Protests Not Allowed?
- New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea stated outright this week that people are not permitted to gather for protests in public due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The city leaders pointed to the need to maintain social distancing in order to prevent greater spread of COVID-19, stating that this takes precedence over people's rights to exercise their First Amendment rights of free speech and assembly.
"You're talking about some of the values we hold in the highest regard in this country and certainly in this city, the right for people to gather, the right to free speech and the right to protest," Shea said during a Monday press briefing. "But now comes the bad news, we're in a pandemic and executive orders have been issued, these are laws that have been passed down through executive order to keep people alive, while we greatly, greatly respect the right of people to protest, there should not be protests taking place in the middle of a pandemic by gathering outside and putting people at risk."
This is exactly what the PBA president was afraid of, and rightly so. Every possible warning has been given. If the police are called, re-advise that everyone is better off far apart, then leave them to their own devices. You can't outlaw stupidity and you can't enforce a blatantly unconstitutional order of this magnitude.

It looks like Wisconsin is closing down their borders also.Condo Associations are sending out notices to Illinois Residents ,that have Summer Homes there, that they should adhere to Wisconsin,s Guidelines and not travel to their State.Kind of expected that this border deal was going to start going strong as it warms up.Wonder if Indiana is next to restrict travel into their State.Guess that the stupidity is not restricted to the City of Chicago and State of Illinois.

How are they going to enforce it? Arrest people? Have the police put their hands on people, in touching distance, with yelling and screaming spreading germs all over? I think a lot of these protestors are lackeys who are being proagandized to by the rich who are using this as a wedge issue to keep their stock portfolios high and want to make it a false choice between covid and starving. But even though I disagree with them completely, you can't just suspend the 1st amendment. And even if you can, it's stupid because you're going to do more damage in terms of infection by doing it.

What's amazing to me is how easily the people have given up their rights. No push back save for a few thousand in various State Capitols across the country which the Left looks on as a very small,easily controlled minority. My grandfather and father fought in various wars across the world. My Dad landed at Normandy to prevent the Nazis from destroying the United States. And for what? All those deaths, all that blood shed, for what. So that Americans 75 years later would give up their rights and cower like little beaten puppies. It is not that hard to stop a demonstration by a large group. Protestors in Baghdad were sent running with a few solid belts of machinegun fire and Mk19 40mm grenade launchers. I live in Hayward Wi and the town is full of cars with Minnesota and Illinois plates.
The Constitution gives people the right to protest the government. It has been my long-standing contention that it does not give you the right to break laws while doing so (i.e, Lefty loons blocking traffic).
If left wing governors and mayors like the Fish-eyed Fool start locking up protesters, and actually win down the line in court, its going to open up a whole new ballgame with how we deal with protesters.

I very illegal request so far. No condo association has a right to make that request. I havde no doubt that the condo associations will start setting fines on out of state owners. All of this will end up in court sooner or later and should. I wonder if sheriffs or Wisconsin State police will start to stop cars with out of state plates ? No end to this nonsense

The mayor of New York City has - arguably - the power to close businesses (revoke their business license), parks, roads, bridges and tunnels. I seriously doubt he has the authority to forbid people from leaving their homes (absent a formal declaration of quarantine on the occupants) and I KNOW he doesn’t have the power to suspend civil rights.
Only the governor can declare martial law, which WOULD allow the suspension of civil rights.
Good thing NY is tough on guns because they would be used against the rulers if they weren't and justifiably so. Guess De Fatso orders trump The United States Constitution in NYC. It’s your property & better yet, you continue to pay taxes etc on that property. If anyone tries to stop you from visiting your property, keep on driving. If it goes any further than that, well you know the rest. I would be taking huge issue with any condo association I pay fees to that would even think of sending me such a notice.
Sooner or later, if this is not resolved in the near future, some formerly sane person who has lost their job, their money, and their hope for the future, is going to go crazy with a firearm. It's just a matter of time.

Non-resident property owners were contacted by the business who stored their camping trailer. They were told that they could not have the trailer moved to their lot due to a "phone call" from a town official. .....Local grocery store implemented a policy that locals could go in and shop but the FIBS and FLATLANDERS had to call in what they wanted and get it curbside. This particular store depends on non-local business.
When we run up North I will make it a point not to buy anything from them period.

Why not just vacation in Illinois? Soem places are expensive, some not, there is a State Park in Southern Illinois that's very nice. Giant City State Park. I don't know if they are open because of Covid. , But Illinois has much of what Wisconsin does.
