Retirement Wave

Massive wave of retirements on tap, including this:
  • SCC, just heard that half of the existing captains put in their papers in the past ten days after Brown has decided the rank is useless. Also a large number of lieutenants who realize that they've plateaued and will never get another promotion.
Now if Brownie would cut the number of Deputy Chiefs down to where it was ten years ago, we'd see some actual savings. We don't need twenty or more Deputy Chiefs when the Department used to do just fine with six.

It's going to get much worse before it gets better. Just not enough new recruits to make up for all the retirements of po's and detectives. Just wait until a contract is approved (which could be awhile). There will be a mass exodus

Is disgraced ex-commander Captain Anthony Escamilla going to turn in his papers since he turns(ed?) 50 this month? Or is he still deluding himself into believing that he will one day make Deputy like he was telling his front office staff and CAPS Sgt just two years ago before his mighty downfall?

We have 50 Commanders and 19 Deputy Chiefs.

This is all about the contract and the cost of insurance, not about Captains per se.
Had to hit the button and retire within 90 days after contract was signed. There are a lot of retirements coming....

There are those of us who appreciate the dedication and hard work that go into the thin blue line.
And then there are those who claim victory from “forcing” cops to take early retirement.

Retire, enjoy the pension, let the young cops figure out what brand of policing the public wants to live with.

Law & order has certainly taken an early retirement here in Chiraq.

Ever since they brought back the role of Captain, and increased Deputy Chiefs, they have rewarded unqualified people aka, THEIR cronies and THEIR henchmen (hacks) with these positions as political favors. We know now that the Lt's test was a joke, but you had to be on that list to make the other list. We are now a top heavy and bloated upper ranks organization. All they can do is rattle their sabers and get selectively and morally outraged on issues that they are told to get fired up on. Do away with the merit system (yeah, I know) and these jerks will have no place to go. Let them retire as patrolmen. I'm willing to bet that CPD doesn't even know how to hold a legitimate promotion process right now. Triple merit promotees, shame on you...CPD brass, shame on you...You don't deserve any respect. The wave of retirements should be every gold star retiring after being told that the Lt pension is the top pension going forward so it is time to retire. These goofs are going to burn down the city (again). Everyone now has access to the pods through the SDSC rooms. Take a look for yourself if you weren’t there. The downtown protest last night that ultimately injured 17 of our members had under 100 participants. 100?! 100 of them and 500 of us. And the result was 23 arrests and hours and hours of chaos. What is their plan for 5000 protesters? I guess they will require 25,000 police.

Who gives a f**k what Brownie boi thinks about the CPT rank. Why run/retire if you're already a Captain. Its not like there's a remote possibility of stepping in some sort of shit on the street. The CPT position has endless perks. Take home car. No radio calls. All sorts of stipends for clothing and office supplies. 2 hour days if they decide to show up. If I'm not mistaken they put in for OT at the rate of close to $100/HR. The one perk Captains miss out on here is a private jet other than that CPD Captains have it better than 4 star Generals.

You're not pushing a beat car so it ain't that bad. F Groot and KEEP BANKRUPTING THE CITY! You earned it so make em' pay!

Re-Imagined 21st Century Police Model.

Hashed göring Brown is only following orders that were spelled out in the Chollie Beck - 8 Simple Rules to Policing handbook(1998 version) of course these rules were edited and tweaked by Larri’s propaganda ministers. Just when we thought management couldn’t get any worse than Who Me, Slumpy Slumperford. Hash Brown has very little authority, merely a window dressing again like the Right Man for the Right Time™️.
The compliant, malleable, unenthusiastic, lower energy Pooperintendant has no plan, just a title and a time frame to accomplish.

They’ll wash out all the remaining tough cookie GMac era captains, sort thru the imbeciles SpecialEd picked, get rest to leave or face degrading demotion, pretty much a competitive divide and conquer tactic.

Larri is pushing discipline and many of the bosses are seemingly not on board or doing enough to help her abolish FOP.
Larri sitting back (when in town) and allowing the downtown to be destroyed is akin to adolph’s reimagining after 1933 Reichstag.
They must comply.

Captains rank is useless . It’s another 100% political appointment . Exactly like Commanders and above , the worst part is over 75% of Captains and above never passed a promotional exam for Sergeant or Lieutenant . So they are unqualified . I have said this for a long time , appoint exempt/ command staff from all ranks from Patrolman ,ET ,K9 Sergeant Lieutenant from the people that actually passed a test . You can use many factors , attendance , disciplinary records , medical use , awards , arrest history , recommendations from fellow officers , supervisors and education . Although with all the diploma mills , I would rely of the other qualifications . Maybe have them take a 100 question test of CPD police procedures , completion of reports , leadership responsibilities .
Remember 30% of Sergeant , Lieutenants are Merit , those are usually the ones that advance to Captain and above .
Remember a 50% score was considered a passing score on part 1 of the last sergeant exam , any student taking Law Enforcement classes or a licensed security officer could score better than 50%
Brown doesn’t do a very good job protecting front line officers from attacks , but eliminate Captain rank is a good idea .
Next , assign one Lt . As Watch commander in each district , have all other Lieutenants assigned to area with a few Lt.’s as acting watch Commanders and others as field Lieutenants . The field Lt ‘s would cover any where from one district to two districts to ensure every district has an on duty field Lt .

I’m waiting for this extra money and after Labor Day that will be my last 12 hour days and the last holiday I ever work. The house is sold, my wife just went down to Florida two weeks ago where she started her “retirement job” in our new home on the inter coastal waterway in fort Myers, my 28 ft twin 250 fishing boat is in the water and I’m out of here. No more city for me. I’m renting month by month and my last rent payment will be October 1. I start furlough and I’m done. Sometime in November I’ll come back in for my headquarters retirement day. You can keep the retirement star and you can keep the cake a coffee. I’m flying in the night before and I fly back out of midway at 5pm that same day. My kids fled the city in the past year and are already living and working down in the fort Myers Florida area where we are moving. Chicago and Illinois lost me and my wife, my two daughters and their husbands and my son who is now a Florida state trooper as of three months ago. Leave this state. Leave now.

You don’t need captains. Have an administrative district Lt with an admin sgt and 4 admin POs upstairs and that’s all you need. That includes the commanders secretary. That’s it, 4 POs a sgt and Lt can handle all of the admin for the district. Yet, some of these districts have 10 POs and two sgts assigned to the commanders office. GTFO. Dump out the dead weight of dollies hiding upstairs. And enough of the three or 4 DIOs. Two DIOs at most is all you needs. Two POs in the SDSC room per watch and that’s it. Some of these districts will have a sgt and 5 POs and the civilian in the room on days to hide people.

I do have the right to post that on this blog, otherwise it wouldn't have been published. If it's due to things out of your control like having to support a family member then my apologies. If you are some goof that cheated on his wife and had a kid in his 40s with some hood rat, desk dolly, or bar maid, then oh well. Don't cry on here and expect me to give a fuck

As a Lieutenant with over ten years as a Lt in district patrol. I can tell you the majority of us never expect to make it past our current rank. We are humbled and happy to be promoted if we are chosen to based on our abilities, experience, knowledge. To say that we would up and retire because we feel we reached a plateau is not correct in my opinion.

8/16/2020 10:47:00 AM

There are many other variables which must be taken into consideration when making a decision to retire, however, a career plateau can be a tipping point for some people.

22 to go 4 -500, sept,oct, nov, dec, I say 650 for the year?

650 no, try 800+. What you forgot to factor in to your prediction is
that the honor students are not going back to school in September.
The body count currently is ahead of the 2016 murderous pace which ended with
about 800 kilt. The honor students were in school and the pace
of killings slowed, but you still had an 800 body count. The violence
in the shitty has a direct correlation with the weather conditions and
how many targets are out and about. Violence always picks up in
June, starts to slow down in September and finally dies down in the
winter. My prediction 825.

There should be 65 Captains for the district Watch Commander like before. You can't have Lieutenants running a watch. A lot of watches we have lieutenants under cutting the assigned authority of the assigned W/C.

you’re Kinda wrong, we may have only had a few deputy chiefs (More than six but less than the existing) but we had a lot of ADS positions which are essentially the same rank just different name. We still have less exempt positions than we did 15-20 years ago.

The above post is not true, I got on in 1996 and there were less then 45 exempt spots for the entire police department and that is counting the 25 district commanders. I watched King Richie slowly create more exempt spots over the years to reward his political hacks and the number of exempts just kept growing. He created new names and new positions that were definitely not needed just so he good grow his political army. The above post is correct about the city changing the names of the exempt positions, but we sure do have many more exempts then we did 15 or 20 years ago, but we do have 3 fewer district commanders, but many more made up units with commanders. So yes we are way to top heavy, which is exhausting our pensions at a much faster rate because of the gold braid pension boost.

Lol. The Captains had to wait before the Superintendent figured out their rank was useless before they could figure it out themselves. Why retire? It's not like he was going to make them direct traffic. Though if you are maxed out and are 55 you are a greedy loser that should have retired anyway.

Let’s face it, we all know the important part the x/os have in the running of this department.
The department has struggled for years without them. We just didn’t realize it until now and besides where were all those merits supposed to go anyway?

8/17/2020 08:26:00 AM

Probably lots of people eligible to retire now. If there is little chance of career advancement, why stick around if career advancement is important to you?

It is not like there is a huge market for ex Chicago PD exempts, given the horrible rep the department has across most of the country, but a LT or CPT who managed to avoid bad publicity could probably find a similar position elsewhere.

Great job , the Captain rank is useless and so are most Lt's for that matter. When the looting started last week all we heard on the radio was a couple of Sgt's and that was it for a long time ! Too many white shirts taking care of each other and it is a waste of taxpayer money and not helping the pension situation. If they really want to save even more money get rid of all these fire bosses. Did you ever see how many white shirts show up on some of the simplest calls . I've seen more show up on an accident scene than they probably had at the Great Chicago Fire !

Wow what a revelation, the department survived without the rank of captain for years until a clown decided to help his political cronies and golf buddies. And suddenly it’s realized captains aren’t needed.!! Or could the real reason be;

“Former Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy told WGN he was shocked by the lack of diversity in the latest captains class selections. McCarthy expressed support for Brown. “ 15 captains included, I black, 1 Hispanic and 13 white.
Hahaha there’s always an underlying reason.

But really, was McCarthy “shocked” . Come on now, who believes that statement .

You are giving me 2000 statistics, when I got on there was only 7 Captains in the entire city. Those were the 7 sell out captains that signed away the civil servant status to the city for a measly $25,000.00 pay out. Then King Richie went on his power spree and brought back the Captain position with out having a test, he turned the entire position into a merit clout position. There were 5 area commanders and 6 ADS, and 25 District commanders. 5 chiefs of the Area, 1 chief of patrol, 1 chief of Admin. The units only had LT's as commanding officers which gave them a little boost in pay, but did not give them a gold braid pension. I may be wrong by 5 or six, but there was definitely not as many gold braid positions back in 1996 as there is now. If any thing you above post explains when the abusive politics actually got wings and started creating gold braid spots for the political class.
