- A 25-year-old man was shot in the leg Saturday night in the Loop.
Police said the victim got into an argument with another man on the street near State and Monroe around 8:45 p.m., when the other man pulled out a gun and shot him.
The victim was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition.
But they couldn't bring themselves to write about the wilding crowds that probably led to the shooting.

I've traveled to Chicago many, many times in my life for both business and leisure. I've spent TONS of dollars in hotels, bars, restaurants, stores, O'Hare, cabs, events, etc. No more.
Chicago has changed irreversibly for the worse since the 1970's when I started going there. At my age, I can no longer outrun or outfight the predatory urban youth. My concealed weapons permit is invalid in Illinois. Without my pistol, I don't stand a chance.
If you ever see me in Chicago again, I will be at O'Hare changing planes and not leaving the secure area. Pains me to say it but Chicago is dead to me.

Homeowner shoots home invasion suspects, kills 2
The Pasco County sheriff says a trio of home invaders barged in but the homeowner was armed and shot them all. Two of the suspects died.
WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. - A homeowner in Wesley Chapel shot and killed two of three suspected armed robbers who tried to break into his home early Friday morning, according to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office. A third suspect is in the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
According to Sheriff Chris Nocco, the homeowner was playing video games alone when he heard glass shatter in the back of his house.
Deputies said the homeowner grabbed a gun and saw the first suspect down a long hallway wearing a dark ski mask and dark clothing and pointing a gun at him.
The homeowner fired and the suspect went down, according to PCSO.
That’s when the victim saw a second suspect down the same hallway pointing a gun at him, so he fired again. At some point, a suspect fired his gun, Nocco said. When the second suspect went down, the victim saw a third suspect down the hallway, so he fired again and the suspect fell.
The victim’s gun jammed at this point, so he went to grab another gun. When he returned to the hallway, he noticed that the third suspect was gone. That’s when he got a phone call from a neighbor who said he was holding the third suspect outside at gunpoint to keep him from getting away.
Deputies arrived shortly before 1 a.m. and said two suspects died at the scene and the third suspect was taken to the hospital where he is expected to survive.
According to Nocco, the homeowner and the suspects had some type of connection and the home invasion was a targeted, isolated incident.
Nocco said the two dead suspects, 21-year-old Luis Casado and 21-year-old Khyle Durham, had violent criminal histories.
He added that the surviving suspect, Jeremiah Trammel, 19, will face second-degree murder charges because he was committing a felony in which two people died. Nocco said Trammel will also face a charge of home invasion robbery.
Nocco said the State Attorney’s Office is investigating.

Not only did those "kids" loot the Walgreens, they also smashed the windshield of a civilians car during one of their melees. I am glad that I only have 20 months left. I’ve worked in 001 for longer than I ever thought I would. I can honestly say that Downtown Chicago has turned into a violent dump. Many retailers were already struggling prior to the Pandemic, then shutting the economy down put them on life support, then the riots and looting. Most of State Street is still boarded up. This alone will leave the City with scars that won’t heal anytime soon. Violent mobs have been increasing. There is no respect for the police. Mayor Munchkins has seen to that. We may have already crossed the point of no return. Next up will likely be the exodus of the taxpayers. I’m sure many of them voted for her too.
Actually I was thinking of coming to Chicago for a weekend of watching looting and rioting activity from a balcony or bedroom window. Can you suggest any good hotels for this. Also any that might have package deals if we bring the kids.

They did it just for fun and because they could then they rode away on divvy bikes.
Michigan and wacker 2 nights go. Car runs from police, crashes, the m/1s bail. Foot chase. One of these scholars carjacks a van with a woman inside, kidnaps her, flys down lakeshore drive, chase is terminated. Guns found in vehicle that crashed. Three escaped including the scholar who kidnapped the lady. Happened right at Michigan and Upper Wacker. News wont spend a single minute on it. Everything is fine. Let downtown be taken over. Go brownie, apologize to reporter as to why the police can’t stop these scholars from shooting each other. Don’t blame the scholars. They’re just victims of the system and have no accountability. Give them free reign of downtown Chicago.
This wont stop until the OFFENDERS are arrested and fully prosecuted for Looting. When they come to the conclusion that its not worth the time in Juvey, they will then and only think twice.
They need to make Looting a felony arrest. It's usually caught on video and easy to prosecute. If they don't expect a lot more businesses to close in Chicago. Why else do you think businesses on the west and south sides look like a market street in Afghanistan? Bullet proof glass, Wrought iron door ways and window coverings, Carrousel cashier booths, etc....
Imagine soon this curse will be at suburban Walgreens.

I'm not out at 1 a.m., but the groups on the rented bikes are all over Streeterville/Near North in the daytime too. I doubt these groups are all looking to commit the crimes mentioned, but still. My guess is that most of these young (and some not so young) people are coming from neighborhoods west of River North along streets like Grand and Madison.
I agree with the commenters who have suggested that the Red Line be closed at certain times. But I don't think that will happen, and of course that would punish many non-criminals who depend on the train. I do think Walgreen's, CVS, 7-11, and similar stores should start shutting down earlier. They are placing their own employees at too much risk.

20 years ago, my friend from Boston remarked how clean and well-kept and how tourist friendly Chicago’s downtown was. I agreed, compared to other cities I had visited. No longer. I rarely like being downtown. It’s filthy. Every street corner, there’s some rampant bullshit running around. Young men, walking with their pants half off their ass. Women dressed like strippers. People acting like animals rather than human beings. I worry more about getting randomly punched in the face that it holds no attraction to me. Completely ruined.
So they interviewed some high school teens marching to defund the CPD. They wanted the money repurposed for Social Programs. Who taught them this shit? It is obvious that the school closings for Covid 19 didn’t improve their language abilities. They honestly, did not know what they were talking about. Go Chicago News Media.

Thank you SCC for sharing the truth. I was one of those supervisors and we chased those "kids" around downtown in circles for nearly 3 hours. Absolutely insane. Hats off to LT. T from gangs. He was very patient and came up with a great plan to get them all back on the train. It worked and we were all glad that it did. Not only did those "kids" loot the Walgreens, they also smashed the windshield of a civilians car during one of their melees. I am glad that I only have 20 months left. Good luck to you guys that have years left on this job.

The Lt Didn’t come up with a plan. It was the sergeant who came in on 1st Watch to finally direct all the youths down to the red line at the Jackson stop. The sergeant requested the outside units and anyone available to maintain order on the redline as they all went downstairs. That’s when the lieutenant brought his guys down and order was finally restored by the way of a southbound train. They had been trying to disperse that crowd for some time. Every was tired of them. First watch which only has about 12 cars on midnights had at least six cars down that night. That group was gone but the rest of the night was a huge party along Columbus and Wacker drives. Not to mention the 10-1 road rage incident. A huge thanks to everyone who helped 001 that night.

These groups are a daily thing in the loop now. They go down there to loot and rob. Always looking for someone to roll or a store to loot. They don’t even care or run anymore when they loot just walked in a grabbed whatever and walked out. Sometimes even breaking stuff just to do it. Was down there on the 4th and saw huge crowds just causing trouble and all were the same demographic. Numerous citizens were appalled and wanted something done but the media is silent and Fox/lightweight have let it all happen.
Check the PODS downtown, outside the art institute was a legit illegal block party and drinking and smoking weed. Just crazy. The city is lost

I retired from CPD in 2006, and landed a job with a suburban agency; we loved the city so much (back then) we even bought a condo in the south loop, and kept our primary residence on the southwest side. two years ago we sold the condo; five years ago we moved out of Crook County. Chicago is lost; degenerated into a land of lawlessness and political ineptitude. Crook County? the same. I pray daily for my brothers and sisters on CPD. I wouldn't go into Chicago now for anything. RIP a once fine city and great police department.
It has become obvious that no one in their civilized right mind would venture into Downtown Chicago or even on the Gold Coast, especially if you are white. The risk of being attacked, beat up, robbed or shot is just too high. Besides that, there is not real reason to do so, the bars, restaurants, theaters are all closed or pretty close to it. Chicago used to be such a beautiful city. Not any more. Those days of going to the lake front and sitting near the water and cooling off are over

All those yuppies looking to gentrify sure are getting f**ked. The whole melting pot has sprung a leak. Just like when my people came across on a boat many years ago, one is best off staying with their own kind and protecting each other from the barbarians. The Community, like the homeless are merely tools used to stir up the pot. Our loyalties are to our families and those friends that show loyalty. Those that allow the animals to run wild while restricting rules of engagement are not included in that list.
