FOP Goes to Court

  • Chicago’s police union wants a federal judge to force the city to give its officers more time to rest while seeking help from other police departments — or even the Illinois National Guard — rather than continue to force its officers to work consecutive 12-hour shifts.

Following up on a promise earlier this week to go to court over the long work hours, the Fraternal Order of Police on Wednesday took its complaint to U.S. District Judge Robert Dow, the judge who oversees the consent decree meant to govern police reform in Chicago.

“Over the last three weeks, officers have been deployed for consecutive 12 hour days with all regular days off and furlough time canceled,” FOP lawyer Joel D’Alba wrote in a court filing. “They are exhausted and worn out from the constant exposure to citizen protests and need longer work breaks. The City of Chicago is not complying with the wellness, health and safety obligations of the consent decree.”
If there were actual expectations of even-handedness behind the "consent" decree, the people overseeing it would hold the city to the standards set forth in it. But we all know that the purpose isn't "reform." It's the outright handcuffing and destruction of the police department. And the enrichment of assorted law firms and retired judges to oversee the destruction.

I want to give a serious amount of praise to the FOP president, Catanzara. This has been the only president I have ever truly felt wasn’t in bed with the politicians. Seriously, this is what I always expected. Unfortunately, it’s just too late. He’s fighting a losing battling, which, in a way, makes me respect him even more. I just don’t need this shit and looking for another career, as are many others. I can’t say enough about how much I respect Catanzara but hopefully this job is nothing but a bad dream in under a year.

As we can see the FOP went into federal court and made an emergency filing against the City, they have sent a letter to the Superintendent and they criticized the City’s new panel on the use of force policy. My question is, what is the Chicago Sergeant’s Association, the Chicago Lieutenant’s Association and the Chicago Captain’s Association doing about this? Do they have any comments, plans or suggestions? Their websites are covered with cobwebs from the same old stale news. Will they offer any support, are they on the same team?

I have a feeling that when these great political thinkers, behind this consent decree, came up with all these reforms, they didn't foresee all the problems that we are currently facing with the city and department. Nice that they put all their fantastic ideas in writing as well. If you actually read the whole stupid decree there are quite a few policies that current exempts are ignoring. Use their own rules to fuck them up the ass I say. I actually paid attention to the Elearning on the consent decree and immediately knew it could be used to our advantage some time in the future. I'm currently working on my own project to fuck over my ex commander that clearly violated the rules.

Good job Jcat. Did that one loser whom posted on the blog when he won Union President retire like he cried he was going to do? I hope so. If you got enough time on this job to leave, but were waiting to see whom would win the union election to be your deciding factor, then quite frankly, you are a fucking moron.

No “ gatherings” in 011.
Commander is having the OT officers watch Dope spots..
How are those properties doing that you own in 011, Commander HUD? Better now, that you have officers temporarily putting a damper on drugs sales? Look like those shootings are still happening however.
OT to watch dope spots !
Your health and well-being as well as your families is ruined cause he wants you to watch dope spots.
You need your head examined if you do any work For 011s clowns - commander and captain- other than answer your jobs.

This is 1000% accurate. Everyday Spencer has a team from what ever 3rd watch was sent there , to stand at Springfield and Gresham. Not for protesting, but to keep the shootings down. Rumor has it, he has asked these , area 3 district personal to do foot patrols

Where the judge made his mistake was not granting Immediate emergency relief to the FOPs motion. He should have forced the city to call in the guard and other law enforcement agencies. Police officers who are exhausted will not be making good decisions. Any profession will make poor decisions when exhausted. The city will stall. People will get hurt in the meantime. What judge do you know works more than a three hour day?

I applied for the shotspotter room when it first opened, back when we were told “don’t volunteer for anything kid.”

Now that everyone sees it’s a nice inside spot they start complaining.

Too bad!

Lucky to find a judge in any court these days. They closed. Open by appointment for about 3 hours, one of which is actually bench time.
Any hoot, the judge said he would put that FOP request letter under advisement and maybe sometime next week he’ll decide if 12 hour days are excessive, in these challenging times.
The judge had to run, tee time appointment was coming up and he was a hour and a half drive away from the country club.

Keep in mind that CooCo judges are subject to being dumped for decisions that don’t fit the community narrative.
Since this is a Larri Deal it could be in our favor and therefore another opportunity to upset the Maniacal Angry Toad again.

While I never worked as a cop anywhere in Illinois I have worked as one on the east coast and grew up in Chicago and its suburbs. My advice to the CHicago cops is to hang in there and do the minimum amount of work necessary to protect yourself and your brother officers. Eventually, financial reality will set in with someone around Groot. Seven, 12 hour days in a week means 84 hours of pay even without time and a half for overtime. The city is short money and this is burning an extra large hole in their budget while revenues are down. These hours also undermine calls for a smaller police department. It's tough, but hang in there and keep yourselves safe!

Well the democRATic supreme court ruled for the city on maintaining disciplinary records. It is in the best interest of the public to keep the records.

Moral of the story, this case, retiree health benefits, no-contribution health insurance, pension funding, etc. is that the city’s word is worthless, even in writing.

Act accordingly; protect your livelihood.

Solo, the union will go to court and have judges decide that more man hours demands more men, so the City all be forced to hire more dues paying union policeman. Hmmm, kinda seems a little self serving, dont it?

Y'all really can't be THIS blatantly corrupt or oblivious, can you?

I get it, you dont like 12 hour days. Ummm do you think we like doing so to pat more taxes? You know, for things like ummm oooh police overtime or umm parking fines or traffic tickets?

Come on yall. Ya cant tell me ya don't see the circle jurk in place here...

Let me try to explain this to all of you, AGAIN !!! The union, any union, is only as strong as it's membership. You want to pray for John Cantanzara ? That's fine. In my opinion, It's a "Cop Out"! Mr. Cantanzara needs more that your prayers, he needs to know you support his efforts to do all that can be done to protect you and your union benefits !!!
What to know how that is done ? Take a clue from the Chicago Teachers Union. You see how together they are, behind their leaders. Are you ready to "Stand On The Line With John" or stay home and pray for him.
