The "Plan"

A rumor at this point, but completely believable:
  • Rumor has it that city considering doubling water, garbage, city sticker and neighborhood parking permit fees. This on top of much higher tax levy on all home values.

They have been told that about 1/2 of the canceled conventions will not be booking in the city any longer. They have found better less costly facilities and much better weather. But no worries the city will make up the lost revenues by their new taxing policies. Budget cuts, head count cuts, furloughs or buyouts were never discussed at the round table.

First shoe to fall about early July provided that things are beginning to open up by then. If not delayed to early Fall. No way you say, just wait these are Democrats with no conscience I am talking about. If rumors only 1/2 true it is still a disaster in the making.

[Groot] wont be happy with her inner circle when she reads this.
Again, rumor. But we're know people in the convention industry and they are not confident that anything is going to be "normal" over the next three years minimum.

I don’t think it’s a rumor! It’s reality, how the hell are they going to pay for all the money they have spent, all the tax money they have lost and all the conventions, concerts, sporting events and their economic impact...gone. Question is just how deep in debt are these never save for a rainy day dumbocRATS NOW!!!???

Let’s not forget all the money Groot pissed away by forgiving past due water bills, parking tickets, city sticker violations, red light camera violations and speed camera violations. Max out your deferred comp contributions now! Look out for yourself because the city is headed for bankruptcy and your pension is at risk. Take care of yourself today! People that worked for Sears, US Steel and UAW members thought their pensions were safe too. Conventions, concerts of all sizes, and professional sporting events that generate tens, if not hundreds of millions of dollars in tax revenues by themselves, let alone the trickledown millions in tax revenues they generate through O’Hare/Midway flight fees, hotels stays, bars, restaurants, taxis, Uber, limos, AirBnB rentals, car rentals etc, are not coming back to Chicago in 2020 at all.

Not only did the teachers continue to draw full salaries while the schools were closed, but so did the administration.

And the librarians
And dozens of other unneeded positions. No effort to save a dime. Now the reckoning is roaring down on them.

So the city that said paying water bills was optional is now going to double the fees. But is anyone going to pay them? Is anyone going to be able to? Especially since her and Governor Fatass are saying that they won't fully reopen the state until there is a vaccine. Which may never happen.

OPEN THE CITY AND STATE NOW!!!!! Cross your fingers and hope for the best.

They should offer some sort of buyout to city employees that are already capable of pulling a pension but can’t collect due to age. Many of us have been here long enough to collect, but don’t have the age, and I’ll get the health insurance through the wife’s employer. Think of it as a win-win for the city. They can rid themselves of a high priced employee thats not with their program, and they can hire a cheap new officer that they can mold into a 21st century social justice warrior. I bet the city would get a lot of takers.

If there’s no raises, give us other things. More duty, better insurance, lift residency requirements. NYPD, LAPD, Houston, Detroit, Indianapolis, Philadelphia cops don’t have to live in the city. Enough of this residency garbage. It’s basically a kickback scheme for having the job. Let’s talk honestly here. I can live in Hegewisch and work at O’Hare, but I can’t live 35-40 miles outside the city and work in 022, 004, 016, 024? C’mon, man!

Fees will always go up. Threatening with a doubling is the rumor but 15- 25% increases are likely.
Small business mom/pop storefronts will find fee exorbitant fees, unless they set up a shop in Larri’s Racial Equity Rapid Response areas.
Something the corrupt de Bozo NYC created first, with a spot for his ol gurl to head up and nice budget.
These dire financial times don’t look good for particular essential city entities seeking contract renewals.
Larri 5-Phase Reopening also has a 3 year rebuild model...that should be about a year before CTU-CPS contract talks resume, hmmmm?

The financial powers that advise the city know that the city will bounce back, what they’re seeing is out of control panic spending that can’t be sustained, even by typical Democrat standards. The bankers and investors are worried, so this stunt, hoax and pandemonium won’t last. Soma cure is coming before July.

Absolutely no rainy day fund but a decent chunk in the TIF...where Larri LightLoafer tapped $200,000 to decorate her chamber by lowering the ceiling, doorway and desk. TIF will probably be drained, allocation solely to community post Crovids reinvestment only.

Forget convention business - unless the perennially empty MacCormicks gets an on-site casino.
Fun Fact: Did you know MacCormack’s has an ample, on-site Hyatt hotel ? And don’t forget who owns the Hyatt Empire. Just a coincidence I’m sure. I suggest you to take a ganders on googles map of the compound surroundings.
Oh, and let’s not forget about the proposal for Airport casinos too, they’re also finding funding becoming scarce in these challenging time. Bailout for the airlines to continue those new concourse terminals is at risk. ShortShanks and Rahm are watching their dreams go to shit and mostly outsiders.

To the compliant and mindless Democrats:
Here’s your New Normal, periodical shutdowns of liberty and rationing.
Flattening you’re financial well-being curve enough yet?
How do like your new mayor and governor now?

Where's Cook County GOP Chairperson Sean M. Morrison and Illinois GOP Chair Timothy O. Schneider? ☹️☹️

I don't see any of them assisting O'Brien. Granted, they have jobs and families, but they're always looking for Republican Candidates. Pat O'Brien could defeat Kim Foxx, but he needs help. 😑

Question: What is ( or will be) relationship between Convention business and Casino-style Gambling/ Gaming? Are they connected such that they rise ( or decline) together? Are they independent of each other, so the increase ( or decrease) in one does not affect the other? We were told that this was the next yuuuuge ( as the President would say) source of revenue.

On another subject , to all Mother’s who have had children shot , murdered, die from drug overdoses.
Remember this Mayor Lightfoot provides Former Mayors (both millionaires) Daley and Rahm with Chicago Police Bodyguards. Why ? No other city does this , both live in safe neighborhoods . She doesn’t care about you and your children, she also has more bodyguards, District Officers details to her home , watching her wife and child .
It is not fair ,our lives and our children do not matter .

there is no way in hell doubling taxes on water, garbage, parking, etc will come close to closing the hole in the budget. Maybe doubling property taxes, but that just signals the end is near. They are going to void any payments saying that it cannot make payments due to the fiscal emergency along with no revenue stream or public service such as police and fire will have to get cut which it can’t do. So it’s law that the pension payments by the city need to be paid unless an emergency is declared and the city cannot pay for its essential services.... which is what is happening now. This is now real, the city will legally not be able to fill its obligation and it will all be covered by the law. It's their nature to be more wedded to a place
and their "social network" than to the ideal and
idea of being wedded to a husband exercising prudence
and foresight in reacting to clear and present danger
and try and save the household.

"Peace of Mind" means something totally
different to the female of the species
than the male.

Know plenty of retired coppers who retired and got
the hell out of Chicago but the wife who WAS on board
started crying, complaining, moaning and in general
made these guys so miserable that they moved back.

"How to kill your retired cop husband quicker
by stressing him about moving back"

And the wives would NEVER consider going into THEIR
"rainy day fund" to maybe take on a small part-time Chicago
condo or apartment... It has to be lock-stock-and-barrel
or she's going to pour poison in her husband's ear while
he's trying to finally sleep at night like a normal
person for the first time in 30 to 40 years.

Lost a good friend that way so that's why
we're spilling the beans.

God Bless ya Office.
Hope everything works out.

It’s going to be worse in good suburbs.

Arlington Heights, Mount Prospect are great towns with great school districts NOT staffed by communists.

They are very expensive though.

The property tax burden is just starting to crush home values in areas like these.

The politicians are banking on the values being pushed so low that the bulk (60-75%) of a mortgage payment will be for taxes, thus keeping the overall cost of living there affordable.

Outright owners and the elderly of course, get fucked.

The Rona is the trigger to really get this ball rolling.

There is no escape within 75 miles of Chiraq.

Which of course means, people will just start over in better states.

If you take the pension for 5 years you’ve exhausted all you’ve put in and now are draining the fund. Just facts. Pensions will be gone soon and young coppers need to plan for it. Old coppers hope the fund stays solvent long enough

5/10/2020 05:34:00 AM

Won’t work. First they match our pension 2 to 1. They would have to do that bi-monthly and they won’t because currently and for half a century they only pay the minimal owed or due. What about widows, disabled children disability. Those would be on you. 457 not as easy as it sounds

Not all voters "deserve what we got". In all my years as a voter in Chicago, I haven't had an experienced qualified ethical candidate to vote for, Vallas excepted, for mayor, or for cook county president, or for governor. Let's face it. The two parties are equally at fault for their failure to provide candidates who can govern with competence and ethical performance.

Years ago, I sat in a Harvard seminar, week after week, three times a week, for a full academic year, listening to presentations of actual case-studies concerning projects in American cities, not ever Chicago, describing projects which created substantial urban improvements, with economic and social benefits. Full year, at least 100 case-studies, not one in Chicago. Not one Chicago project, not one Chicago government agency with a success story. That's the fundamental problem here, a lack of innate intelligence of our political class, a "we don't want who we don't know" mentality of mediocrity during the Daley years, and now, the constant theme of "equal rights" which only translates to Brown and Black representation of mediocrity as well, always with the underlying groundswell of corruption and criminal intent.

Chicago is a 3rd-class world city. Olympic Committee debacle during Daley #2 administration clearly demonstrated our true reputation as a provincial outpost of stupidity and self-entitlement of our civic leaders. Take that to the bank. The fact that an unemployable billionaire heir was able to buy himself the governorship, despite his flagrant lack of qualifications, despite his recorded statements in Blago tapes, despite his family's own history of criminality, and win against a business man such Rauner, who is at least had significant business experience if no political instincts, reflects badly on us all.

Pensions are gone. It’s already done according to city insiders. Start hitting deferred comp big because I’m sure it will take a year or so for this to all come to a head.

Under your scenario the city would file for bankruptcy and the federal bankruptcy judge would decide what sort of haircut we’d take with the pension. When Detroit filed bankruptcy police and fire lost part of their COLA and had healthcare losses. A federal judge isn’t going to overturn the Illinois Constitution. Also, Chicago owns Ohare and Midway which are obviously huge assets with value which a forced sale could replenish a large portion of their debts.. Yes, we might take a hit, but if I had to guess it’ll end up being the healthcare. Everyone that stuck around an extra five years for the 55 and our may end up regretting it.

The real plan is massive layoffs for city employees. Remember PPOs first, POs, sergeants then lieutenants. Yes, in that order. Read the contract.

Could you imagine all the detectives and house mice with 25 years being put back in patrol? The city would never get any activity. I don’t wish anyone to get laid off, but I’d love to see it as a reality show.

Besides conventions, Rosemont has casinos, shopping, entertainment, hotels and restaurants in a low crime, safe area. 😃

there is no way in hell doubling taxes on water, garbage, parking, etc will come close to closing the hole in the budget. Maybe doubling property taxes, but that just signals the end is near. I certainly don't see a contract settlement, and am concerned that the pension payments won't be made either.

I agree about leaving if you can but policing is still all the same today. Diversity is our strength rubbish. Hiring little and or fat women because they will get sued if they don't. It's enough to make ya puke. Places in the west, not sure where you mean but Denver, Albuquerque, California, Seattle, Portland all have the same crap. I wouldn't want to live in any of those places. The politicians are just as putrid there too. I don't think Phoenix is any different either.

I did see smaller departments in Washington state advertising for lateral transfers. But Washington is a liberal paradise of mouthy man-bun wearing SJW types and vulgar fat tatted up women all with their camera ready should they be in the vicinity of a traffic stop or other police action.

Rosemont has plenty of space to handle any convention and definitely better amenities in and surrounding the venue. The visitors would be a hell of a lot safer. The Allstate Arena is also available to absorb the flight of any event, convention,or business that previously used the City of Chicago.Downtown Chicago is already resembling Detroit as the board ups increase by the week. Many of these businesses are not returning.

5/10/2020 01:10:00 PM

Look up all the privacy issues with using Zoom. There are other ways but this is still being pushed and used by universities and cities doing court and such things. Privacy doesn't much matter to them.

"According to the company’s privacy policy, Zoom collects reams of data on you, including your name, physical address, email address, phone number, job title, employer. Even if you don’t make an account with Zoom, it will collect and keep data on what type of device you are using, and your IP address. It also collects information from your Facebook profile (if you use Facebook to sign in) and any “information you upload, provide, or create while using the service. Zoom shares the copious amounts of data it collects with third parties and has already had a major security vulnerability". But it's fast and easy to set up just forget all the rest of that bad stuff, Okay.

Cut pensions and do employer backed 457s. They can match our contributions. Pensions are too expensive. If you take the pension for 5 years you’ve exhausted all you’ve put in and now are draining the fund. Just facts. Pensions will be gone soon and young coppers need to plan for it. Old coppers hope the fund stays solvent long enough

5/10/2020 05:34:00 AM"

I get a kick out of all you keyboard financial analysts. A pension is not a zero interest savings account. They don't put your contributions into a shoebox and put it up on a shelf somewhere, then dole it back out to you after you retire. It's "supposed" to get INVESTED. After 30 years the fund "should" have invested your money and you "should" have many multiples of your original contributions. In the state and city's case, they neglected to fully invest your money. They used it to run the day to day operations and buy votes.

All in EP. If you follow financial news, you'd know that interest rates are at historic lows, people are buying, refinancing in droves. Some of the properties around me were on the market for a week or so before "sold" signs went up. If you're in a desirable area where people WANT to buy, places will sell. Tell me my 500k house is only worth 250k? Guess what? Not walking away and not selling for 250k. Property taxes are going to kill the RE market in years to come. When the taxes on your $500,000 house go to $20,000 - 25,000 a year, you may be able to sell, but not at $500,000. Sorry to burst your balloon. Look at some of the southern suburbs. The tax rate is effectively 4% of the home price! I'm retired, sold my home in Kane county several years ago. Took us forever to sell. Taxes went from $8600 to $12,900 in one year on a $360,000 house!!!

They had 30 years where savings accounts actually gave a meaty interest rate. Now every "safe" asset is at zero going negative and you're lucky to be getting 2-3% annual growth now. Colas and pensions assuming 7-10% returns are fantasies told in order to put up less money up front. Compounding failure adds up to a heck of a bill.

Your ideas are good and we’re applicable a few years back. Times have changed. As far as appealing your taxes back to 250k good luck on that. Berrios is gone. Not getting them reduced like before
Far as prices going back up. Sure, it will happen, but do you have 10 to 15 years to wait. Have a friend that bought a home on northwest side in 2015 for 220k. Was built in 2007 and sold for 465k in 2007. He’d still be waiting for it to return to 465k. In fairness the home is worth 360 to 375K now but still not the 465 he paid 13 years ago
