They’ve already notified the districts that they need to send 1 or 2 “volunteers” to the unit otherwise reverse seniority for 90 days. So that’s great, a unit made up of young kids and new detectives and a few house noises thrown in. The only thing they will be doing is sitting on the dope corners reading the news rags while the inexperienced and uninformed run around like chickens with their heads cut off. That's true, IF the goal of the media is to collect and pass along ACCURATE information to the public.
That may have been the media's goal at one time. It is no more. First and foremost, today's media goal, whether print or electronic, is PROFIT.
The media is exactly like today's politicians who are more concerned about their next election campaign and where the money will come from instead of performing sacrificial service for their constituents.
The media bosses and Wall Street demand that profit goals be met or heads will roll. Jobs will be lost.
For comparison, say the average pol spends 90% of their time attacking the other side and pandering for votes instead of actually performing a constructive service. Wouldn't the same be true of the media?

I have say it. I don't give a shit anymore. I show up, get out take a report, go through the motions, and I could not care less, no matter how many poor souls are shot, killed maimed, I don't care, it's just another line on the report. In fact, I feel better then I have in years. No emotion, no feeling of understanding, just how can I write everything up, voucher, get the bodies picked up, and get the hell out of here, and head home on time.
I am not the only one, everyone feels this way. It is just mass apathy. I don't care if the entire command burns down, in fact I think I would prefer it. I don't even stop for coffee anymore, I bring my own thermos, everyone does, the less I have to get out of the car the better, the less contact with people, the better off we are.
I learned my lesson last month. The nice "demonstrators" you know the assholes who went to college-- majored in gender studies, or ethnic studies, or some other useless crap that took five years and mommy and daddy's money to graduate to find a job as a barista, or help desk serf for $10 an hour, convinced me to do nothing for the time I have left.
What excites me at work now? How little mileage I can put on the car every tour. We have a tour wide contest now. Ten bucks a week per man.It' s the most effort I 've put into the job in years. Last night I broke our record... 4.6 miles. I know with practice I can get it under 3 miles. No more car stops, no red lights, no running plates, no street stops, no more of that crapola. Now it is roll out of roll call, get in the car , drive three blocks, and shut it down till called. Then, well you get the rest.
I have to say it, I love not doing police work in 2020! I can't wait to do even less in 2021.

Boot Evans, and get a judge in there that actually cares about keeping thugs and garbage behind bars. And boot Foxx because she is certifiably useless and get an SA in there that actually follows the law and actually wants to prosecute criminals. The problem isn’t just Chicago. The problem is that the thugs and garbage don’t care. There is no deterrent. These people know they are getting ibond after ibond and probation after probation. With these changes, the system just keeps limping along while everyone laughs at it.

Anyone have an idea as to how many people were shot and killed in Afghanistan in this same time period? My bet is that it is more dangerous to live in Chicago than Kabul.

Apples and Oranges. Kabul is more stable, everyone is on the same page. If not for the Soviets upsetting the apple cart way back when Afghan would be like it always has been; Gang (tribal) areas are no-go, the rest is just keeping within the lines. Difference here is that the tangos are being supported by powers in our own government.
