tails.
FACT: Most OCD officers work hard ,are good officers, and take risks that most would not.
FACT : Most in Patrol, that are not bitter, would jump at the opportunity to work in OCD and would love a take home car.
FACT : Some OCD officers do carry themselves in a pontifical manner,AKA fake tough guys ,but they are in the minority.
Finally, if the rumor is true it is unfortunate because OCD officers do conduct good investigations, make good arrests, and help alleviate violent crime in the city. Even more unfortunate is the P/Os who ridicule OCD P/Os instead of having their back.
